First Impressions: Fukigen na Mononokean

Plot: Ashiya was once a typical young man starting out his journey of high school. While he was excited for the chance to enjoy it without incident Ashiya has a run in with a youkai for some reason has decided to possess him for several long days. Just when Ashiya is at his breaking point, he discovers a flier that gives him new hope and new insights. From this chance encounter leads him to a small tea room called the "Mononokean" where he become antiquated with the owner who makes a living guiding youkai that happen to wander into the living world to go to the underworld.

Reaction: The Morose Mononokean seems to be one of those shows where you can just sit back and enjoy it. The characters are likeable and make the show interesting to watch. While the outcome is fairly predictable there is still that element of wonder about how exactly each problem will be addressed. The comedy aspect of the show also added to the positive viewing experience.

Enjoyment: The first episode of this show maintained my interest throughout. For a grade I'd give this episode a 7 out of 10. Fukigen na Mononokean defintely has potential to be a wonderful series. The bright colors and designs are appealing. The down to earth feeling of the show makes this anime more cute compared to other series dealing with similar subject matter. Fukigen na Mononokean has the elements that would keep most fans entertained through the 13 episodes that comprise it's length. I'd recommend this series to those who enjoy anime series With comedy, supernatural themes and eye catching artwork.

Manga Impressions: Mad Love Chase

Plot: The story follows the prince of the demon world, Kaito after he runs away from home to escape a marriage he wanted no part of. In the human world he goes by the name Kujou Yamato and constantly runs into situations that puts his secret identity at risk.  Kaito's father the current king immediately sends a trio of demons after his son to secure him and return the young man back to their kingdom. As time moves forward more and more obstacles come our main characters direction. The question is will his luck hold out or will he eventually be discovered?

Reaction: "Mad Love Chase" is an adult oriented comedy series that has some good things going for it. The story isn't very deep but there are enjoyable comedic moments. The biggest plus for this series so far are the characters involved. Many of them have weird quirks and it's easy to fall for them. My one real complaint with the storyline so far is that they jumped from the arrival into the human world immediately into a school setting where everyone was already settled. I would have liked to see that transition slowed down or explained further. (That may be a possibility in future volumes.) Other than that I enjoyed the flow of this first volume. Although the comedy is a little weak at times the progression kept me wondering what the minions would try next. In addition the artwork is rather pleasant to look at and doesn't pose a distraction from the dialogue.  

Enjoyment: This first volume of "Mad Love Chase" maintained my interest throughout. For a grade I'd give this volume an 8 out of 10. "Mad Love Chase" has an interesting story, extremely likeable characters, and beautiful artwork. I would recommend this series to anyone who is looking for a comedy storyline with splashes of handsome characters. Like most Tokyopop series I've come across this series is a hidden gem that deserves more attention.
