i think stories without a romantic subplot are so important actually because i didnāt even realize how much internalized aphobia i had rolling around in there until i saw ryland grace be genuinely happy and fulfilled by platonic relationships
Zhejiang, China
i donāt think a lot of people understand how important it is to me that Ryland Grace, the main character from a popular book and movie, being commonly headcanoned as aroace with little to no romance involved. his relation to rocky as a companion and best friend is the relationship that people talk about the most. the power of friendship saved the day with no unnecessary b-plot romance. local man loved humanity and his alien best friend so much he saved both of their galaxies and planets. thatās so awesome, sometimes iād never thought iād see something like this

can everyone start writing fic about the hyperniche ship only i'm interested in. please.
the dichotomy between the "immigrant" (someone from the global south who moves to the north) and the "expat" (someone from the global north who moves to the south) makes me feel fucking crazy. a white person who moves to asia is an expat but an asian who moves to the west is an immigrant. & how those terms are politicized and assigned class statuses, like the word "immigrant" tends to imply a blue collar worker (even if that isn't the case) while "expat" implies a white collar worker. the associations with "expat neighbourhoods" in asian countries is very very different from those of "immigrant neighbourhoods" in western nations. also how "immigrants" who dont assimilate are seen as "failing" and bad, lower class, a burden on society, etc. whereas "expats" not assimilating into local culture is expected and viewed as a sign of their higher status. the double standards are so insane
so fucking humbling to be like āno I like that character a normal amountā and then you can literally feel your heart rate spike at a mention of them like a dog that just heard the word ātreatā

āIt just means you have to work double as hard as most people!ā
Well maybe I donāt WANT to work double as hard as abled people!! Maybe I deserve a BREAK!! Maybe Iāve been working MORE THAN double as hard for MY WHOLE LIFE and itās led me to immense burnout & caused me to develop several MORE disabilities!! Maybe I should be ACCOMMODATED so I donāt have to KILL MY BODY AND BRAIN over trying to do what abled people can do!! Maybe I DONāT have to work double as hard!! Maybe if thereās the option to let me NOT work double as hard, I should have it, because Iām already working double as hard JUST TO SURVIVE!!
Why do you think disabled people deserve less rest than mentally & physically abled people?
Reblog this and tell me what was your biggest crying over a piece of fiction. You can be vague if you don't want to spoil.
