Harrow is the kind of city people choose.

It sits where the coastline opens into a wide natural harbor, the kind of place that makes people pull over just to look. There are steep sea cliffs to the north, old forest crowding in from the east, and a waterfront that somehow manages to be both working and beautiful at the same time. The fishing industry never really collapsed here the way it did in other Oregon towns. Harrow adjusted.

It always does.

The city itself holds around thirty thousand people and more than enough to keep them there. Restaurants that end up in magazines. A town council other places quietly compare themselves to. The schools are good. The crime rates are low. People care about how things look here, how things run. That kind of pride does not just happen.

None of this is accidental.

It rains more often than it doesn’t, and that rain has a way of softening everything. Sound doesn’t carry the same. Streets empty out earlier. Conversations stay low, tucked under awnings and behind closed doors. The harbor stays open year-round. The rivers stay cold and full as they cut down from the mountains. Tide pools gather along the cliffs, pulling in researchers and tourists in equal measure.

The city is quieter because of it.

Quieter than it should be.

To most residents, Harrow is exactly what it looks like. Stable. Successful. Easy, in the way routine always feels easy. They live their lives without asking too many questions.

(They don't talk about the councilwoman who has not aged in decades.

They don’t talk about the families who never seem to die.

They don’t talk about the bones that keep turning up along the shoreline, picked clean like something was very, very thorough.)

Those things do not happen in a place like Harrow.

They do not happen anywhere people are paying attention.

And no one here is looking that closely.

Because the truth is, the supernatural is not hiding in Harrow. It never has been. It is woven into the city itself, settled into its systems and routines so deeply that no one thinks to question it. It sits on committees and boards and behind office doors with the lights still on late into the night. It signs permits. It approves budgets. It decides what stays and what quietly disappears.

And in a place this quiet, where the rain dulls every edge and keeps people looking down instead of around, that kind of control goes unnoticed.

That kind of control lasts.

Until something breaks it.

so hear me out: roleplaying is a collaborative effort that relies on improv to move a story forward and A LOT of yall are NOT ready to admit how painfully unwilling you are to improv/adjust/adapt. both in the indie and the rpg scene a lot of yall are so mfing rigid when it comes to your vision and allow room for NO (or very, very minimal) improv to happen and thats literally so boring ????!!?? like, who would want to write in a space/setting they dont feel welcome to explore their muse ???????

if you want to write something so specific, where both muses (not just yours) are true to what you want/like/envision thats perfectly fine but i fear the rpc is not for you. i kindly suggest you get into ao3 and give writing fanfics a try, that way theres no room for improv, for another mun/partner to add to the story in a way you might not like/might not know how to adjust or adapt, and you can write on your own in your perfect little echo chamber world and have the story move in a direction that’s satisfactory to you without having to make it an awful experience for other players who just want to come online and play barbies online for fcks sake.

just be honest with yourself and do some creative writing on your own if you cannot adjust/adapt/improv as you should in the rpc. / tldr; allow your rp partners to add to the story, explore their muses, make it fun/weird/uncomfortable for yours, allow your own muse to grow through these scenarios, explore different sides of the plot and have ! fun ! we ! are ! literally ! adults ! playing ! digital ! barbies ! at ! the ! end ! of ! a ! very ! long ! work ! day !!!!!!!

I want - no, I need more long term, in depth ships. The kind of ships that I can’t stop thinking about. That have a real chokehold on you as an rper. Really thought out, headcanoned and plotted ships. Where we obsess over them endlessly. Go back and forth and stay up late just to read one or two more replies. Where you can get so attached to the characters involved that you can feel what they’re feeling, the good, the bad, the ugly. The kind of ships that really make the RP experience. The ones we can really develop, see grow over the months, have long angsty threads of, but also short fluffy or smutty ones as well. Or where we can post a random one liner just to mix things up here and there! Yeah, I need more ships like that. So please, like… message… send a carrier pigeon... doesn’t matter! Because as the great t.swif.t once said… it’s a need.
