If the other wards didn’t know that Halt chose Will....
HARVEST DAY WOULD HAVE GONE LIKE THIS!
Jenny invites the other three to meet up on Harvest Day, and she wants to invite Will, but she doesn’t know where the Baron sent him after Choosing day. She goes up to Baron Arald and gives him a letter. She asks if there is any way to get it to Will, and explains that she wants to meet up with her former Wardmates on Harvest Day.
The Baron, slightly confused as to why Jenny is talking about Will as if he’s in some place she can’t get to him, promises her he’ll make sure the letter is given to Will. She leaves, and he reasons that she was simply nervous to approach Ranger, as she - like Will had at first - believed him to have magic powers.
Week or two later at the Festival Will, realizing that his friends don’t know he’s training and living with Halt, decides to spy on them. Horace, who is in a good mood because of Jenny’s pies and the apparent lack of Will, gets annoyed when Alyss makes a comment how she wish’s Will was there to share the special occasion with them.
“It’s his only fault for being so useless. Should have just said he wanted to work in the fields, it would have spared himself the embarrassment. I mean we all knew that’s where he’d end up.”
Will, thoroughly annoyed with that statement, drops down silently and stands right behind Horace.
“You should be careful when you speak. You never know who is listening.” The others all scream.
