But I am not going to lie….. the furry fandom did kind of change the definition of anthropomorphic they cut a huge part of it out involving characters who are indeed feral, but can talk… those characters by definition count as anthropomorphic characters because they have the human characteristics of consciousness and speech… however, a bunch of people in the furry fandom keep denying them as such because they don’t have bodily human characteristics…
Take it with a grain of salt because I am not a furry, but most animal cartoon characters have facial composition and body language resembling a human, even if they walk on four legs. That should be enough to say they're physically anthropomorphic.
I do support people being into those that aren't, too, though.

You are correct: cartoon animals, while still categorized as "ferals" by furries are also anthropomorphic.
"Feral" is not a claim about a character's mental emotional or communication abilities. It's a claim about whether a human having sex with them would "look like" having sex with a costume alien, or look like having sex with a recognizable animal. Because "feral" is first and foremost a genre of fucking porn that then expanded out to include non-erotic uses.
This relates to older obscenity laws where drawing "bestiality" was more obscene than drawing "cartoons" and so ferals had to be restricted to more high security spaces like login-walled hidden forum boards, or invitation-only clubs before the internet.
However, the act of giving an otherwise totally normal animal any human characteristic, absolutely including facial expressions and body language is anthropomorphization.
That's just. What the word means.
However, there has been a huge pushback in the last 10 years or so to the openly queer and sex positive culture of furries. They have their own sex negative movements, just like other fandoms have "antishippers" and "think of the children."
And that means washing your hands of anything that includes a dirty nasty sex word like "feral."
So now people who are deeply entrenched in a fascistic antisex narrative in broader culture are coming in to furry spaces, finding out that "ferals are when it looks like sex with an animal" and concluding that's Basically Really Zoophilic Rape Apologia.
As a result, they needed to narrow and close the definition of the Good And Wholesome, Pure Hearted Anthros to create a clear delineation from Bad Nasty Hypersexual Ferals.
And they did this by deciding that "anthro" does not mean "animal with human features," it means "animal with a bipedal, humanoid limb map."
This is gibbering nonsense, of course. First of all, anthro already has a meaning in greater society, and that meaning is also the one used by furries for the entirety of our existence, and some sex-hating newbies rolled up to start swatting us with newspapers and redefine our words in insane ways, then somehow make it look like we did that so we get the blame too.
Like, the amount of non-furries I've seen who laugh and laugh about how "furries don't even know what anthropomorphic means" is exhausting. (Hint: it tends to come from spec-fic fans who are used to distinguishing between humanoid and nonhumanoid aliens and monsters)

I am hoping to collect several thousand such posts, so that I have a decent sized dataset. I do not care what the post is about; if it's labeled as "mature content", I want to add it to my dataset.
If I get 10,000 posts in my dataset before August 31st 2026, I will post my preliminary findings then. I won't feel comfortable calling my findings "settled" before 2027, unless I get over 50,000 posts.
I am not talking about that unless I have results to share. That would bias the results.
I did write them down and I did share them with a trusted contact who can prove that I wrote them down the same day I made this post. (While I did so before I made this post, I am not sure they will be able to provide proof of that, because I did so on the same day.)

Technically no. There's no way to respond to this without introducing some bias in the results, and I don't want that. However, I do collect some data on a post as part of making it useful to me, and that data is easier to collect if the post is recent.
What if I request content label review on a post after I send it to you?
I need to see the mature content label to be able to use the post. Because the mature content label hides the content of the post, it is very hard to use a post that no longer has a mature content label. You could send me a screenshot, but people could use that to lie to me.
Basically, it's more work for you to make it usable to me.

I promise I'm not a transphobe and not doing this for transphobic reasons. You should still double-check that I'm not a transphobe for yourself, though. I am not sure that this study will have the useful effects you're hoping for; I am studying something specific, and it may not be what you hope.

This question comes in two parts. Part one: well if I were doing it secretly, I wouldn't tell you that, now would I? I promise I'm not doing that, but like, isn't that what I would say if I were lying to you?
Part two: LMAO if you think Tumblr doesn't already have the ability to nuke all posts marked "Mature Content" just as thoroughly as they nuke trans women's blogs. Now like, a mass reporting campaign targeted at this dataset could still have negative effects, if nothing else by getting employee eyes on the posts. Which is why I'm going to have to be careful who I share the full dataset with. But that's antithetical to my goal here.

Yes please. I am studying the clickthroughs themselves, more than the content of the post; but for the same reason I am looking at the clickthrough myself. You don't have to look at the clickthorough if you don't want to.
I am specifically comparing posts labeled "potentially mature content" to those labeled "mature content". Some people have turned the clickthrough filter back on so that they make sure to notice when posts they would not consider mature got flagged. I am very grateful to these people.

Tumblr uses github to track past versions of their community guidelines (good! +1 trust), but they didn't do so when they last updated the community guidelines (bad! minus a whole bunch of trust).
The main reason I’m pushing for people to stop using the term ‘pedophile’ and instead use the term ‘child sexual abusers’, is because since all discussions of child sexual abuse focus on this idea of an evil person who is just out to get kids because they are sexual attracted to them, it makes it hard for kids who where sexually assaulted by people who don’t fit that description to realize they were sexually assaulted.
It didn’t register for me until recently that my experiences of being forced to strip naked multiple times at the mental hospital to be ‘checked’ when I was 14 was sexual assault, because the people who did it were nurses/doctors who clearly didn’t find me sexually attractive but instead used it as a form of humiliation and control towards children they deemed as ‘unruly’ and ‘uncooperative’ (ie. children who asked to be treated like people). I thought only people who fit into this idea of a child attracted pedo could be child sexual abusers, so I thought my experience didn’t count.
Stepping away from the idea that there is a pedophile boggieman and instead highlighting that anyone can be a child sexual abuser will help more people realize that their experiences are sexual assault.
my stepfather would openly sexually harass me and my siblings at dinner while also loving the fantasy of killing pedophiles. whether he personally found our abuse sexually gratifying was frankly irrelevant to whether it traumatized us. whether he would be considered a pedophile or not doesn't change that he committed sexual abuse of children
I think in his mind there was a type of horrible person out there who does horrible things, and because he didn't think of himself as fitting that category, his actions could not be judged
there's a lot of talk about reading comprehension and one thing i think is the biggest barrier to people on this site getting better at it is simply... rushing. rushing to share something you haven't understood, rushing to have an opinion without taking the time to think about it, rushing to declare that you don't understand something

the thing is. this is what i would call an inside thought. nobody would have known you didn't get it if you didn't tell them that. if you recognised that it was important but didn't have the headspace to process it, you can reblog without commentary for others, or to come back to later. or you can save it somewhere and wait until you DO have the capacity to read it over a few more times, ponder it, consider what it might mean, figure out how to understand it, and THEN reblog it
but no. rushing to reblog while it is still opaque. rushing to admit to ignorance rather than spend the time to achieve understanding. perhaps hoping that somebody will break it down for you more simply, though to my mind it was quite simply phrased in the first place. never stopping to take the time first
comprehension is not always instant! sometimes it takes a bit of time for something to percolate after you read it; sometimes you need to read it a few times; sometimes you realise you don't have the context for it and either go and get the context or accept that it's not for you right now
please just simply slow down. you don't always have to respond to everything within a second or two. it is okay if it is not an instantaneous understanding. we all need to get more comfortable with thinking more slowly and more deeply and more carefully, and not letting our instant split second responses drive us all the time, because they are a barrier to genuine reflection
