OOC under the cut
Shows you a cool as fuck library in your dreams where you can see everyone you’ve ever loved’s book of life up until now.
(I dunno, just a cool concept I thought of. I’d only give physical descriptions if you wanna look at them)
*His dreams weren't usually this pleasant. There wasn't any death or battlefields here. In his bed, he lied a little more comfortable at the mental image, soothed at the peacefulness of it. His dream self walked along the shelves, wondering what there was to read here.*
- The War Profiteer
Shelves upon shelves of the books. Names written on the spines in various fonts. Cursive, Arial, comic sans, children’s crayon, etcetera.
*He squinted to focus on the writing, and read it. He brushed his hand down the spine of the crayon-drawn book. Was this something is children made? He didn’t remember it. That’s no good if it was. He should remember everything they made. He took it off the shelf to examine.*
It was titled “Carpophorus”. A paperback book stained with paint, every other page is bookmarked with a sticker.
It says “volume 20”
*He supposed maybe Hermes and the boy had made an art book, but the title caught him off guard.*
“W-Whoa. Has he even made that many works?”
*He opened to a random page.*
It was detailing a day. It said “February 9th, 2026”
Almost like a storybook, it follows through the day with Carpophorus, from waking up to daycare, to going home and going to bed.
*His eyes widened as he read that. It wasn’t artwork at all.*
“W-What the Hell… S-Some sort of… record?”
*He looked up from the book to the shelves, realizing that all of these had to be daily records. He wanted to be paranoid as to who was watching his son like this, but something told him it was innocuous, like the documents of the universe or some god.*
“Oh, Carpophorus…”
*He closed the book to hug it to his chest.*
It was very different than the others by the same name, which were carefully bound, wrapped in blood stained leather. The other books were almost 800 pages long
*He looked up at the eerie looking covers. He kept Carpophorus’ against him and reached for the equally designed books, struggling to balance both.*
Volumes 1-19, all titled with the boy’s name. Volume 19 ended with the boy being cast out of the holy place he’d been created in. All of the other books were from his time as a cherub
“Oh…”
*Kilroy felt a tang of guilt in his heart, knowing that someday, he’d have to tell the boy about where he came from… and the story of how he once thought he could never care for a child, and gave him to Hermes’ guardianship. Of course, it all worked out with them reunited, but it was a regret he held for himself.*
“Would it be wrong to know about the cherub you were? It’s not the mortal boy you are now… Or maybe it is. I can’t say what you were like the first time as a child. Gosh… How cruel of me. I’m so sorry.”
*He spoke to himself. In real life, Kilroy mumbled sleep-talking into his pillow.*
The books were alongside Sam’s. There were about 10, black cloth covers, sprayed golden paper edges with green ribbon bookmarks. His name written in a neat, legible cursive
“Yeesh, yeah, Sam’s life is enough to span all humankind… Too much for a single man to comprehend. I hope he tells me more of his stories, sometime.”
*He kissed the tips of his fingers and pressed it to the most recent of Sam’s books.*
The book was a comfortable cool temperature, as if the book had been left on the shelf a while. Sam’s current book was about halfway filled, though there was no indication his story was going to stop anytime soon, or at all.
The most recent two pages spoke a bit about Kilroy and Hermes, how they each had met Sam, and the way either of them acted and talked around eachother.
*He couldn’t help but be amazed by the fact that they were all but just two pages in his ten volumes. But he was honored to be there at all, and was very happy that Sam wasn’t in any danger of ceasing to exist.*
“I wonder where Hermes’ book is.”
His is further down. A hardcover, green crushed velvet front, with the occasional bald spot on the book. His name was printed with the neatness and precision of an elementary school teacher’s handwriting, and It had deckled edges with a silver ribbon bookmark

*rips one of his fangs out with pliers and runs off*
Let's out a blood curdling glass shattering (litterly) scream holding his mouth sobbing
“Holy shit— Emiel?!”
“EMMY!”
