Thinking about how destiny is pulling Wednesday and Tyler towards each other

(if you haven't read this post, read it first bc this is kind of a continuation of that but I felt like it needed to be a whole post)

So you guys remember when the creatives said that Wednesday feels like she was destined to fall for a guy like Tyler because of his monstrous side?

Well I've been thinking about how destiny is actually interfering in their lives to bring them back together.

Ok so end of s1 the only thing left open ended is the stalker mystery but it turns out to be Agnes. So there is absolutely nothing that is open between Wednesday and Tyler and they probably wouldn't have ever met again.

We even know that despite applying for approval to see Tyler (and she must've really wanted to see him bc that was a THICK book of forms she needed to fill) and getting it, she still hadn't gone to see him for weeks.

Now there is basically no chance for them to meet again.

But destiny tries to get them back with Donovan asking for Wednesday's help with the one eyed birds.

But this isn't enough because she just rejects him.

Enid's death's vision doesn't lead her back to Tyler. It's not enough either

Judi stalking her doesn't lead her back to Tyler because at first she just assumes it was Agnes who'd been doing it. This wasn't enough either.

BUT then it all connects.

Donovan is now dead. He was killed by the one-eyed birds he'd been investigating. Wednesday assumes the person stalking her is after Enid, and she saw the one-eyed birds in both her vision and on the second stalker's shoulder. So this all leads her to believe that Tyler could help her by giving her some info.

But

yeah you guessed it...still not enough.

Because Wednesday refuses to engage with Tyler's flirtation and Tyler refuses to indulge her by giving her info. It all just ends with her walking out and him screaming.

So destiny steps in again. When Wednesday decides that she'll just solve Donovan's case herself destiny delivers her a school trip to the Galpin cabin.

But here she gets a choice. The Lois victims research is there for her to find, sure, but it's behind Tyler and Donovan's photos, and the lights are off.

It is Wednesday who pauses when she sees Tyler's picture. It's her accepting what destiny has been giving her when she walks forward and starts looking at the other photos. That's when she finds the Lois victims research, something that leads her back to Tyler.

But she won't admit that it's connected to Tyler. It really stood out to me how she kept talking about how the people behind Lois are going to come after Enid which makes no sense. Why would people who were kidnapping such dangerous outcasts care about a late blooming teen werewolf? Donovan was obviously doing the research because he thought that's what happened to Francoise and was worried would happen to Tyler.

And even when she finds out about her own aunt being confined in the same asylum and tortured there she still refuses to give Tyler the benefit of doubt. Even though she saw him being shocked herself and she's aware of the chemical experimentation too.

But even that isn't enough.

It's only when she's right in front of the victims that she finally admits aloud that Tyler ending up as a Lois victim was a real possibility.

So of course just finding out about Lois wasn't enough.

Plus she sent Uncle Fester to find info instead of going herself.

So destiny stepped in again, and she needed to break in to free him.

But even this wasn't enough.

She would've just taken her uncle and left if Thornhill hadn't already been there.

Another domino that was set up so perfectly.

Then Slurp breaks free and Thornhill is able to run away in the mayhem.

Then her stalker is revealed to be Fairburn's assistant Judi which is revealed while Fester is with Wednesday. And in self defense he uses electricity that means all the prisoners set lose.

Dominoes guys dominoes.

Perfectly set up dominoes.

Now Thornhill is able to free Tyler and she very conveniently has already seen Wednesday and mentions her presence to Tyler.

What's all this? Destiny

But here Tyler gets the choice.

If he wanted to, he could've just slipped away without anyone realizing. But no, he goes to Wednesday.

But STILL this isn't enough.

They both pause and hesitate, yes, but she still ends up in a pool of her own blood and he runs away while getting gunned down.

BUT we know he's gonna go back again dressed up a doctor. Whatever happens in that meet won't be enough because we know he's gonna end up in the sewers and she's gonna be laying a trap for him after leaving the hospital.

So then he'll enter Remembrance Day in disguise.

