So you want to lift from Michaels...
As a (finally) former Replenishment Associate/Sales Associate/Head Cashier of the highest shrink Michael’s Arts & Crafts in our district, here is everything you need to know and probably more:
Our store didn’t even have towers.
If our Instax Mini’s (which are locked up) or film (which are behind little red locks that you can use a magnet on) were source tagged, nothing would beep.
Choose your time of day wisely.
Of course, weekend nights are a lot busier and our store in particular, for whatever reason, was always understaffed. There would be 1 Framer, 1-2 SA, 1 Cashier, 1 MOD. Mid-day always has the most associates.
I recommend the morning: it’s slow, we’re trying to get our own projects done, we’re probably still sleepy.
I do not recommend before closing, as all of the employees are running around the store trying to get shit done so we can go home.
Our Copic markers are at the front in the queue line and our Prismacolor stuff is in our Fine Arts section, both of which are heavily monitored. This brings me to:
Our cameras (that actually record and can be rewound in store) don’t pan around and zoom.
Sections recorded: entrance, front registers, jewelry, fine art, receiving (”the back”/employees only), stickers, cash office.
No one is actively watching the camera monitors. If we’re bored and lazy, we’ll sit and watch, and it’s somehow hypnotizing.
I recommend concealing while walking along the outermost walls of the store, basket aisle, clearance aisle, seasonal, and if you’re ballsy- the classroom.
Don’t go to the bathroom, at least ours is next to the frame shop, aka someone gon’ see you walk in with merch.
We find empty boxes all the time. We don’t ever look more into it.
The empty box goes in receiving to get damaged out and thrown away. Ditch em in the clearance aisles if they’re too bulky.
No designated LP person. I used to joke with customers that I was LP and I don’t feel like tackling you today, but really. In all of the time I was there, we had ONE LP guy come in to creep on us and customers.
I’ve sat in the office and watched a woman rip pegs off the wall, dump a wall of strung beads into her bag, and leave the store in less than 2 minutes. We were more impressed than anything tbh.
We cannot confront you, even if we watched you put it in your bag.
We can only customer service you to death and be mildly passive aggressive.
We won’t chase you down, but the MOD will fill out a report if you were seen on camera.
***If you are caught on camera, a screen cap of you and description of the incident will be emailed to every store in the district.
Park further away y’all.
Our parking lot was shared with four other stores (the “mall” was an outdoor shopping center)
When I first started working there, my manager told me to park within 8 spots from the front because that was the limit of the cameras.
Returns/Exchanges
So you lifted something from a different store and Michaels carries the exact same one…
If you return something without a receipt, we will give you the lowest price the item has been in the past 90 days, in store credit.
We also need a valid driver’s license so the (national) system will track how often you do non-receipted returns.
If you go up to the register with random, high value items in a non-receipted return transaction (like one expensive brush, one expensive tube of paint, and a pair of jewelry pliers all at once), we have to call an MOD.
If your total refund for a non-receipted return purchase is over $100, the system will prompt for a manager override.
Cash and debit receipted return transactions will be refunded as cash. I had a coworker who would keep these receipts from people who wanted them thrown out, do the return himself, and pocket the cash.
If, for whatever reason, you have a fake traveler’s check, try cashing it in here.
Because we do them so infrequently, I had a manager take it for me, and it turned out she took an apparently fake traveler’s check and didn’t even know.
However, pls don’t use counterfeit bills here. If we get too many in X amount of time, the Operations Manager will get fired.
So you actually want to buy something?
Still apprehensive to conceal in your bag? We are supposed to look to make sure you’ve got all of the items out of the buggy, we are supposed to look inside baskets and boxes, and underneath the liner of baskets. Conceal little items underneath your bag, that is sitting in the child seat of the cart.
50% one regular priced item (with exclusions): 400100719008 is the barcode number. You can ask the cashier to type this in, in “item entry.” It will always work, regardless of what coupon is out that week,
Our employee discount is 30% off your purchase, including sale items (with exclusions): 400100451588.
Is the line too long and the framing counter is open? Be really nice and you can check out there.
Pls be nice to the cashier and don’t ask to make eight separate transactions for eight of the same coupon with the same method of payment. While lifting doesn’t directly affect my paycheck, this coupon policy abuse shit does. if the store doesn’t meet projected goals, we get less hours, which means I have less money to put in my gas tank.
