A string map of the London Underground created by Dan Coffey with a making-of video here.
I love the idea of using string to make a map. It can readily be added to or changed and still have the end product look amazing. One of my favourite things that is often in crime TV shows/ movies is the use of red string to create mind maps or relationships and links between objects in a brainstorm. Pinning notes and pictures to the backing board provides detail, while visually, the focus is still on the string map.

Here is my video of “Made by the River” off of my debut EP “Caves”. Done with the extremely talented Narika Mckenzie and Sara Mackay. Hope you dig. Feel free to share around/ reblog etc..

Here is the five final artworks and the map location of the area.
Artworks:
- rock crab
- oyster water color diagram
- polluted rainbow
- fishing wire spiderweb
- oyster typography
i am really happy how these turned out. i feel as though they are all fairly different and unique but still resinate the same theme of the location i aimed to portray
What is a mark?
Marks are the physical or visible changes, differences and alteration around us. Some are purposely placed by individuals, or a result of natural events. some marks are accidental, yet all become a unique part of their surrounding location. It is ultimately the evidence and presence of life, reaction and movement.
What can marks in an around the site inform us about the place
The marks in a site are what give us evidence to show us what has happend, showing us history, or be symptoms of the present showing what is happening in the now. My representations of the site refer alot about the small, local fauna as well as forms of pollution in the area. the marks i chose to represent inform others about some of the issues of pollution in the area and the wildlife it could affect. i also aimed to show the beauty in the natural features of the environment there, even if it was through crabs and oysters.
