Artist book I made with handmade paper. The paper is made with cooked and shredded paper bags, and had coffee ground in it along with hardwood chips. The binding is Japanese stab with hemp thread. 

The stick is dipped in ink, to represent a pen.

This book was made for a time class, it was meant to be a journal for a detective squirrel. I personally LOVE making paper and artist books and is what I plan to major in (besides architecture) :)

“Each page of this hand-bound book has a square cut out of the center, rotated 1 degree from the previous page. The holes form a twisting tunnel through the book, with the front and back covers at right angles. The binding lets it bend and twist into various sculptural forms. Laser-cut Bristol paper pages. Coptic bound with 1/8 inch laser-cut Baltic Birch plywood covers and waxed linen thread.”

One of two works commissioned by Robert Bolick, curator of Books on Books.

The Metamorphoses is Ovid’s epic poem about “bodies which have been transformed into shapes of different kinds.” With motifs of violence, punishment, reward, pathos, and lost speech dwelling within this classic tale, Ovid writes about human feelings in the face of the awful and the tender, the terrifying and beautiful, the violent and loving.

Jacqueline Rush Lee has worked experimentally with the book form for over seventeen years. You can check out her tumblr here.
