Pretty Woman is on. I love this movie. I really do. But I think my problem is: When the 6 days end and Edward wants Vivian to be his pampered live-in girlfriend...and she turns him down because ‘she wants the fairy tale!’

‘It will get you off the streets!’  

‘That’s just a matter of geography.’ 

I mean, I get the point. Vivian is empowered now. She wants to go back to school. Good for her. 

But it’s such a naive thing to say. Particularly from a sex worker in ‘90s LA.

And one who has just seen the body of a murdered girl literally dumped in the trash.

It never ceases to amaze me how something can hold so much ugliness and beauty at the same time. Sometimes the place I thought to be the safest also become the place that makes no sense and constantly breaks the things I believe in. Slowly learning to believe in new, different things from now on is difficult, but perhaps it gets easier with time.