And finally everything is gonna be solved by the end of ep 5 when we get this scene

And we're finally gonna get the thing that'll be enough.

And the rest of the season is going to show what it is that has connected them so intrinsically.

the similarities between tyler galpin and peeta mellark: a mini-essay word jumble thing

i've seen one or two other people calling out the similarities between tyler galpin and peeta mellark and i've been wanting to write a little think piece on this for ages but am just now motivated enough to do so, lol. also, i am calling this a "mini-essay" but it's really going to be a massive word vomit post, sorry!

despite tyler and peeta living in two completely different words (jericho & the dystopian panem), the two character have more in common than what might meet the eye. both characters are not villains or "evil" at heart. instead, both characters are victims. both boys are victims of grooming and coercion, evolving into perpetrators against their will by the hands of their abusers. both tyler and peeta's character arcs will explore/explored the themes of identity theft, forbidden love, and permanent scars left by abuse.

i have said this time and time again (and will continue doing so forever tbh) that it is both incredibly concerning and unbelievable that the wednesday fandom tries to erase tyler's grooming and abuse. so many people have tried to label him as this one dimensional villain when that is so far from the case. this boy was 16 at the start of season 1. laurel gates was already in jericho for a year and a half when wednesday enrolls at nevermore. it is, in my opinion, an incredibly bad take to just label tyler as such in order to justify not liking him and wednesday as a ship or using his abuse to uplift another ship.

both peeta and tyler are manipulated into committing acts of violence by forces that know exactly how to exploit their weaknesses. for peeta, his weakness is his love for katniss and his moral compass. for tyler, his weakness manifests in the grief he holds for his mother and his disdain for donovan, craving a father-son relationship that he never had.

in mockingjay — part 1, the capitol kidnaps peeta and hijacks his mind. using both psychological and physical torture on him, the capitol rewrites peeta's memories, replacing his love for katniss with feelings of fear and aggression. this reprogramming ultimately leads to peeta's attack on katniss once he is rescued.

tyler's story mirrors peeta's manipulation. during season 1 of wednesday, laurel feeds off of tyler's grief for his mother. she feeds off of his isolation and awakens the hyde in him. as she utilizes his grief, laurel becomes tyler's master, bending and twisting tyler's emotions until he becomes her weapon. despite wednesday and the hunger games occurring within two different settings, both tyler and peeta are stripped of their agency and remade into something dangerous— serving as proof that victimhood can be masked behind a mask of violence.

the grooming that both characters experience transforms them into perpetrators, making them go against the people they loved the most. after his rescue, peeta's aggression and hostility towards katniss is instant. the capitol's reprogramming turns katniss, the center and core of peeta's affection, into a source of threat and danger. peeta's anger and fear leads him into attacking her, displaying a scene that is not only brutal, but devastating as it turns love into betrayal.

tyler's double life as a regular barista/the hyde is tragic in a similar sense. his connection with wednesday is genuine and filled with real emotion. while wednesday did not know tyler's true identity, she fell in love with a normie teenage boy who worked part-time at a coffee shop to earn minimum wage. in season 2, tyler claims that wednesday sensed the monster within him and fell in love with it. i claim, however, that wednesday did not fall in love with a monster. instead, wednesday fell in love with a regular boy who was turned into one against his will. in both wednesday and the hunger games, abuse weaponizes intimacy and twists it into something heartbreaking and harmful.

peeta's and tyler's love stories are both heavily scarred by manipulation. for peeta, the question of what is real and what isn't becomes his way of coping. when he asks katniss if she loves him, her response becomes the thread in which ties him back to his true self. the repeated line, "real or not real," displays peeta attempting to rebuild trust despite him living in the ruins of his own mind.

tyler's feelings are quieter, but equally entangled. his flirtation and attraction to wednesday seems honest, but his actions while under laurel's control are not. tyler's duality —sweetness in one moment, danger in another— illustrates how trauma can affect a person's ability to love safely. in both character's stories, tyler and peeta are forced to hurt the ones they love. both wednesday and katniss provide tyler and peeta with a safe place and a sense of hope. their tragedies are born from a place of manipulation rather than malice.

