no for real!!! i know jenna ortega personally hated the romance and wanted less of it, buuut it feels so true to the character of Wednesday. she was never disinterested in romance, she just wasn't going to conform to standard american values. even the Addams family itself, without any romance, goes against what americans are traditionally taught; multiple generations of her family live in one house and they are very loving and supportive in contrast to other family dramedies that were airing at the time
tyler is the perfect love interest!! he's a murderous psycho who also has been loving and supportive towards her. why WOULDN'T she be interested in him? her father is canonically an acquitted murderer, just sjhdfgshdf
Wednesday canonically tries to rage bait Tyler in prison because he reminds her how she she used to feel, lights up & says “I haven’t been this invested in a mother son relationship since Psycho” watching Tyler & Francois’ melodrama play out, is obsessed with serial killers, says “I enjoyed that” after being buried alive, writes self insert murder mystery stories because being involved in that stuff gives her life, & is generally enthralled by violence & mayhem. Jenna Ortega can say whatever she wants I’m sorry but Wednesday is down BAD for her nemesis (which is 100% in character for her) & in denial about her feelings (also in character) & I REALLY hope we get something fun with them next season 👀
You’re so absolutely right that Wednesday would never go for a typical romance. That’s why I *liked* Tyler with her last season but once the reveal that he’s a Hyde was out I decided I LOVED them together.
Also as others have pointed out - Tyler’s family honestly out freaked even the Addams this season. I don’t think there’s a better match for our girl 🖤
I can so see Wednesday & Tyler fondly reminiscing on their days as mortal enemies trying to kill each other years down the line. Is there anything more Addams family than that?