Irving and Dexter run in, Dexter immediately coming over to comfort the boy as Irving gets a first aid kit
“Emmy, buddy? What’s wrong?! What happened? Is something wrong with your— oh. Irving! Grab a cup or bowl, too!”
They do, and Dexter holds the cup under Emiel’s mouth
“Okay— okay. Spit, go ahead.”
Dark red goop like old clotted blood comes out when he spits into the cup
The took my tooth Doare
“Oh- okay- um…”
“Do you want me to find ‘em in their sleep and give them nightmares?”
Dexter grimaced
“okay, spit again. We’re gonna wait for the blood to clot…. Let me find some gauze… have you ever lost a fang before?”
Spits in the cup the same goop comes out
No they grew in
“Yeah, but are these your first teeth? I promise the question is important.”
Irving hands over a water bottle, which Dexter cracks to give to Emiel
“Swish it around and spit. I know blood is tasty to you but when it’s your own it’s not as good.”
These are my first fangs
Swishes the water around in his mouth spitting it out
Blah
“Attaboy! Good spit!”
Irving comes over with one of Emiel’s toys, holding it out to the boy
“So it’ll probably grow back. That’s good, at least.”
Dexter nods.
“Yeah. I know that doesn’t stop the pain, but it’s not gone forever!”
He offers a smile, grabbing the gauze.
“Okay. Bite down on this where it’s bleeding. It’ll catch the blood and help it stop bleeding so much.”
How long till it comes back i miss it
Hugs the toy tight to his chest
“Well… it… could be a little while… Im not sure, I don’t know much about this…”
“If it doesn’t grow back, you can have one of mine, deal?”
Giggles
Thats silly
“Is it? Gosh, I wouldn’t know. Does that mean you don’t want it? What am I gonna do with my extra teeth…”
They pretend to think really hard
You keep them in your mouth silly
“Mmm, no. In my mouth? That sounds yucky! What would I do with teeth in my mouth? Eat them? Blegh.”

Want some moonshine
“No thanks.”
Unghhagahhhhhhhhh
*Kilroy was whistling ‘Yankee-Doodle’ through the hangar and knocked on Dexter and Irving’s bedroom door. There was some clattering, seemingly because he was fumbling with a very heavy box.*
- The War Profiteer
Come innnnn~!
Dexter opened the door with a flourish, Irving had their headphones on, but looked up, seeing the door open and grinning when Kilroy came in
“Hey papa!”
“Hello! Hello! Who here would like to help their dad get fireworks ready for tomorrow?!”
*He wobbled with the cardboard box of fireworks and sparklers in his arms.*
“I need an expert welder and a… pyro-technics-checker.”
*He made the roles seem grander than they potentially were.*
“Ooh!! I can do those!!!”
Dexter rushed to throw his shoes on, before grabbing the box out of Kilroy’s arms
“…What are fireworks.?”
Irving put on their slides, following out after them
“Wonderful- Ah, thank you, dear.”
*He fished in his back pocket for the Uncle Sam hat he squished in there and put it on Dexter’s head.*
“Oh! A firework, my dear, is something very special indeed.”
*He skipped over to Irving’s side, and put his hands on both their shoulders, walking the group towards the living room, where he’d set up a small work station.*
“A chemical powder concoction that when lit on fire, explodes into a bright, sparkling display! We put them in cardboard rockets that fly up into the air.”
“Pshhh I can blow things up whenever I want!”
He giggled a bit, breaking his moment of being aloof
“…That sounds pretty…”
*He raised a playful eyebrow at Dexter and leaned to whisper to Irving, seeing their excitement.*
“It surely is. I can’t wait to show you your first - on Fourth of July, of all days!”
*He patted their shoulders and caught up with Dexter, helping him put the box on the lower part of the table.*
“I’m making a whole show for the family! Courtesy of Mr. Lynns… I thought my two amazingly talented children would enjoy helping me attach the fireworks and sparklers to these model planes.”
