i canât help but imagine the first time you call harry âdaddyâ. it was probably on the couch of your shared apartment when you wanted to go out with him to get dinner, but he had to stay home to watch the packers play.
âlove, we can go out to dinner every other night but please let me watch this game.â he pleaded with you.
âbut i donât wanna go to dinner tomorrow or the next day, i wanna go out with you tonight!â you whined, wrapping your legs around him, straddling his waist.
â(y/n), iâm gonna watch the game bub.â he said, assuming that would be the final statement, expecting you to pout and rest your head against his neck.
âplease daddy?â
harry cocked his head to the side, giving you a surprised look.
âyou are so naughty.â
and then it just became routine, every time you wanted him, he just snapped and became under your spell.
In which Harry and (y/n) are the only sober ones at a bad party and are secretly in love even though Harry has a girlfriend.
Fluff, Slight Angst // 2.3k words
The room was lit up red. It was full of smoke and high people while mellow music played, and everybody sat around, staring blankly at the floor. It was Jeffâs party, and everybody was ready to go off until they got just a bit too high and a bit too sad.
Most of the people had gone (it wasnât a very exciting party now that everyone was on a sad high), it was nearing 5 A.M., and Jeff was calling his girlfriend asking him to come down to his house for a cuddle.
Harry, your crush since high school was sat across from you with his girlfriend, Camille. She was pretty and French and she had Harry wrapped around her finger â at least that was what you thought.

Most of the people had gone (it wasn't a very exciting party now that everyone was on a sad high), it was nearing 5 A.M., and Jeff was calling his girlfriend asking him to come down to his house for a cuddle.
Harry, your crush since high school was sat across from you with his girlfriend, Camille. She was pretty and French and she had Harry wrapped around her finger â at least that was what you thought.
You got up for a drink, not wanting to be sat across from Harry any longer since seeing his face just made your heart ache. You had to brush it off. He doesn't love you back.
The kitchen wasn't lit up red like the living room was, and the boy you were getting away from came crawling right back to you. But not back for you.
"Hey, (y/n)." Harry breathed out, making you shudder and look over your shoulder to get a glimpse of him before quickly turning back.
"Hi, Harry." you said plainly, not wanting to engage in any sort of conversation. You grabbed a red solo cup, as you forgot your last one that was probably on the carpeted floor somewhere, and poured yourself some lemonade.
You could feel Harry right next to you as his arm reached out in front of you to grab the jug of lemonade, you almost gasped at how close he was. You felt like a teenager again and you hated it.
"You're still sober, huh?" Harry chuckled softly making you snap your head towards him, your eyebrows raising slightly.
"Uh, yeah I guess." you sighed, slowly inching away from him.
"What do you mean you guess?" he pressed, turning around and putting his hand on the counter behind him to support his tall frame.
"I'm probably secondhand high from all the weed they're smoking." you smiled softly, looking down into your cup as you heard Harry's sweet laugh. Oh, how you missed that sound.
"That makes two of us. I think we're the only ones sober." you didn't reply to him at that point as Camille came dancing in, singing what sounded like "Everywhere" by Fleetwood Mac but the words were all wrong.
"Hey, baby. You okay?" Harry asked as she took his black fisherman hat off his head, putting it on hers, still dancing around the kitchen.
"Yeaahhh, I'm fine. Does Jeff have any chocolate cake. Oh! And red wine, too." she asked, looking through all the cupboards and drawers.
"Don't think so. You should ask him." Harry suggested as you smirked, looking down at your cup again.
"This party sucks ass, you can't expect me to smoke and not have anything good to eat with it." she whined, standing near the counter for a moment, before huffing and turning back to the living room.
"She's cute." you said softly, looking over your shoulder back to Harry.
"And quite the handful." he laughed softly as you turned around with your back towards the counter just like Harry.
"You cut your hair." you hummed, noticing his slightly roughed up hair that curled up at the ends. It looked just like it did when he was a junior before he grew it out for the rest of his high school years. You didn't see him for all of college until graduation when he came for Jeff's graduation. You were friends with Jeff so he introduced you two again and things have been slightly awkward ever since.
"You didn't notice?" he smirked. "Come on (y/n), we've been friends for almost a year. Not counting high school, of course." he teased, making you smile softly at him calling you friends. You were always modest with labels, always afraid of thinking things of more than what they turn out to be. Maybe that's why you were so bad with relationships.
