Percival laughed, “Yes, I am. But you must tell me where you’ve been.”
“Alright, alright.” The woman took another drink before explaining. “I’ve been in my father’s hometown, a few days North of Florence. Between you and me I absolutely hated it.”
“I am not drinking just to get drunk. I am actually doing some soul-searching. The answer I seek might be at the bottom of this bottle of wine, so I am simply drinking until I find it. You cannot blame a girl for trying, now can you?”
“No, you really can’t. Mind if I join you in your efforts? I won’t be doing any soul searching but wine sounds great.”
“Can’t a man drown his sorrows in peace?”
“Trust me when I say that you are unbelievably unwelcome and while I’d hate to disappoint,” he drew another drink from his glass. “My company’ gonna end up with a spilt bottle over ya head and your finger as a souvenir.”
Katya heard the man talking to the other, and unwillingly a groan escaped her lips. “You again.” She sat down a few seats away, all other seats were full or too close to the man for her liking.
It had been a quiet day in the forest when three hard knocks were heard against Katya’s door. She finished putting on her clothes, and started towards the entrance, opening it to see who it was. “Oh,” Katya began quietly. “I did not expect anyone here.”

“And every time I believe you will drown.” He shook his head. The longer she stayed with him the more she was adapting to the ways of the forest, and yet she wouldn’t do something as simple as get the useless layers of fabric off of her so that she didn’t drown. How foolish would it be if she had spent all these months surviving just to drown because of a skirt? It would be incredibly foolish, and he didn’t want to see that happen. Mostly because it would mean that he would be without someone for company and that might just push him into insanity.
“I am fine. It is you that is hiding something.” He looked at her carefully before pushing his way past her into the water. Theo didn’t bother to lie. After all, there would be no point. What he didn’t understand was how she could do so as simply as she had. When he came up for air, he was in the middle of the lake, floating lightly on his back.
“If something is wrong, I should know. Should I not? I can help.” He glanced back over at her, watching her with a curious expression.
“Theo, if I was able to swim my way to shore after a shipwreck in a dress twice as heavy as this, I’ll be fine.” she protested, one of her eyebrows lifting in the process. When he made his way past her, the woman crossed her arms as she turned around. This was the opposite of what she wanted to happen. It wasn’t technically an argument, he was undoubtedly upset with her a bit. Eyebrows shifting into a soft furrow, she waited for him to resurface the water before speaking again.
“If it is something as small and irrational as the thing that is bothering, I don’t want to bring it up and pester you with it. she protested as she moved back into the water. “I don’t want to ruin a good day or moment simply because of it.” Her hands made their way to to her hips, sitting there. Elisa looked around her with a sigh softly escaping her lips before her eyes met his curious ones. “I know you can help. Sorry I didn’t tell you.” Elisa hated being proved wrong, so the fact that she was admitting to this was a miracle to her.