“Wait what’s special about the 4th of July? Did I miss something?”
Irving nodded a bit at Kilroy
*He ran around the back of the table and pushed closer the welding equipment to Dexter, and setting up his metal planes, giving a kiss to the first one. He gasped and straightened up, excited.*
“It’s the day the United States declared independence from Great Britain! Well, around that date, but I digress… The founding of our nation! The signing of our Declaration!”
“Oh.! That’s cool… so we use pretty explosions?”
“Exxxactly.”
*He booped his nose.*
“‘And the rocket’s red glare! The bombs bursting in air! Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there!’”
*He bursted out singing, standing at attention, with his hand over his heart. He then gave a giddy salute and leaned against the table with his chin perched on his hand.*
“Irving, dear, would you like to take out the rockets and check the wicks for me? Then you can pass them to me and Dexter!”
Both children started to giggle excitedly at Kilroy’s antics
Irving grabbed the first rocket, checking the wick over and handing it over to Kilroy
*He took it graciously, sniffing down the length of it like a cigar, before opening the bomb-doors of his model plane and turning it over.*
“Perfect work, my dear! Just like that! No frayed parts or tangled cords. Then, Dexter, my other dear, can you weld this magnetic to the rockets and the planes?”
*He demonstrated himself, using the torch to zap the pieces in place, securing the rocket to the underside of the model.*
“Ta-da! Our first star-spangled show of red-white-and-blue patriotism!”
“Okay… and you’re sure they won’t blow up, right?”
He hesitated as Irving handed over the next rocket
“Oh, hm… Right. Good question.”
*He tapped his claw on his metal chin, before pumping his pointer-finger in the air.*
“I believe so! The casing on the rocket should keep us safe… Just keep it close to the surface. Or…”
*His giddiness also extended to his inventive mood. He dug in the work bench for metal rings.*
“Weld these ends to themselves instead of the rocket, and then weld the magnet. Bingo!”
“I’ll do that. Thanks dad.”
He got to work, welding the metal rings first and grinning at Kilroy
*He gave a beaming smile, feeling pride at that name. He knew he’d been called it a lot nowadays, but it still made him flutter, knowing how much it took Dexter to get there.*
“Of course. Beautiful form, dear.”
*He ruffled his hair and went back to opening the bomb doors and waiting for Irving’s fireworks.*
Irving handed over a few more fireworks
“You’re dropping them from the plane.?”
“Mmmhm! I’m thinking of some aerobatics. Throw them at the peaks of some loop-de-loops. Whatcha think?”
*He took them each and set them with the models, wheeling them to Dexter. The ones that he couldn’t get to quick enough, Kilroy started to weld.*
“Make sure not to look into the light, dear.”
*He mentioned, in case Irving didn’t know yet.*
“Ooh, can I join..?”
Irving gave a thumbs up, looking away from the two
“You want to fly? Hm… I suppose we could do that! Yeah!”
*He thought about how that would fit in the program, as flying around fireworks could be dangerous.*
“OH! Unless you want to help me fly the models!”
*He giggled, realizing his confusion.*
“I wanna do cool plane stuff like you! So whatever you’re doing.!”
“Perfect. Flying models is a whole different beast! I’d love to teach you. Ah! I’m so proud.”
*He jumped in place, anticipating the excitement.*
“Oh, everybody’s going to have so much fun!”
“Haha! Yeah!!!”
Dexter wraps his arms around Kilroy and squeezes
*He didn’t expect the hug. He blushed and hugged back, returning the squeeze. He rested his head on the boy’s shoulder.*
“Oh! My dear! I adore you.”
*He looked up and nodded for Irving to join.*
Irving let out a fake dramatic sign before joining the hug, adding onto the squeeze, though not nearly as strong as Dexter
*Kilroy was whistling ‘Yankee-Doodle’ through the hangar and knocked on Dexter and Irving’s bedroom door. There was some clattering, seemingly because he was fumbling with a very heavy box.*