"I guess you always wore that damn hat. You look like a more mature version of your sixteen year old self, it's nice." you said as Harry ran a hand through his hair. You had to admit, you still had a crush on him. Everything he did was so mesmerizing. You couldn't help but wish to be in Camille's position as much as you hated to confess. And maybe you were just the slightest bit jealous that she was the one who got to kiss him goodnight and tell him how much she loves him.
The conversation between you and Harry eventually died out as he went back to his girlfriend and friends. You looked over to the clock on the oven and it read 6 A.M., making you look through the kitchen window to see the dark sky lightening up a little.
You crept back into the living room and everybody was sleeping on the couch except for Harry, who was nowhere to be seen. Maybe this was your cue leave the dead party. You grabbed your stuff and snuck out the front door before you heard someone say your name.
"(Y/n)!" you turned around and saw Harry sitting on the porch swing, legs perched up on the swing that was hung from the ceiling. "Come sit with me? We can watch the sun rise."
"Sure," you smiled, walking back up the two stairs as the wood beneath you creaked when you walked towards Harry. You sat on the swing next to him. It rocked slightly, as you lifted your leg up and rested your chin on it. "Do you need a ride home? Your girlfriend's fucking stoned and you look quite alone."
"No, I think I'm good." he laughed a bit, scratching his neck. "I think I might just hang out till everybody is awake and sober."
You simply nodded, as you kept your gaze right ahead of you, scared you might look at Harry for too long and fall deeper into whatever infatuation you had for him.
The music from inside could still be heard from where you were sitting, though it was muted, it still sounded calming and filled the awkward silence nicely. Right now a song from the Cocteau Twins was playing, and it sounded even better from outside as you watched the sunrise.
"You know I used to have a crush on you in high school." Harry said, making your eyebrows raise in shock as you darted your head towards him.
"You did?" you asked, coming out a little more aggressive than you intended it to.
"Yep." he smiled. "All four years in fact."
"That's," you hesitated. "interesting, because I have a crush on you, too."
"Still?" he asked, making you mentally go back and curse yourself for using present tense. Of course, it wasn't incorrect, just wasn't what you intended to reveal.
"W-well no, um, not anymore at least. I don't think." you stammered, making you bite your lip quickly before spewing out some more. "But it's just, like, you have a girlfriend now. And it's all weird. God I don't know what I'm saying, just forget it." All Harry did was smile intently at you, which you took as him trying to hold back laughter.
"So you still have a crush on me?" he pressed playfully, making you roll your eyes and scoff.
"Are you really gonna make me say it." you asked, your voice lower than it had been the entire night.
"Yeah, say it. Just do it, I wanna hear you say it." he laughed quietly, shifting in his seat, turning more towards you.
"If I say it, you have to tell me honestly what you think. Even if it's 'I hate your guts and I never wanna see you again', okay?" you asked, creasing your eyebrows, internally preparing for this to be the last time you see Harry without it feeling like the world was closing in.
"Okay, promise I'll be completely honest."
"Fine. I like you, Harry. I like you a lot. Maybe even more than I did in high school." you confessed, not holding back. You felt as if that were your chance to completely let go. You didnât feel the need to act cold anymore. âYour turn.â you almost winced. You didnât want to hear the harsh truth that was bound to escape Harryâs pretty lips.
âWell,â he sighed. âIâm not in love with Camille.â he exhaled sharply. âGod, it feels good to say that. Iâm absolutely sure Iâve been in love with you all along. Even through high school, I especially felt that way when you were dating Josh. That year sucked for me, mostly because of that.â Harry just let it all out at once, and you were floored. Between the soft music, his beautiful voice and even the very words he was saying.
The sun was burning red on your face at this point as it rose, peaking through the endless trees ahead.
âIâm sorry. That was a lot. I fell in love with you right at graduation. I just missed you so much and didnât realize how much you meant to me. And Iâve been meaning to break up with Camille but- I just didnât know how.â You just smiled, and look right at him. This moment felt so perfect.
âItâs okay, Harry.â you said softly, moving your legs over his black jean clad ones as he wrapped his arms around you. You paused a moment, looking to see the sun inching up and out of the trees. âDoesnât it feel nice to finally breathe?â
âDefinitely.â he breathed out, laughing softly, making you pout and pull him closer.
âAnd I love you, too.â you said, a smile creeping up on his face as he squeezed your side, asking, âYou do?â
âItâs been brewing for a while but I fell in love with you like five minutes ago. Maybe it was the song that was playing or the sunrise. Or could be the fact that mer-â And then it happened, he planted his pretty pink lips on yours. The same lips youâve been eyeing all night and for the past few years. Maybe you shouldâve pulled away since he was technically still dating Camille, but all your morals melted away in that moment.