Smiling was one of the key signs that someone was happy. And yet, there was still a nagging in the back of his mind that told him she was not fine. Perhaps he was looking at things incorrectly. After all, he had only been with the woman for a few months. How could he possibly know all the ways in which she showed her happiness or unhappiness. And women in themselves were confusing to him. He had missed that part of his life where he started to understand the opposite sex. Now he just knew what she told him. And apparently, she told him she was fine.
So he would believe her. After all, what good would lying do her? It was just the two of them in nature. Even if she did lie, there wasn’t much harm it could do. He knew more about the island, and anything she lied about with the world beyond didn’t matter because he was never going to see that again. Yet, he still found himself upset by the idea that she wasn’t telling him the whole truth. What was the point of gaining her trust if she was simply going to revert back into not trusting him.
As she ran into the water, he followed her, moving at a slightly slower pace but still stepping into the water. “Your dress will weigh you down. Be careful.” His lack of clothing was not just for comfort but because it made sense in the wild. It gave him mobility and the advantage in most terrains. He chose only to where bottoms, and most of the time they ended up ripped.
She considered it many times; wearing less clothes to better suit the environment. However she could never bring herself to do it. As much as she had changed since the wreck and adapted to life here, she still felt the need to keep herself covered while in the presence of others. Even if that other was a man that only wore bottoms most of the time. And most likely wouldn’t care if she did the same. At least now she wouldn’t keep wearing the heavy dress the first arrived in. Her skin would only be covered in a light dress with only two layers to it. “Don’t worry about me Theo, I’ve worn it in water with you many times before.”
“Are you alright, though? You seem uneasy.” She stated as she approached him, looking up at him when she reached him. At this point she didn’t think she had done anything to upset him. No stone was thrown at his head, no evident sight of wanting to be away from him, and she hadn’t said anything offensive. What could it be then. Elisa hoped it was just something small that could be brushed off. The dampened material of the outfit clung to her skin as she eyed him, waiting for a hopefully calm response that nothing was the matter. With him though, she would never really know. She felt that if she could lie to keep him at ease, he would probably do the same for her.
Water crashed against her body, cooling her down from the hot air. With birds singing their tunes and the soft breeze of the jungle flying past them, Elisa would easily fall asleep on the shore for an afternoon on any other day. It was a blessing the have Theo around, he was the one that showed her this beautiful land for what it really is.

Theo nodded as Elisa agreed that the waterfall was a good idea. In all his years on the island, it remained to be, by far, one of his favorite places. He wasn’t sure why. Perhaps it was the beauty of it. It lead into a small pool of water, deep enough to dive in or simply swim. The area was surrounded by large trees that hung into the water, leaving vines to swing on. Behind the waterfall was a rock cave, just big enough for a few people to sit comfortably away from the spraying water. He had spent more time there than anywhere else.
Or maybe it was the adventure that drew him to the area. The waterfall was at the very heart of the island, and if you ever lost your way, it was always easiest to find the waterfall and figure out where to go from there. It was like a homing beacon. It hadn’t taken long for him to figure out where he needed to go on the island. Even as a child he was good at navigating his way through the trees and around the paths.
Turning towards Elisa as they continued to walk, he frowned lightly, watching her carefully. It had taken a while, but he was getting better at picking up on the mood of the woman. He wasn’t used to the emotions of others, mostly capable of reading gorilla’s expressions and not humans. But he could tell that her smile didn’t quite reach her eyes. “Elisa….You are upset?”
“Me? No, no, I’m smiling and happy see. Nothing’s wrong,” the woman rambled as she usually did when she lied. Taking hold of one of his hands and squeezing it reassuringly, she gave a false smile as she continued. “I’m fine. I promise.” What was it. It hit her like a hard wave and she couldn’t shake it off as easily as she wanted. Was she forgetting something? Did she hurt herself? Was she sick? As they walked Elisa continued trying to unravel the source behind the uneasiness she felt. The only distraction from it appeared when they arrived at the waterfall.
The water glistened, drawing you into it, as the sun reflected off the surface. It was like a little piece of paradise, only known and experienced between her and Theo. The enticing scent of all the islands’ fruit and flowers seemed to be carried here, giving the place a distinct heavenly smell. They could spend hours here and never grow bored. And even if they did, they could just as easily sleep there. It wasn’t as if someone was going to stop them or wake them up. Without further waiting, she ran towards the water, letting go of his hand so she could hold up the skirt’s material that fell past her knees.
She was sprinting, more eager than a child going after a toy. The moment she felt the cool liquid crash against her she threw herself in, allowing herself to be immersed before looking back up to see what Theo was doing.

Percival chuckled at all her questions, handing her her drink when they came. “No, I am not married. I went into the army when I was of age and I’ve been here in the city since I got back. Nothing as interesting as a woman.
“Well, if you’re looking for that special lady, you’re lucky. I came just in time to help,” She joked before taking a sip of her drink.