additionally, both characters face an identity crisis. peeta spends most of mockingjay questioning between fiction and nonfiction, and his confusion is not just about memory but also his selfhood. who even is peeta if his feelings can be overwritten? tyler's identity is similar in the sense that he is split between being a "normal" boy and the hyde lurking beneath. tyler's story ends not with resolution, but instead a signal of hope and a question of what is to come. at this point, tyler is still caught in between the boy he once was and what he has been forced to become. both character arcs highlight a painful truth. recovery from manipulation is not immediate nor linear. it is a slow process of reclaiming the pieces of a stolen self. there is no "perfect" victim and we, as a fandom, need to stop insinuating that there is one.

tyler's first step to self-reclamation is the moment her murders his abuser, laurel. while we, the viewers, do not know what is to come in the second part of season 2, i can hypothesize that it will be a journey of tyler learning to take back his agency and reform his previous relationships, especially with wednesday.

peeta mellark and tyler galpin are not simply characters that turn violent. both characters are portraits of what happens to someone when their minds and emotions are hijacked by people in a position of power. their stories narrate how trauma can twist love into harm, how grooming can turn victims into unwilling perpetrators, and how the recovery process is the beginning to a battle of regaining one's identity.

Tyler ≠ Agnes. Agency Matters.

People keep throwing Tyler and Agnes into the same box, comparing them or even saying that Agnes is better by far, and honestly? That comparison falls apart the second you look closer. The difference couldn’t be bigger:

Tyler: zero choice. Not physically, not mentally. The Hyde–Master bond stripped him of every ounce of autonomy.

Agnes: everything she did was her own free will. She acted because she wanted to, because she was obsessed.

And please don’t come at me with: “bUt ShE diDn’T AcTuaAllY wAnT eNiD aNd bRuNo tO dIe, sHe jUsT tRuStEd wEdNeSdAy.” That doesn’t change the fact that they were in actual, very real life danger. That “trust” didn’t make it any less deadly.

Why Tyler doesn’t belong in the same conversation

I already wrote a whole post about this (“The Hyde–Master Bond: Why Tyler Never Had a Choice”) where I go into the mechanics of the bond, how it hijacks body and mind alike, and why he had no agency. I won’t rewrite all of that here — but the bottom line is simple: Tyler was not Laurel’s “partner.” He was her victim.

That’s the fundamental difference: Agnes had freedom. Tyler was shackled. Full stop.

Why this matters for Wednesday as a story

This isn’t just nitpicking details about characters — it’s central to what Wednesday is doing thematically:

Moral complexity: Wednesday tends to see things in black and white. Villain = guilty. Victim = innocent. Tyler blows that up. He’s both at once — perpetrator and victim. That forces Wednesday (and us) into a much harder moral space.

Agency as the core question: The show asks us to pay attention to who actually had power and choice. Agnes did. Tyler didn’t. And that difference is the whole point.

Wednesday’s growth: Her arc isn’t just about hunting monsters; it’s about learning that justice isn’t always about punishing the one who “did the thing.” Sometimes it’s about seeing the power structures behind it — the coercion, the grooming, the exploitation.

And yet — the fandom reaction is the opposite

Here’s the part that blows my mind: the fandom (and even Wednesday herself, in a way) is so much harsher on Tyler than on Agnes.

Agnes gets accepted, sometimes even liked.

Tyler? Hated. Vilified. Written off as if he had chosen every single thing he did.

How does that make sense? Agnes was a free agent putting lives in danger for her obsession. Tyler was literally enslaved by a supernatural bond and manipulated into believing he wanted what his abuser wanted. Yet somehow he’s the one people can’t forgive? That’s not just unfair — it’s twisted.

Wednesday’s side of it

Now, with Wednesday herself it gets a little more complicated. She doesn’t “accept” Tyler the way she does Agnes, and that has everything to do with her feelings.

She doesn’t feel anything for Agnes. To her, Agnes is an amateur villain who tried, failed, and proved herself pathetic in the process. That’s easy for Wednesday to box away and dismiss.