You shifted a bit and switched positions so that you were straddling him. Harryâs hands found his way to your back pockets and gripped you through there, groaning into the kiss. You wanted him so bad, but in your mind, you stepped back a bit and from that perspective, it wasnât right. You pulled away softly, smiling at him, brushing the hair away from his face.
âWe shouldnât be doing this, H.â you sighed as he took his hands out of your pockets, instead wrapping them around your waist tightly, pulling you in closer and resting his head against your chest.
âI know.â
âJust,â you inhaled sharply. âBreak up with her and Iâm all yours, I promise.â you almost couldnât bear to say her name, you just felt so bad.
âI will. Right now, letâs go inside sheâs probably awake and still has the munchies.â
âYou sure you donât wanna wait till sheâs sober?â you creased your eyebrows, as Harry lifted his head from your chest.
â(Y/n), I swear Iâll do anything right now to have you. Right after I tell her, I swear I might just take you on this swing.â he groaned, scooping his hands under your bottom, lifting you up and sitting you on the porch ledge.
âHarry!â you squealed, holding onto him tightly. âLetâs just go inside. Better yet, Iâll stay out here and you can tell her and she doesnât even have to see me.â
âFine, you can stay out here. But what if I need help?â he pouted, making you hold his rosy cheeks that were wickedly cold from the November air.
âI promise youâll be okay, my love.â you smiled, making him giggle. He fucking giggled.
âCall me that again.â
âMy loveee.â you sang, dragging out the end before kissing the corner of his mouth quickly. âPlease just get this over with, I want you so bad.â
âOkay, okay. I just want a kiss for encouragement.â he said, making you roll your eyes and kiss him sweetly. âGod, youâre incredible. I love you.â
âI love you, now please go inside, Iâll get the car nice and warm.â
Harry kissed your cheek and jogged in through the front door. You walked to your car, smiling ever so brightly. You wondered if you were still friends. Maybe friends that are in love with each other, you thought. You really were bad with labels. But you wanted you and Harry to work out so bad. He was everything you ever wanted since forever ago. Now youâre thinking the wait was worth it.
All of a sudden Harry came running out of Jeffâs pretty blue house and down the porch steps. He opened the car door and scrambled in.
âGo, go, go.â he said quickly, getting his seatbelt on. âBefore she keys your fucking car.â you pulled out of Jeffâs driveway quickly, seeing Camille come out the front door, throwing Harryâs hat off the porch.
âJesus Christ are you okay, what happened?â you breathed out as you drove down the road, passing through Jeffâs quaint neighborhood.
âShe wasnât high anymore and she got really pissed.â he exhaled, finally getting his breathing back to a steady pattern. We came to a stop light as you look to Harry in the passenger seat before he grabbed your face and kissed you roughly. âBack to your house, yeah?â

In which Harryâs been acting a little cold lately so (y/n) gives him his space, until he comes home cuddly and sorry.
Fluff // 1.1k words
The apartment was quiet, more quiet than usual on a Sunday night. Harry was at the studio the whole day. You woke up cold, Harry gone from the bed and nowhere to be seen. He's been acting cold lately, not seeming fully there. You didn't let it get to you, knowing he was probably in one of his funks. All you could do was be as understanding as possible.
You finished doing the laundry, tidying up the house and dinner was cooking, hoping Harry would get home in time. You cooked his favorite dish, wanting him to loosen up a little. You hated seeing him like this, it wasn't good for either of you.
Just as you were pulling out dinner from the oven, Harry unlocked the door, his eyes drooping and frown lines deeper than usual. Poor boy looked so stressed and your heart sank at his appearance, wanting nothing more than to kiss all the stress away.
"Hey," you smiled softly, keeping your voice at a calming tone. "Just in time. I made you your favorite."
Harry smiled weakly, stuffing his keys in his pocket as you came out from behind the counter. You waited for him to come over, still testing out the waters. You didn't want to smother him and put him in an even worse mood.
"Hey," he smiled, cupping your checks. "I love you so much." he breathed out, kissing you for the first time in the past week. The kiss was full of urgency, passion and need. You kissed him back with the same energy, snaking your hands around his neck.
"I love you," you said, smiling knowing that you got your Harry back. "I missed you so much."
