i noticed a chronic lack of hawks
The Bushtit (Psaltriparus minimus) looks like this:
The bird in the pic is a Goldcrest (Regulus regulus) or Teeny Lemoncap.
We see them sometimes in the garden.
They’re the smallest bird in Europe, and after nesting-season a new generation flitting about in the hedge can be mistaken for large bumblebees.
“Cute” is a very good word for that.
Also the hero (if that’s the word we’re looking for) of this brief tale.