But Tyler? Tyler is different. He got under her skin. She let him in. And that betrayal cut so deep because her feelings for him were real. That pain lingers, and it clouds her ability to separate Tyler from the Hyde, or from Laurel’s manipulation.

And ironically, the fact that she can’t dismiss him so easily — that she can’t just write him off like Agnes — is itself proof that her feelings were real and still are. If he hadn’t mattered to her, she wouldn’t still be carrying that wound.

In short:

Agnes = chose freely, still gets sympathy. Tyler = had no choice, gets nothing but hate.

Wednesday dismisses Agnes because she feels nothing for her. But she can’t dismiss Tyler, because her emotions did exist (and still do). And that contradiction — fandom loving Agnes while damning Tyler, Wednesday brushing off one and bleeding over the other — just shows how much bias and double standards shape the way we talk about these characters.

The Hyde-Master Bond: Why Tyler Never Had a Choice

I see it so often on here: people calling Tyler “evil,” “a monster,” or saying that he chose to side with Laurel. And honestly? That take misses the entire point of what the show actually told us.

The Hyde-Master bond is not just about obedience. It’s not like Laurel gave an order and Tyler had to grit his teeth and do it. No — the bond goes deeper. It hijacks the Hyde completely: body, mind, and will. It forces compliance and then manipulates the Hyde into believing it wants the same thing as its Master. That’s what makes it so horrifying. It erases agency. It’s not “servitude,” it’s slavery on every level.

And let me be clear: Tyler was not just “influenced” by Laurel — he was her victim. And don’t you dare argue with me on that. They had to make Laurel actually say out loud that she groomed him. I think that alone says enough about the cold shoulder some people turn on him. Ignoring that is a deliberate refusal to see the truth.

Tyler had no choice. None. Not physically, not mentally. He wasn’t just trapped — he was shackled. Bound in a way that stripped him of autonomy and made him carry out horrors that weren’t his own.

And yet, antis still insist he “went along with it.” They say he was complicit, as if he had the freedom to choose. Do you realize how cruel that is? Blaming Tyler is like blaming a prisoner for the crime their captor forced them to commit (Just 10 times worse). He was caged inside his own body, watching himself hurt people he cared about, unable to stop it. That’s the horror of the Hyde. That’s the tragedy of his character.

Hunter Doohan shows this brilliantly in his performance. Watch the small moments — the way his eyes flicker before he shifts, the cracks in his voice, the almost imperceptible hesitation before the Hyde takes over. That’s not the look of someone enjoying what they’re doing. That’s someone drowning in it, screaming behind glass.

So no, Tyler is not the villain of Wednesday. He never was. He’s a victim — of Laurel, of the bond, of circumstances he couldn’t escape. He doesn’t need “redemption” because he was never truly guilty in the first place. And that’s exactly why his story is so heartbreaking.

“But he smiled when attacking!” Trauma victims smile in inappropriate contexts all the time. Hunter plays Tyler’s Hyde smile as manic, hollow — not joy, but a fracture in sanity. That’s not happiness, that’s survival under control.

“But he tricked Wednesday!” Yes, under Laurel’s manipulation. That’s literally how grooming works — it teaches the victim to play roles, to say the right things, to keep the Master’s plan moving. Don’t confuse survival strategies with free will.

“But he is the Hyde, that’s who he really is!” No. Tyler ≠ the Hyde. The Hyde is a monstrous part weaponized by Laurel. Tyler is the boy who was exploited to unleash it. Holding him responsible for what Laurel made him do is victim-blaming, full stop.

“So then everything he felt for Wednesday in season one was fake?” Absolutely not. That is in every sense wrong. His bond to Laurel didn’t erase his own emotions. If it had, season 2 part 1 wouldn’t exist the way it does. Look at how he behaves: his care for Wednesday bleeds through even when he’s broken. His feelings were real — and that’s exactly what makes his tragedy so raw.

Tyler wasn’t a monster pretending to be a boy. He was a boy forced into a monster’s skin. And if you can’t see the difference, that says a lot more about you than it does about him.