"I missed you, too. I'm sorry I've been in such a bad mood, darling. Was being a proper dick, wasn't I?" he laughed softly, caressing his nail polished thumb over your cheek.
"You were," you admitted. "but now you're back to nice Harry and that's all the matters."
"You're so good to me, (y/n). Making me dinner, still bein' nice to me after I was acting like a total jerk." Harry mumbled, pulling you in tightly, wrapping his arms around your shoulders, holding you nice and snug.
You felt so safe in his arms, nothing could go wrong when you were with him. You were so happy to have the real Harry back. It was honestly really stressful having Harry act so cold, it felt like you were the only one living in the apartment. Of course he would wrap his arms around your waist when you fell asleep, but it didn't feel the same. But, you let him be by himself for a while because you knew he would come back soon. And there he was, back to his happy self that you missed so much.
Harry eventually let go of the hug that seemed to last a lifetime and dragged you to the dining table as you ate your dinner and talked about his week.
From what you collected, it was not a good week. He had to find a new keyboardist for him to tour with, he forgot to save one of the songs he wrote on his laptop and it fully disappeared, he dropped his phone in the toilet â you had to have a laugh at that one.
You also suggested him talking through his feelings instead of growing distant and cold, which he agreed to, knowing his actions were ultimately unhealthy. Most times he doesn't even realize his changed demeanor until he notices you giving him space, and not waking him up with a bunch of kisses or cuddling closer to him while watching tv.
After dinner you cleared the dishes, getting ready to wash them when Harry comes up from behind you and snakes his arms around your waist, resting his chin on your shoulder.
"You don't have to do all this, you know?" Harry asked, pressing kisses on your shoulder. He knew you hated doing the dishes. "Here," he took the dishwasher brush out of your hand. "Let me do it, you've done enough tonight, bubby."
"Are you sure?" you asked, hating people doing things for you. You've always been a people pleaser, always putting everyone's needs before yours. It was something you were working on â self love. But you felt you needed to help in some way. "I can dry the dishes, how about that, H?"
"You don't have to, babe. I'm perfectly fine doing them myself." he smiled, washing the leftover tomato sauce off of the plate.
"Okay." you sighed, watching him intently, not really wanting to leave him again. You wanted to make up for the last week of his emotional absence.
"Don't frown, puppy." Harry said, snapping you out of your daze, you didn't even know you were frowning. You pushed yourself off the counter and came up behind Harry, resting your head on his back and wrapping your arms around his waist, much like how he did earlier.
You loved watching Harry do domestic things, it made him seem a lot more real* than he did doing his rockstar things. Being honest, you felt a little special being able to see all of the simple things he does. Everybody else just sees the Harry that tours, sings and does fucking Gucci campaigns. But you just see Harry. The Harry who reads tons of books, falls up the stairs, spends time with his family and makes a mean calzone. He is all you ever needed. And all he needed was you.
"Alrighty, all done." Harry sighed, putting the last of the dishes away. "Now what do you wanna do. Reckon I missed a few episodes of Love Island."
"Don't be mad but I watched them without you." you winced at the words, squinting your eyes just a little.
"Naughty (y/n). I probably deserved it though, yeah?"
"Mhmm," you hummed as he pressed kisses all over your face. "You weren't being too nice."
"I know, lovie. Promise I'll make it up to you." Harry lifted you to be sat up on the counter, your eyes now almost being at the same height, but Harry still was taller.
"You will?" you asked, smiling and biting your lip, pulling him closer.
"I will. I haven't touched you in a while, huh?" he pouted, you shook your head no. He started tracing circles with his thumbs on your thighs, making you shudder and the contact. You proved that it had* been that long. "Poor baby, I'm so sorry my love."
"It's okay." you shrugged, smiling softly and looking as innocent as ever.
"Tell you what. You get up those stairs and into our room and I'll be up shortly." he said, making you giggle in excitement as he let you slide down from the counter, back to your normal height difference.
"Okay, please be quick. I've missed you." you pleaded as he spanked your bottom softly.
"I know you have, baby, just be patient." Harry said, as you made your way up the stairs into your room.

A blurb in which Harry loves to push y/nâs buttons.
Warnings: daddy kink, spanking, fluff
Harry loved to push your buttons. He thought you were absolutely adorable when you got all hot headed, and you pouted, only to be lifted back up to your cheery self after a hug and, âIâm sorry, lovie, youâre just so cute when youâre angry.â
A blurb in which Harry loves to push y/nâs buttons.