Am I missing something? Ask!
Cheers to my first post after creeping the community for a week, but lifting for like 8 years. Be safe shrimps.
amazing
also why does nobody else share employee discount coupon codes, cmon ladies, get your shit together
tips from a former dsw employee
• you gotta be chill. if the sa swings by (which is required of them, chat up everyone in the section) speak with them briefly, even just the niceties. ignoring them tips off.
• unless it’s peak days (fri - sun) there’s generally only one person per section, except for clearance they usually have 2. men’s shoes&athletics are usually one section. then whatever’s the seasonal shoe (boots, sandals, etc). then regular stock (keds, sketchers, vans, comfy stuff) and women’s dress shoes. accessories generally are manned by anyone who happens to see someone in the section
• there’s generally an MOD and then another one of the managers will be floating around too.
• we definitely use those walkies to talk about suspicious characters.
•there aren’t many cameras, but they are there. cash wrap, hall to the bathroom, and one of the clearance corners are the ones i can remember rn from my store.
• i’ve seen a lot of people say to go to the clearance section to lift - i don’t recommend it. we’re trained to service the crap out of people back there because WE KNOW that’s where ya go!
• most athletic shoes are tagged, as well as our high end heels and “prom” shoes
• best way to lift, be the great customer. try on 4 or 5 pairs of shoes. pull the paper out try them on completely. have the boxes spread around you. when there are no other customers in the aisle & no sa’s, slip the pair you want into your bag. then clean everything up and put the boxes back approximately where they should be. if everything is left out, we’re gonna remember that bitch who made a massive mess.
• pro tip: put one of the smokescreen pairs on hold under a fake name. then you look way less suspicious.
• more often than not, if a column of boxes looks tidy, we don’t mess with it. closing is on a tight schedule and the stores are BIG.
• the sa’s aren’t allowed to confront you or accuse you. all we can do is call the police/mall security and try and keep you in the store.
•will add more to this as i’m remembering it
ahhhh finally dsw tips. thank you 😘
are their any managers that stay in the back to watch the cameras actively? or do they just record?
I think I’m going to go get shoes today. I desperately need some. And I had no idea this store existed in Canada too. I need to check this out. Shoes are my favourite item of all but seem impossible for me to steal.
Lifter Alert: You Are Being Tracked
I just read some articles on some new technology some stores are using to track people in their store and across entire malls. I could get into technicalities, but the baseline of it is that stores are using your phone’s wifi pings to get information about your searches, personal info, and most alarmingly, an address specific to your phone. This system is not only able to accurately track where you are in the store live, but is also able to tell if you’ve visted the store before, how often, how long ago, and which areas you’ve visited most often.
This system of tracking is not only an exposure of privacy for shoppers, but also dangerous for lifters. The solution most people reccommend in response is to completely disable wifi, though I would personally take it safe and just turn on airplane mode while I lift. The idea of being so precisely tracked is scary, and luckily only a few stores, mostly high end like Marks and Spencers, but also casual places like Topshop have this tracking system so far.
Be aware and stay safe everyone!
Signal boost 🚨🚨🚨
Omg definitely turning on airplane mode in every shop I go
Fucking hell thats scary shit😬
🧬 Investigations explained 📭
If a company says it’s “doing an investigation,” this is what they mean.
An investigation is just when a company files a report with the courier that someone claimed the package was never delivered/empty/whatever
The courier will respond “yes, we did deliver the package, here’s our proof”
Proof can include a photo, weight, tracking, signature, etc. Every piece of info they have on the package they will send to the company as proof it was delivered on their end. (all investigations will come back failed)
However, it is completely up to the company whether or not they want to use this info to withhold a refund.
Companies with good policies will refund you. They know you are likely lying. BUT since the investigation doesn’t 100% prove that it wasn’t mishandled or stolen by the courier, there is possibility for refund.
The courier will take note every time an investigation is filed and it will count as a tally against your address and may lead to being blacklisted by them.
Investigations aren’t the worst thing in the world, but try not to trigger too many in a short period. Keep track of which couriers are coming to your house
So if you wanna dñæ from a store that you haven’t heard anyone try them yet and ur not sure how its gonna go..
I saw this website called TRUST PILOT that people tend to share their experiences with the stores websites...and on each comment you can actually see the country its from and you can just tap the word refund so it shows all their refund experiences whether good or bad!!!
