December 28th, Happy Birthday Warts!
Warts is a secondary character that appears in the anime series and the games.
Warts is a Djungarian hamster. It is the first case of a real hamster species being specifically mentioned on the series. As so, he features the Djungarian’s notorious features: he is smaller than the standard hamster and his back is gray with darker stripes. Most of the Djungarian’s voices are also a tone higher than the usual hamsters, although this is more noticeable in some than others.
Warts’s personality is a little unknown, given the fact that in the series he rarely speaks more than monosyllables and grunts, while in the games he does speak normally but not too much. As a Djungarian, however, we can assume that he is shy and likes to avoid conflict as possible, mainly considering himself as prey.
Warts lives on Djunglebell Island, an island somewhere in the presumably tropical latitudes of the Earth, given the variety of landscape which includes thick jungles and deserts. However, this could just be another magical world, much like Sweet Paradise.
Warts’s Japanese name is Kaeru-san, which literally means “Mr. Frog”. The fact they added the “-san” rather than because of being polite is because most children (and Hamtaro for that matter) address animals with -san.
Warts seems to change his costume on Ham-Ham Games after you beat the game the first time and so on, to a hippo then a palm tree. This is not reflected on the anime where a different Djungarian wears each of these. His team is the weakest one and usually ends up last place.
His birthday is probably a countdown towards the end of the year. As the other Djungarian’s (Bunny, Stripes and Leo specifically) birthdays are coming up in the next three days.
Warts does not appear to have any known relationships or love interests.
Episode 211 - Here Come the Djungarians!
In this episode we are introduced to a lot of Djungarians, when the Ham-Hams end up on their island thanks to Lazuli’s magic! However, the Cactus Brothers stole Lazuli’s hourglass, and now they have to recover it if they’re to go back to their home!
Episode 212 - Summertime, Searching for the Treasure!
The Ham-Hams continue to search for the hourglass and they end up at some ruins in the desert. Adventure awaits!
Episode 213 - Swimming in the Jungle!
In the next episode of the D’junglebell Island arc, the Ham-Hams end up at the sea… and they are able to swim with some special suits! What awaits them under the sea?
Episode 214 - Become the King of the Jungle!
After finally finding the Cactus Brothers, they end up at the town where the Djungarians play to choose who is King. Will the Ham-Hams win?
Episode 215 - Let’s Do It, Otome!
The Ham-Hams are almost out of time, and Otome wants to win the contest too! Will they succeed in time?
Episode 224 – Djungarian’s Halloween
As a special Halloween treat, the Djungarians are invited by Lazuli! They fit right in!
Hamtaro and Oxnard end up on the Djunglebell Island, where they are training in order to participate in the Ham-Ham Games.