4 Reasons Why This Photo Makes Me Insane

As promised in my S2 Part 2 theories post from a few days ago, here’s a post where I yell about all the reasons why this S2P2 still that got released makes me absolutely FERAL!!!

1. The Lighting

In a TUDUM article that came out before S1 dropped that gave details about all the major players in Wednesday, Tyler’s section called Wednesday his “light” in the darkness that was his life. S2 sees Tyler at the darkest he’s ever been, and we’ve been warned that at least at the beginning of Part 2, we will be seeing Tyler in probably the DARKEST of dark places. But then in this still, we have BRIGHT WHITE LIGHT just BEAMING down onto Wednesday as she looks into Tyler’s Hyde’s face, proving that she STILL is his light and will undoubtedly be the only person who can reach him and pull him out of this darkness.

2. The Blocking

The most obvious thing to note about the blocking of this scene is that it’s a direct parallel to the end of episode 4 where Tyler and Wednesday come face-to-face in the Willow Hill hallway just after he kills Laurel. But where we saw that confrontation end in injury and chaos, we will (hopefully) see this one end in peace as Wednesday has either (presumably) became Tyler’s master OR injected him with something to help him gain control of himself back.

But the LESS obvious and far MORE curious parallel is that this scene is blocked similarly to certain other Weyler scenes that I’m sure we’re all very familiar with…

In both of these instances, Wednesday and Tyler were on the precipice of taking their relationship to the next level, so it’s VERY interesting to me that the blocking in this new still with Wednesday and Hyde!Tyler are soooo similar, even down to…

3. Wednesday’s Facial Expression

Even though I know we don’t see her whole facial expression clearly from the still and that the lighting is a wee bit harsh, which does distort some things, I feel like it’s not really a stretch to say that these look nearly identical when you put them side by side.

Even WITH the harsh blue lighting, it looks like her eyes are shining similarly to how they were when she was about to kiss Tyler, full of vulnerability and emotion. Hell, nearly EVERYTHING about her expression looks just about the same, except her head’s tilted at a steeper angle because, well, Hyde is much taller than Tyler.

Am I suggesting that she’s about to kiss the Hyde? No (although it’s not an outlandish thing for an Addams to do). But I AM suggesting that this moment is very similar to their kiss. It’s reading like a new, vulnerable step in their relationship that Wednesday’s on the precipice of taking. Is it trusting Tyler not to hurt her again? Is it that she’s putting her pride aside to help the boy she fell for? Or is she fully committing herself to him there and now as his master, one that won’t hurt and manipulate him, one that actually cares for him?

4. The Potential Symbolism

If this scene IS Wednesday stepping into the role of Tyler’s master as a way to save his life, the SYMBOLISM in this scene goes CRAZY. This girl is standing face to face with the boy we know she cares for, in what appears in the trailer to be an abandoned church, in front of all her friends (who we know are there if this is in fact the end result of the scene where they’ve got Tyler surrounded and Wednesday’s about to inject him with something), and is SUPERNATURALLY SWEARING HERSELF TO HIM!! If that is actually what’s happening here, we’re basically witnessing a Weyler marriage.

Like holy foreshadowing, Batman! If that’s what’s going on, Tyler Addams is practically a given.

Wednesday S2 Part 2 Theories

ALRIGHT, were a lot of my Part 1 theories wrong? Yes! Is that stopping me from theorizing about Part 2? NO! Read on for quick theories revolving around Tyler and Weyler and obviously, s2 spoilers below the cut.

1. Tyler Is NOT the Villain

I’m seeing a number of weylers panicking about them going with a full villain arc for Tyler and Wednesday killing him, but I am here to say they are almost definitely Red Herring-ing the FUCK out of Tyler in that trailer.

Isaac accidentally spoiled that he had a direct connection with the main villain of the season and that the villain used a lot of prosthetics that slowly get stripped away as the season progresses, and the person that lines up with that exactly is Slurp. And you know who was BARELY in the trailer? Slurp! Much like how Tyler was BARELY in the trailer for Wednesday S1 when he was the “villain.”

