I love the way that justice is viewed in the Flight SMP and would love for more people to talk about it or just send asks about their opinions surrounding it!! I am a political science NERD and specifically took many classes on things such as the justice system, dictatorships, and also juvenial delinquency. The way that the flight characters are in positions of power but not royalty, they are riders, by and large they have more sway when it comes to raw physical power but they actually seem to have very little political power since their basically a military branch. I think this colors the way many characters see the justice system and the situation at hand (it also dosen't help that these characters are all like early 20's to 30's at the most) Most of my attention for this has been on May the rebel and Ambear/legs/pyro/ megii. What is justice to these people? What does May deserve when it comes to punishment? How do we treat our enemies if we are given the opportunity for revenge? Does the kingdom hold the right to bring about the death penelty? do the dragon riders deserve final say in locking someone underground and torturing them because this person hurt them horribly? What is the extent of justice and when does it become a tool of both oppression and anger? This isn't to say Ambear does not deserve to hurt may or that she is wrong to feel this way but I wanna open the floor to conversations in media surrounding these topics like torture, vigilante justice, the death penelty, and more! And this isn't to say the rebels should get away scott free! We've seen the harm they've caused even if the queen is insane and clearly hiding stuff. The rebels (or at least K) where too aggressive and put the riders on the edge to the point of all rebels becoming kill on sight basically. More characters should get worse so that we may analyze their views of the world they live in ^^

So from what I’ve seen and heard Osteon is confirmed a rebel? The book was apparently signed by O and makes mention of a K and the known rebel R. It’s interesting how with this she has outright tried selling Tf!Aj out maybe because of being too large of a liability?

If anything I assume this reveals that this K person is the one who ordered the poisoning and constant attacks on the riders. Which would explain the difference in rebellion tactics which shows why what they say doesn’t match up with actions. Several leaders are on this mission with a council heading the rebellion which is truly fascinating. At least we know that Osteon does care about the riders if anything unless this is a whole lie on their end.

However, the bargaining power of a princess is far greater than that of even an exceptional soldier. Thornreach would be right to say..."

drift was both a danger and IN danger. while we don't know the rest of the book, i think our assumptions are right. osteon wanted drift gone, aka "out of harm's way," and aj, as per usual, conducted this in the most destructive way she could have. osteon nor flick, the two people who MAY have had a say, have no idea it went down like this in the lavender fields.

so we have two possibilities: it was all an act on aj's part, or there was genuine emotional instability.

if it was an act, i applaud aj, because damn. but then i withdraw my hands because you could have JUST COMMUNICATED THE SITUATION. and i feel like even aj would know this—she's part of the rebels, she should know how to handle these situations better. so this one is more doubtful, but possible. and if this was true, she went back to ghostie's room and said "no, i'm not okay" because she had to scare away the girl she was in love with, and now has to live without, and it's killing her.

if it was genuine emotional instability—say, she heard what osteon said, but took it a different way—then she has let the decay fester without relief for far too long. the decay is absolutely tied to how she behaves, her cognitive functions and brain chemistry. otherwise it's a funny little coincidence, a deliberate one, so either way, it's ought to say something. so she blew up at drift, felt like her trust had been demolished, knew drift had to leave and figured "what better way to make sure she doesn't stick around?" as well as "she's a liar." and if this is true, she went back to ghostie's room for all the reasons we have interpreted—respite, to simmer in her regret, and for the confirmed reason, which is that aj's mind can't even comprehend being anywhere else because it is frightening/unpredictable/just-not-a-thought.

i just wanted to put the thoughts out there with my own words, and combine both. there's more nuance on every side. as i watch drift's pov, her actions become clearer. i don't think i've incorporated every necessary detail, but this wrecks my heart as is and i couldn't be asked to gather my thoughts enough to portray what's going on. i think we all know.

Some abusers do follow through and commit suicide after their victim escapes and I hate the way that victims are treated after that happens. The abuser did not kill themselves because they ‘loved their [victim] so much they couldn’t live without them’, they killed themselves because they lost control and dying a martyr was better than sticking around and putting up with the fallout and reputational damage. They killed themselves because it was one final way to hurt their victim and leave them with a massive mess to clean up. In a hypothetical world where they actually killer themselves because they ‘loved their [victim] so much they couldn’t live without them’, the victim should still be under absolutely no obligation to stay and that is an unhealthy dynamic for both of them.

This happens between couples, in parent-child relationships, in friendships and other dynamics but I have to specifically highlight it within the context of domestic violence committed by a male partner against a female partner. The reaction is particularly rancid because there is a societal expectation that women should ‘take care of’ men and be responsible for them. A woman can spend 15 years trying to help a violent man get better when he has no desire to do so and when she finally leaves for the safety of herself and her children and he ends his life, she is blamed for it. As though he wasn’t the perpetrator, as though he wouldn’t have killed her and the kids if he had continued access. I wish I could say this is uncommon but a not insignificant number of men commit suicide after their wife files for divorce/after their divorce is finalized and reactionary misogynists continuously point to this as a reason divorce is bad or women are evil instead of acknowledging that that guy was holding his family hostage and ended his life when his hostages escaped.

Other people have mentioned it but public figures doing this after allegations come out should probably be taken as an admission of guilt and not damning proof that their accuser lied and bullied them to death. If they weren’t, they could sue their accuser into oblivion and even the guilty try. They knew they were caught and there was no way out.

Totally normal for a legitimate for-profit company to refuse to reclaim or stop running their products even after they're no longer being paid to do so. I'm sure it's very normal to just keep running your service for free when your contract's been terminated. Spending money to continue running cameras that supposedly no one is looking at is definitely not an indicator they are just run by the federal government to spy on everyone and only a wacko conspiracy theorist would think so.