Harry loved to push your buttons. He thought you were absolutely adorable when you got all hot headed, and you pouted, only to be lifted back up to your cheery self after a hug and, "I'm sorry, lovie, you're just so cute when you're angry."
Whether it was making fun of your height because you couldn't reach the top shelf to get your favorite tea, or picking on you when you take a little longer than usual unlocking the front door. He loved teasing you. You kept telling yourself you'd get back at him, but he was just too cute and you were too kind.
There were other times Harry was being mean, but it didn't at all match up to him teasing you about not reaching the top shelf. But, then, maybe you did deserve it. You were being bratty after all.
"Daddy," you whined, burying your face into the white duvet, ass up across Harry's lap as he spanked you once.
"Hey," he warned. "None o'that. Bad girls need to be punished, yeah?"
"Wasn't being bad," you said, pushing yourself up, straddling him. "I promise I wasn't trying to be bad."
"Back on your tummy, puppy, or I'll put my rings on." he said sternly, pushing your back down, but you didn't budge. You could almost see the anger bubbling out of him.
"Can I have a kiss first daddy?" you pouted, Harry shaking his head no.
"Don't deserve one, now, back on your tummy." he said, this time you gave in and slowly went back to your most dreaded position, even though you were so excited and the butterflies in your stomach were going crazy.
"Fine." you said, pouting again as Harry's jaw clenched.
"Stop the attitude, you acting like a brat." he said, grabbing your jaw and turning your head back towards him. "Is that what you are? A brat?" he asked, spanking you once more, harder this time.
"No, 'm not a brat. I'm daddy's good girl, right?" you bit your lip looking up at him. You could feel yourself getting wet, staring at his tense jaw and flared nostrils. He was mad.
"Better start acting like one. I want you to count for me. Think you can do that, puppy?" his eyes and tone softened for just a moment, silently asking if this was okay.
You nodded, saying, "Yes, daddy."
Harry spanked you a few times as you counted, rubbing his hand over your ass every few spanks to check if you were okay.
By the time he was finished you had mascara tears running down your face, your bottom was bright red, and your head was extremely cloudy. You felt like you could float away and all you wanted was Harry to hold you.
"You alright, bub?" Harry asked, pulling you up as you wrapped your legs around his waist and your arms around his neck.
"I'm so, so sorry, daddy. I won't be bad again, I just wanna be your good girl." you said, showering his face and neck with kisses as he laughed softly.
"You are my good girl, baby. So, so, perfect, my fuckin' angel. So good for daddy, taking her punishment like a big girl."
Other times, that weren't so naughty, Harry could still be a meanie. All you wanted was to kiss him. You can't help your height!
"Love, let me lift you up, you're pullin' on my neck too hard." Harry groaned, as you were on your tippy toes, pulling his neck down to reach his lips.
"No, you don't need to, I can reach!" you defended yourself, Harry ignoring you and lifting you up anyways.
"There, now you're normal height." he snickered, placing his hands under your butt, (which was still sore, by the way).
"I'm not that short, you're just a meanie." you pouted, stuffing your face into Harry's neck.
"I'm a meanie?" he asked, pretending to be offended, creasing his eyebrows as you fought the urge to kiss the crease between them.
"Yeah, you're a meanie. But you're a soft meanie, maybe that's why I still love you." you said, making him smile and pinch your bottom.
"Well, thank you for still loving me despite my meanness." he laughed softly, kissing your forehead.
"Of course, meanie." you giggled, leaning in to kiss him before whispering against his lips, "Now put me down," before kissing him softly.
It was safe to say Harry wasn't a meanie to you again, unless you were acting bratty.
In which (y/n) and Harry talk things through, and she sings a song she wrote about their breakup.
Angst, Fluff (kinda heh) // 1.8k words
Closure. Thatâs all you wanted to feel. Itâs all you wanted to gain from this holiday. That, and contentment. But, closure seemed to be the last thing you felt this very moment.
After reading the words Harry wrote about you, there were so many unanswered questions you wanted to crack. Was he really still in love with you like how he suggested in the song? Did he want you back? Did he want to have a thorough conversation about everything that went wrong? You just wanted to know.
A few days after the whole studio drama, Jeff called you letting you know you left one of your pens at the studio. You assured him it was fine and he could keep it, but he was dead set on you getting your pen back. You soon obliged, and made your way back to that dreaded studio.
The last time you showed up at the building, the pretty glass doors felt a lot different than they did now. This time around, it felt dark and heavy. Not like a place youâd want to pour your creativity into.