We know Tyler’s going to be seriously struggling against his Hyde, and I’m not ruling out him doing anything red flag-y while he’s going insane, but he is NOT the main fight this season. Which leads me to…

2. Tyler’s Plot Gets Resolved Quickly

An article I saw probably two months ago now included miscellaneous stills from the season, and one was for Day of the Dead/Remembrance Day that stated it was from 205. As a result, the bits we’ve seen of Tyler in a cape like Nevermore students for this celebration is definitely from episode 5.

I also suspect that the clip of Tyler in scrubs in the sewer is from the same episode, perhaps shortly after the events of episode 4. (I hope he’s in scrubs because he snuck into the hospital to visit Wednesday while she was in a coma, but I also acknowledge he could have stolen scrubs from a hospital because it was the first clothing items he could get his hands on after he transformed back into his human self.)

I also noticed that it seeeeems like Wednesday still has her “thrown out a three-story window” scars on her nose during the confrontation with Hyde in the trailer. That implies to me that this is happening not very long after she wakes up from her coma and gets out of the hospital, which I assume is perhaps middle or end of episode 5, and I don’t know that they’d care to keep applying scars to Wednesday’s face for the entire rest of the season. So I suspect perhaps Hyde confrontation at the end of episode 6? This would allow time for the show to really get into the meat of potatoes of who the TRUE big bad(s) are for the last two eps of the season, and provide an opportunity for Tyler to be helping Wednesday and the rest of the teens rather than hindering them.

3. Wednesday Is Tyler’s New Master FOR REAL?

Millar and Gough have said the resolution to Tyler’s arc this season is “surprising but inevitable,” and many people (mostly weylers) have been theorizing that she would be his master since S1 ended, so much so that Hunter and Jenna discussed the theory in the TUDUM video they did in 2023 and they both seemed to like the idea. Also, the cast read not one but TWO “Wednesday is Tyler’s new master” theories in a recent video for Vanity Fair (I believe), and Jenna very cryptically said that “it was a critical error that Wednesday didn’t have a pet monster in season 1 or season 2 part 1”…

While I am not completely ruling out that she’s injecting him with something that might tame the Hyde or give him control of himself, I DO think the scene parallels between Laurel injecting Tyler with something and Wednesday trying to inject Tyler with something are likely intentional.

The difference in intent, though, is BEAUTIFUL, because Laurel wanted to enslave and manipulate, while Wednesday (most likely) wants to help and heal. Laurel wanted the beast, but Wednesday wants the boy.

Plus, the still Netflix released of Hyde and Wednesday (presumably) post-confrontation SCREAMS “master and her Hyde.” (I have SO much to say about the insanity that is this photo, and I WILL be making a separate post to say it!!)

If she DOES become his master, I suspect this is a temporary fix for a long-term problem, because I feel like they both would want to figure out how Tyler can survive and be his own person without a master, but that can be a season 3 problem (and it would open up a number of delicious plot lines for them in the meantime!).

4.Enid’s Death Vision May Tie Back to Saving Tyler

I REALLY think that Wednesday’s vision of Enid’s death could actually be a warning that she needs to save Tyler from himself to prevent more harm befalling Enid and the rest of her loved ones. Enid in the vision is scratched up VERY MUCH like she was after her fight with Hyde at the end of S1, implying that perhaps this death IS Hyde-related.

With Tyler loose and losing his mind now that he’s masterless, that sort of harm befalling Enid and, honestly, anyone else, is more likely than ever. HOWEVER, if Wednesday saves him from this fate, then he is removed from the equation as a danger. The trouble may just be getting to him before he’s entirely lost to his Hyde side, hence the urgency in the trailer, emphasis on time, and “if you don’t hurry, you’ll have nothing left to save.”

Additionally, that white rose that Xavier painted and Wednesday saw in the vision?? White roses can symbolize new beginnings and loyalty, which would be exactly what Tyler and Wednesday would have if she saves him.
