Kia ora! I'm MJ (he/him), and I guess it's probably time I pinned one of these suckers.

I fairly regularly do tumblr prompt drabbles/double drabbles/five sentence fics here that didn’t find their way to AO3, as well as sharing snippets of upcoming fics and similar: you can find all of those under the kiwiana-writes tag. I try to share something for WIP Wednesdays and Six(ish) Sentence Sundays, but I'm an ADHD chaos demon with literally dozens of WIPs on the go at any given time, so it's always a tossup to see what I'll be sharing. I've recently gotten my shit together and started tagging WIPs, so if you see a snippet that you like, you should in theory be able to find any other pieces of that fic I've already shared. At least since like… November 2023 when I finally started doing that 😅 I also do bookbinds/fanbinds if you're into that!

Customisable Binder Pattern now up on Ko-Fi!

I wanted to get at least one digital option up on my Ko-Fi fundraiser for top surgery, because international shipping is a nightmare. And I'm really excited to have added a fully customisable binder sewing pattern to the store!

Standard binders often fail those of us who fall outside off-the-rack sizing. Purchasing this pattern will grant you access to an app that calculates and generates a sewing pattern specifically to your measurements, as well as sewing instructions (including some guidance on what fabric to use). You can choose from centimetres or inches, and can download the pattern in A4 or US Letter sizing with guides on where to tape pages together to form a complete pattern.

Please note: while the actual sewing of this pattern is pretty basic, my instructions are also fairly basic; I never "officially" learned to sew, I learned at my grandmother's knee! So some degree of familiarity with sewing would be helpful before purchasing, I think. If you want to change the parts of the pattern that aren't managed through the calculator (mainly the neckline and shoulder strap widths), it will be useful to have a bit of an idea of how sewing patterns work. However, you can work it out with a bit of trial and error if you need to!

First fic game

Like those before me, if it's not on my current AO3 account I'm not including it. There *are* earlier ones out there, but I'm simply not that pressed about them.

Will this remind me how to write? Probably not, but we persevere. In order of most fics written for the fandom to least fics written for the fandom:

Schitt's Creek: Try and Catch the Wind (David/Patrick, rated M, 5077 words)

I... genuinely don't know when I last reread this so this was a bit of a blast from the past. I, like many people, binged Schitt's Creek in nine days during quarantine and it activated my fanfic mode that had been dormant for close to a decade by that point like a fucking sleeper agent. I wrote this in like a two hour fugue state and I'm pretty sure I had to reset my AO3 password to post it lmfao. I didn't expect to get such a warm welcome from the fandom and I DEFINITELY didn't expect to write 180 fics for it over the next two years lmfao. There is so little dialogue in this fic, which is wild considering that dialogue is what people keep telling me I'm good at hahaha.

Red White & Royal Blue: We were supposed to find this (Alex/Henry, rated M, 3384 words)

Hilarious that my first fics in fandoms that I'm eventually Known For Smut in keep being M-rated lmfao. Baby's first soulmate (solemate...) fic! I'm actually still really fucking fond of this one tbh, I love a good canon-adjacent fic.

The Pairing: Steep my senses in forgetfulness (Theo/Kit, rated G, 416 words)

Not only *my* first fic for the fandom, but the first fic for the fandom full stop! The things I do for VoiceTeam lmfao.

Happiest Season: We always walked a very thin line (Abby/Riley, rated T, 2775 words)

The fic I rage-wrote in three hours after leaving the cinema, and that to this day is still the highest-kudosed work in the fandom. Abby SHOULD have ended up with Riley, goddammit. Also, it's hilarious watching the kudos start coming in for this fic again every Christmastime when people go "ooooh let's watch this Christmas film" and then, like me, are filled with ire.

The Last of Us: We knew we were the fortunate ones (Bill/Frank, rated E, 2294 words)

Lowkey one of my favourite fics, actually. Whomst amongst us wasn't filled with Big Fucking Feelings by s01e03? Also a chance to use a line from one of my favourite bands as a title, because it really is one of the most beautiful songs about the end of the world ever written.

Cendrillon ou La petite Pantoufle de Verre | Cinderella: Someday your rainbow will come smiling through (Cinderella/Cinderella's Prince, rated G, 3108 words)

I mean yeah, obviously. I can still make myself cry with trans guy Cinderella and I'm not ashamed of that lol. How embarrassing to be the people who rejected this for a fairytale anthology because it's amazing!!!!!
