And If I doodled starbee? What then?
Somebody explain the strange appeal of StarBee to me. I am fascinated by it. I reblog things about it. But I don't understand why I like it. People who can rationalize this ship, why do you like it?
I know there's a particular moment where they bond in IDW but I haven't read it so I can't speak for that in particular. I just vibe with it.
I think the best way I can explain its appeal for me personally is that it’s an opposites-attract kind of ship that’s full of contrasts that often highlights the setting around Bee and star alongside playing with their respective tropes.
Bumblebee and Star effectively take up a similar niche in their factions, both are close to their leaders (Bee emotionally, Starscream through rank). They’re often more commedic and more accessible to the audience compared to then as well. In a way, they sort of act as reflections of the Autobot and Decepticon culture within the continuity and so when you push them together, you get an emotional clash between two characters who have been close to hearts of the war that exposes flaws in their viewpoints -> Bee often going unappreciated or being treated like a child rather than a competent warrior and Starscream being a reflection of how the Decepticon’s culture regarding power creates those who will do what is necessary to seize it or survive.
For me personally, there’s also a matter of these characters going against the grain by being with each other. Bee gets to be a little sarcastic and mean, Starscream shows a more kind and relaxed side which often ripples into them processing their feelings more. They move out of their assigned roles and get to be a little weird with each other in a way that’s a different vibe from some of their other ships (as much as i do love those other ones!)
I’ll also add that another piece of appeal is definitely the corruption/redemption arc vibes of their ship -> Bee getting corrupted by Starscream’s temptation/Starscream getting dragged kicking and screaming into a redemption arc.
