adventures of the baby orangutan I saw at the zoo (Aug 2025)
I love her <3
Was it Kaja at the San Diego Zoo?
It was the San Diego zoo; I never got confirmation as to which orangutan I saw, though
Oh it was Kaja. His personality comes through 100% in your drawing (plus he's the only little guy there right now.) The siamang was probably Sela but there's like a 4% chance it was her mom Eloise. Kaja learned to hang from the burlap blanket the way you show in your drawing from his big sister Aisha.
Well if he's the only one there, I suppose it must have been him. (also I realize I misgendered him-- whoops 00; ) That's cool to hear that the burlap thing is a family thing. I do remember seeing an older orangutan nearby; I wonder if that was Aisha?
I haven't been to San Diego in a while; I'm hoping to be able to go back over the summer and see Kaja and Sela and their families again
If it was a trim young female orangutan it was Aisha, if it was a slightly round lady then it was Karen. His mom can usually be found sitting in her hammock up high. The last orangutan is Labu, the teenage boy who moved here last year but Kaja just started warming up to him recently so you probably wouldn't have seen the two of them together last August. You can always watch them on the San Diego Zoo ape live cam so you can keep up with them!