The receptionist gave you a sympathetic look as you strolled in, making you internally cringe, remembering the meltdown you had just outside those glass doors.
You got to Jeffâs door and knocked cautiously.
âHey, (y/n). Glad to see you again.â Jeff said, making you smile in response.
âYou too. Sorry about last time I was here.â you said, biting your lip as a nervous habit. Please donât make me explain, please be good to me, God, you thought, holding a short breath.
âItâs totally fine, (y/n). Why donât you come on in.â
You were too nice to decline and hesitantly walked in, glancing over to see Harry, sitting on the couch looking nervous as hell.
âJeff,â you whined, as he pushed you in the room, Harry looking right up at you. Fuck.
âOkay, you two have a lot of explaining to do.â Jeff said, sitting in his swivel chair, right in front of both you and Harry.
You kept a steady stare on Jeff, not wanting to turn your head and see the boy who made you hurt so much. You didnât want to admit you still wanted him, either.
âWe dated. For,â Harry hesitated before finishing his sentence. âA while.â a year and a half to be precise.
âAnd âFrom The Dining Tableâ is about (y/n).â You havenât heard him say your name in so long. About six months. And it took everything in you to not turn your head, and look him in the eyes once more.
âYeah.â was all you could build up the courage to say. You could feel Harryâs eyes burning holes into the side of your head. âI guess Iâm still trying to move on.â you said just above a whisper.
âMe too,â Harry laughed nervously. âI-I um, donât think Iâm even close to getting over us.â
Jeff smiled sympathetically, that could also be interpreted as a smile of pity. He opened his mouth to say something before closing it again.
âIâm gonna go get some water. What about you, (y/n)? You look a bit parched.â Jeff asked as he stood up from his swivel chair.
âYes please.â was all you could squeak out. Before you knew it, Jeff was gone and you and Harry were alone.
He stood up and sat in Jeffâs chair right across from you.
âHi.â he sheepishly smiled, making you look up and get a good look at him for the first time in a while.
âHi.â
âHow are you?â
âIâm good. You?â
âGood.â
âOkay, enough with the bullshit,â you started, sucking in a sharp breath before saying what youâve wanted to for so long. âIâm really sorry. God, Iâm so fucking sorry. Iâm an idiot, and I canât believe I let myself hurt you and just-â
âHey, Hey, none oâthat.â Harry laughed softly, pushing the chair with his foot closer to you. âIâm sorry, too. Never shouldâve ended it that way. Guess I had it coming, right?â
âYou kissed him?â Harry seethed, making your insides twist up and tears well at your eyes.
âYes, I kissed him.â you sighed, stabilizing yourself on the marble counter.
âAre you mental? Why did you do it (y/n)?â his voice broke when he said your name. No more pet names or soft, loving tones. It was time for you to be put in your place, whatever that meant.
âBecause, Harry! You slept with three girls on tour. One of them was your fucking ex. I felt like,â your voice trailed off, wanting to find the right words. âLike I need to get back at you, o-or become even.â you said, in a softer, more sheepish tone.
â(Y/n), I apologized and you forgave me. I made it clear I wouldnât do it again. It was a month ago for fucks sake.â he murmured, clearly missing the point. He didnât know. He didnât know all the nights you kept yourself up, crying about missing him, while he was probably fucking someone who wasnât you.
âHarry, you donât get it, do you?â this was when the tears made their way out from the pool that was forming in your eyes.
âMaybe I donât, why donât you explain it?â he said, his words laced with a hateful sarcasm that made your heart drop.
âIt still hurts! I still feel like Iâm not enough for you. And maybe I am and thatâs why I kissed him. Because I was drunk and he was there, and he made me feel like I meant something.â you cried out, aggressively wiping your tears away. Thatâs when Harry started crying, too.
âWeâre done then. Thatâs it, Iâll go get your stuff.â
âBandit misses you.â you said, mentioning your precious baby kitty that absolutely adored Harry, maybe even more than you.
âI miss him, too.â Harry smiled, scratching his neck, something he would do often. Niall said it was when he was nervous around girls but you never believed it.
âIs it so wrong to say I miss you, also?â you sighed out, almost immediately regretting it as the words fell from your mouth.
âNo thatâs okay. Probably because I miss you too.â he smiled sadly. âNever really admitted that until now but, yeah sâtrue. I still miss you.â
âGlad the feelingâs mutual.â you muttered, looking around the room, slightly overwhelmed by the aura of it all. âSo your albumâs going well I heard.â
âYeah,â Harry smiled. You could tell he was proud about his work which made you happy. âWhat about you, I know you were working on something. Any songs about me?â he teased, making you smile and hesitantly nod your head.
