Who does Magolor know?

(Before I get on with this theory, I’d like to say that lately I’ve been working a timeline of the Kirby series: these first few posts will not only be giving a theory, but also working into that. Enjoy!)

Minor spoilers for Kirby Triple Deluxe, Kirby Planet Robobot and Kirby’s Return to Dreamland ahead! During the events of Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, it’s made clear that Magolor knows about Kirby from somewhere, he even states it himself if you collect every Energy Sphere. however, he says he knows someone ELSE who knows Kirby, too:

I’ve seen many speculations on who this person might be, ranging from Marx to Galacta Knight and everyone in between, based off of another piece of information Magolor gives:

Here, it’s stated that Magolor both knows someone who knows Kirby well, and implies they’ve fought with him before. some, like Galacta, have a surprisingly good case, Galacta’s being he’s associated heavily with Magolor (the lor appearing in his attack in Robobot, being a secret boss in Return to Dreamland) however, one thing throws this and others off: he wouldn’t know Kirby well (also, he’s never canonically fought him).

So this means the person he knows would have to both have canonically fought with Kirby, be somewhat of a friend with him, and know Magolor. It would be an extremely hard feat to prove all of this, except for one minute detail in Triple Deluxe, this room in stage 4 of Wild World:

Here, there’s a portrait of Magolor on the left side of the wall. But there’s another on the right side: of either Taranza or Queen Sectonia pre-mirror corruption. While it may be an easter egg, when you think about it, it means Taranza and/or Sectonia would have to at least be acquainted with Magolor to have their portraits be in the same room.

Now, if we take everyone who has fought with Kirby over the years, Taranza seems to be the best fit for all three requirements, as he fought Kirby throughout the game, has this portrait, and is presumably friends with him now. This leads me to believe that Taranza is the one Magolor was referring to have known in Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, and that Kirby’s Return to Dreamland takes place some time after Kirby Triple Deluxe.

The reason why Acro has been found on both Popstar and Aqua Star is because Kirby's more fluent in Japanese writing, as evidenced by the Kanji stickers he collects in Planet Robobot and the Wagon Star in Air Ride. As such, he initially thought that the English word orca was actually an incorrect way of writing of acro (since tategaki is read top to bottom, right to left-Kirby assumed they forgot to write in columns), and the name has continued to be popular with Popstar's inhabitants ever since.

Is Adeleine actually the true, unsung hero of the Kirby universe?

I’ve realized something about Kirby 64. Adeleine can make her paintings become real, right? She can make enemies, food, 1-ups, and such other things. There’s something rather concerning about this, though. If she can really make anything, then she could technically be the most powerful Kirby character.

Think about it. What’s to prevent her from making a stick that kills Dark Matter on touch? She could make that, and then make a machine that turns Shiver Star back to normal. With her magic paintbrush/paint set, she could technically stop any threat in the universe quite easily

But she hasn’t done anything other than stop Kirby from eating his friends, as well as help him with his quest. Then again, she is a child, and could be rather oblivious to her true powers…

Or maybe she doesn’t give a single fuck. Either way works.

Magolor was indeed very selfish and his actions were unforgivable. However, how was Marx any better? He still betrayed Kirby and still wanted to take over Popstar. Even if it was to just to 'have fun' it's still no better than Magolor's motivations. I don't think Marx was going to invite Kirby and his friends to party once he took over Popstar. So they're both equally awful in my opinion.

Magolor was going to take over the universe. The universe. Not only a planet, or a galaxy. But the entire universe. I think one is just a little worse than the other.

I was doing some thinking on what the heck Magolor actually is. But I've recently compared some of his behaviors to a Scarfy's and..

What if Magolor's genetic makeup might actually have some Scarfy in there? He tends to cover up his mouth and head, which probably hide some traits of Scarfies. Due to what Scarfies do when eating (the one episode of the anime where they literally eat as much as Kirby), he probably eats in private and maybe he doesn't eat in public in order to prevent anyone seeing his eating habits. He also floats off the ground a little, and has an overall circular shape for his lower area. He probably also covers up the ears since Kirby might know what Scarfies look like by now and doesn't want anyone to notice his Scarfy traits? And the Scarfy traits (ie the ears and normal mouth) probably go away at some points of his battle?

Interesting! I don't think Magolor is actually a scarfy, but his species could be related to scarfies. While Magolor does have a lot of traits similar with scarfies, there are enough differences between that he's almost certainly not a scarfy.

((I found this scene from the Kirby anime to be a bit humorous.

You’d think Meta Knight, the greatest Star Warrior in the galaxy, wouldn’t need assistance in order to catch up to Kirby, despite how the puffball is riding on the Warp Star.

Can’t he just fly using his wings, or is that a feature which is solely exclusive to the game verse?))

((If I had to hazard a guess, it’s possibly because the anime seems loosely based on Kirby’s Adventure more than anything else, and as it was Meta Knight’s introduction game he didn’t yet have wings! But that’s not a terribly good answer in itself. They may also have just not wanted to make him too detailed and thus steal attention too much from Kirby…?))

Okay so I JUST realized I forgot to tell you guys I’ll be gone for a while starting relatively soon.

I’m going camping with Boy Scouts starting this Sunday and ending next saturday, and I most likely won’t have signal there. Headcanon: The people of the sky made both of the legendary air ride machines. The Hydra is fairly self explanatory-it's based off of a rhinoceros beetle, which they would have seen quite a few similar creatures. The Hydra likely would have been used in battle by them, given it's stats. The Dragoon, meanwhile, is likely their rendition of Dyna Blade. The reason why I think they made that machine is simply because they seem like the only people to really be that artistic.

I would have to look at comparisons, but that seems plausible.

That's a great addition to my Magolor head-cannon! In addition, this also has some interesting implications when you take into account his actions in his next two appearances, namely building theme parks. Seems like ol' Mags here still has paradise on the brain. Although, this does bring up the rather hilarious image of Magolor's personal paradise being full of amusement parks...

Again, you make a very good point. The fact he built an amusement park of all things gives more credit to the idea he wanted a paradise. I doubt he would just build a world of amusement parks, though. He would probably add some other kinds of tourist-attraction type places, like nature reserves, water parks, museums, etc.

Here's my head-cannon on the reason why Magolor wanted the Master Crown. Since Halcandra is fairly inhospitable even at the best of times, what with most of the land that is not actively volcanic being a giant factory, Life there was very harsh. Magolor figured that by using the Master Crown, he could transform Halcandra into a paradise, much like a certain planet that he had seen glimpses of. He later became sidetracked with universal control, but his main goal was always Halcandra.

The more I think about it, the more that makes sense. We know the Master Crown corrupted him, probably even before he got his hands on it, so it's possible that was his original objective.But what if the two goals were mixed? He wanted to make Halcandra a paradise: his paradise. Then he decided to take the rest of the universe for his own along with Halcandra, because the Master Crown was just that strong.

Do you have any headcanons for the Great War from the Kirby anime? Perhaps who the original demon beast that rebelled was?

I probably would if I actually remembered anything from the anime. I'll probably rewatch it this summer, though, so you can expect me to understand anime-related stuff eventually.

Personal headcanon blah: Planet Robobot takes place between Kirby's Dreamland 2 and 3 due to Dark Matter Blade being a clone based off of Dark Matter's "incomplete" form and Star Dream having no clue what its true form may be. Also, DM's introductory cutscene is titled "The Dark Rainbow Thief."

It's possible, although I do believe Dark Matter's true form is also in Dreamland 2. Although, that does give me the idea of making a potential timeline of Kirby games.
