i don't understand eren, ok I admit it. it's so hard to really understand his character. he has soft and gentle side but in the other hand he's just like some edgy creepy kid? idk. so can you describe eren or even write an analysis about his character? thank you.
Well, Iām not gonna sit here and say I know Eren 100% either cuz Iām not Isayama. And nothing is set in stone till we reach the final panel of this manga, in other words, I know full well that 9 out of 10 times I could be wrong about my presumptions of him.Ā
Anyway, Iām no meta writer, so Iām just gonna say what I think I understand as of now and keep it short.
Eren hasnāt changed drastically like so many people think, if you pay close enough attention to his true character. Naturally, he matured (within a couple of months pre-time skip technically) and he grew, and his attitude and methods changed, but not his core beliefs, as Iāve said before.Ā What did change was his focus, before it was the titans and now itās the world, and Eren is doing what heās always done, seek freedom and destroy whatever was in his way from attaining it. And that aspect of Eren is what makes him scary. He already said so himself.Ā
Honestly, his actions shouldnāt be that much of a shocker. We shouldāve seen this coming, but itās easy for the audience to be surprised because weāre too used to seeing Eren kill titans and not innocent people.Ā
I donāt think he should be painted as an overall evil character either though, everyone is morally grey in this story. Eren does have humanity, and people often forget that during the 4-year time skip, he desperately tried to look for another way and have some faith in the sc in hopes of hearing better news.
You can clearly see the frustration, disappointment and sadness in his face whenever heās realizing more and more that the future he saw is inevitable and that heās gonna be given no choice but to resort to the rumbling. Which is why his anger during the scene in chapter 107 makes all the sense now, even then, when he was dead set on his goals, he was still open to an alternative.
He even stopped and considered the euthanization plan because of his immense guilt, he recognizes how ghastly the rumbling is, but most people want to look at this as him crying crocodile tears lol so I donāt know what to say.Ā
Eren is literally cornered right now, and heās the only one who can really take action. And sorry but, Marley went from constant pushing for decades, to shove, and Eren can only take so much bs, so he snapped (not to mention, Marley and the rest of the world were more interested in Eldiaās resources thatāll make them rich than anything else). Itās either the world or his people/freedom, and knowing Eren, he truly is a monster who wonāt submit. Now, youāre probably wondering if thisāll make me flip a bitch and cancel Eren just bc half the fandom is, no. Not any time soon. Heās a geniusly written character and I love him too much (I say for the umpteenth time). Iāve come to the conclusion that heās going to be hated as a whole no matter what, pre or post time skip, heās definitely won an award of being one of the most loathed characters in the series lol.Ā
So yeah, of course, in the long run, this is simply my opinion and you donāt have to agree with me but thereās my answer. However, Iām not jumping to conclusions either, thereās no telling what Eren will do (if he wakes up) and whatās to come with these remaining chapters. Just keep reading.Ā