âYes, actually. Itâs called âTell Me Howâ. Sâreally sad.â
âWould you mind playing it foâ me?â he asked, making me purse you lips and think about it for a bit.
âSure.â you caved, standing from your seat and cautiously walk to the piano sitting towards the back of the room. Harry followed you as you sat down at the stool.
âI canât call you a stranger, but I canât call you. I know you think that I erased you. You may hate me but I canât hate you. And I wonât replace you.â Harry stood behind you with his lip in his fingers and his eyebrows creased. You didnât know what he made of the song, you just hoped he wasnât angry or any negative emotion that would jeopardize any good encounter you both had.
âTell me how to feel about you now, let me know. Should I suffocate or let go?â that was when it was time for the break in the song. Originally it wasnât there, but you found yourself needing a moment before you sang the next part, and it looked like Harry did, too.
His tense facial expressions morphed into some helpless look that youâve never seen him display before. You didnât think you could get through the next few lines without shedding at least one tear.
âOf all the weapons you fight with, your silence is the most violent. You donât have to tell me if you ever think of me. I know youâll see me dancing wildly in the fog in your memory. You donât have to tell me, I can still believe.â
You slowly finished the song before turning to look at Harry who fought so hard to only let a few tears fall, wiping them quickly before you could turn around to see.
You both stood there in uncomfortable silence, not daring to look each other in the eyes directly.
âThat was better than mine.â Harry broke the silence, making you laugh softly, biting your lip before looking back up at him.
âThank you, H. It means a lot.â
Harry moved closer to you, your breath hitching as he stood only inches from you. You could smell the familiar Tom Ford that almost seemed permanent on his skin. It felt almost too familiar, too close for comfort. Too good to be true, that Harry was there, talking things through and giving you the sense of closure you longed for since you got here.
âCan I kiss you?â Harry asked. You looked up at him and paused for a second, thinking if this was a good, wise decision.
âYes.â you gave in as he gently placed his hands on the sides of your head, his thumbs caressing your cheekbones and delicately placing a kiss on your lips. He felt the need to be as careful with you as possible, seeing as though he wasnât so careful with you before.
He hates how he didnât see what an absolute treasure you were when you were his. He was caught up in his own game, he didnât even notice your needs or wants.
Harry placed one more sweet kiss onto your soft lips, prolonging it since he never wanted to leave without you on him.
âCan you come back to mine?â he asked, not caring if he sounded needy or desperate, he just wanted you one more time, even if it was the last.
âIâm sorry, Harry.â you sighed, knowing that it wouldnât turn out okay, and spiral into a complete and total disaster. âBut I can meet you for coffee this week or today. Whatever works. We can talk it through.â
âIâd like that a lot.â Harry smiled, happy you didnât completely want to throw this away. âI still love you, you know. Never stopped.â
âI still love you, too. God, I havenât said that out loud before but,â you hesitated, sighing before saying it again. âI still love you.â
After that encounter, you still didnât know if things would work out with Harry as much as you wanted them to. At least you got what you wanted; closure.
In which y/n sings the harmony to a song Harry wrote about their break up.
Angst // 1.2k words
You were in Jamaica for a little holiday, all by yourself, finally wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle from your life back home.
Your heart was broken and every bone in your body was overworked. And maybe you missed Harry just a bit. You just needed to write to let go of him piece by piece, and maybe record them and leave them to sit in a file labeled âabout himâ on your laptop. Word got around that your producer friend, Jeff Bhasker, was in town so you thought it must be fate.
The first week of you holiday you didnât do anything. You were just feeling everything out, and it was nice. Everything was so beautiful and lush. Felt like a proper dream that you were walking in. But the next week, it was down to business.
Jeff called you up, asking if you could do harmonies for a song he was producing. You obviously said yes, also hoping to talk to him about some of the stuff you were working on.
The next day, you walked down to the studio that was half a mile away from the airbnb you were renting. You were excited, carrying your bag which held your notebook and various pens that you knew youâd lose throughout the day. For once, you werenât thinking about Harry. You were focused on yourself, and found the small bit of happiness you longed for ever since you started the holiday.
â(Y/n)!â Jeff exclaimed, pulling you in for a hug.
âJeff! You grew out your hair!â you laughed, pulling away, scanning your eyes across the room to find another long haired man, sitting on the couch, minding his sweet business.
âI did,â he laughed sheepishly before motioning his hand towards the man on the couch. âThis is Mitch, heâs the guitarist thatâs working on the album.â
âNice to meet you, Mitch, Iâm (y/n).â you smiled, as he looked towards you, smiling softly behind his beard and shaking your hand.
âNice to meet you, too.â he softly said, just above a whisper. Shy boy you thought.
âWell, right into business. I actually have two songs I need you for, that alright?â Jeff asked, sitting back in his seat next to Mitch.
You nodded in response, sitting next to the two boys.
âWhereâs the songwriter?â you asked, shifting in your seat, slightly uncomfortable they werenât there. You wouldnât dare to fuck up their song.
âGetting coffee, right?â Jeff asked, Mitch nodding towards him, not saying anything. âSorry, I donât think he knew you were coming.â
âGod, no itâs fine. Donât like coffee that much anyways.â you smiled, putting your hands under your thighs.
It was cold in the quaint room, the whole atmosphere felt like a studio, like a bunch of minds working to the best of their strengths. It was inspiring.
âYouâre only singing that part, as of now. Might throw you in somewhere else if needed.â He explained, making me smile in response.
Jeff explained the harmonies to me as we went over them a few times. He handed me a notebook with the lyrics written in pretty handwriting on the lines.
The top of the page was labeled âFrom The Dining Tableâ, but that was all you read before you were pushed into the booth, putting your headphones on quickly.
You skimmed the page to your part when Jeff gave you a thumbs up, and you were ready to go.
The track started playing and you had no time to decipher the voice that was playing in your ears. It was beautiful for sure. As smooth as honey with just the right amount of gravel and rasp. It felt like home, or at least what used to be home.
That was when you read the whole page. There was something so painful about the writing. It felt like you were reliving everything that happened with Harry. Even the singer sounded like Harry. You felt bad for whoever wrote it, they mustâve gone through so much pain and grief. It all just hurt.
âThanks, (y/n). You can come out now.â Jeff said from behind the glass. You took the headphones off and went back into the room with Jeff and Mitch. Everything felt so heavy, like you need a good cry.
âThatâs a really good fucking song.â you sighed, wrapping your arms around yourself, looking down at your yellow vans that all of a sudden reminded you of him again.
âYeah? I like it a lot.â Jeff said, dragging your vocals over the singerâs, synching them up.
âW-who wrote that?â
âHarry Styles. Donât know if you know him. He used to be in One Direction.â Jeff said nonchalantly.
It was about you. The song Harry wrote and had you singing the harmonies to, was about you. You didnât know if your jaw dropped or if you tensed up. You just know you froze, at there was a pit at the bottom of your stomach and tears welling at your eyes.
You grabbed the notebook again and read the page over. It was Harryâs handwriting and his story. Well, both of your stories. It all made sense now.
âOh my God.â you whispered, covering your mouth with both of your hands.
âOh you do know him! I thought maybe you liked that boyband back in the day.â Jeff joked. Mitch looked over to you and could tell something was off.
âYou okay-â
âHiya! Sorry I took so long. The fucking barista took ages.â the familiar voice rung throughout the room, your head snapping towards the door. It was him. The boy you dreaded facing ever since it happened.
âI gotta get going,â you mumbled, taking your bag, not trying to make eye contact with Harry.
But, you failed and could see all the hurt and confusion in his eyes, along with the anger searing through him when he looked at Jeff.
You brushed pass him before he had the time to explode, leaving the small studio.
The tears blurred your vision as a loud âfuckâ was heard from the outside of the door.
You stumbled your way into the lobby and pushed the doors open, and sat on a bench ready to just let go and start crying. Nobody was around, really. And you felt as though you deserved a good cry. Today was just not the best day.
And maybe it was true, that you wanted to see him again. But not in that context. It all felt so wrong. You felt you werenât supposed to be allowed to sing that song. You just got a taste of how Harry felt about your whole situation. You werenât the only one who got hurt.
As you were crying, Harry was throwing his own fit back in the studio. Jeff was oblivious as to when Harry started cursing him out. He finally broke down and started crying be he still loved you. And despite him saying he completely moved on and everything was okay now, it really wasnât.
You wished he would just burst through those doors and let you explain and express how sorry you really were. But that time never came, even after sitting there, crying, for thirty minutes.
You came to the conclusion he never wanted to see you again. And if that was the case, then so be it.