For some of the websites i actually found some useful information about how the customer service treats ppl after their items did not arrive/but delivered...
So you just search any store name+trust pilot and ur gucci😗

DNAing, or scamming!
-DNA: Did not arrive.
It’s really easy to DNA stuff online. Just email or live chat (i prefer livechat) the company and say that you never received the product, and that you were really excited to get it/disappointed it never came.
For Ämäzön, Wälmärt, Ültä, Tärgët, etc, it’s best to have an active account with actual purchases on there. Even after your scam, buy cheap things once in a while so you can scam again. I’ve done that with Tärgët & have scammed over $400 in items on the same account (with like 10 legitimate purchases).
Here’s a list of stores I’ve scammed and their protocol, & the amount I scammed:

As I always tell you guys, I’ll be updating this list as I scam more stores! If you know any feel free to lmk!
NOTE: new stores have a ~ instead of a - !!!
since i really only lift from grocery stores these days i feel like i should make a do’s and dont’s post! ofc these experiences won’t be universal, but i feel like this should help a lot
from easiest to hardest: -medium-sized local chain grocery stores. these (in my experience) don’t have good cams or have no cams at all, they’re often busy, and there’s no LP and the SA are underpaid college students -wh0le f00ds. easy for crowd concealing, lots of blinds in the canned foods and fresh produce aisles -big chain grocery stores. i lowkey like avoiding these honestly, they just make me a little bit uncomfortable -vegan grocery stores other than WF… these are fucking insane especially gr@cefully which has literally 5 cameras per aisle and a giant board at the front w live surveillance
do: -conceal in pet food, towels and cleaning supplies, or canned foods -act like you’re in a hurry. it’s not weird to be a little dismissive of SAs at grocery stores; there’s a lot of moms in a hurry -use reusable bags especially at whole foods! -get comfortable with crowd concealing -one thing i like to do is bring a shopping list on a piece of thick white paper, and then do basically the behind-the-phone conceal or fold the list in half over the thing. excellent for lifting chocolate bars!!! -if ur store has the exit past the checkout, walk out casually but in a rush, maybe pretend to text someone
don’t: -conceal near alcohol, candy, makeup/body products, or the deli counter; this should be obvious -wander around unless you’re also putting stuff in a cart. this aint sephora u cant swatch goldfish crackers youve got no excuse to walk around empty handed -lift wine at stores with towers -conceal when anyone else is near you. moms with kids are fucking awful about Enforcing Morals, and workers don’t always wear uniforms -do the walkout method at a store with one checkout -talk to the workers/fake a loud phone call/stuff that you might do not to be sussed at a clothes store. it generally has the opposite effect
“this aint sephora u cant swatch goldfish crackers” IM SCREAMING
this is the shoplifting cat reblog and good lifting luck will come ur way
ridiculous long list of collected tips.
michael’s -no chase policy -cameras above the doors and registers -blind spots: knitting/embroidering, woodcrafts, paints, plants; avoid other customers -nothing is tagged -dress niceish -best if you go by yourself -go either an hour or two after opening or closing
victoria’s secret -no lp -bras are tagged, panties are not -no chase policy
terrible companies -too faced -lush -the body shop -urban outfitters -american apparel -whole foods -trader joe’s
starbucks -four cameras: over the door, over the safe, over the register & over the manager’s desk in the back. manager’s don’t have access to the camera footage; they can only access it after an ‘incident’ has occurred -no chase policy -watch out for other customers -bagged coffee and mugs make nice presents and are only inventoried once a month. -nothing is tagged -the fridge with juices and salads cannot be seen from the barista side of the counter. baristas not held liable for it -instant coffees are pretty good and there are cute mugs around christmas -don’t be a scumbag and steal from the tip jar jfc
general -double-check for secutiry tags -sensors inside cardboard tags in clothing -just double-check everything -if you’re lifting all day with your car, keep an empty gym bag in your backseat and dump stuff there in between stores -if the barcode is printed on the product and it is not a sticker, it won’t go off! -if you can, detag/conceal/etc in the men’s dressing room -bring your signifcant other and kiss them passionately if an SA is looking at you -grab two of everything you want - steal one and keep the other in the basket -be confident -don’t get cocky -be careful -if it feels wrong, put it back -browse openly -scope out the places beforehand -the umbrella method: close the umbrella most of the way and drop small items in it (pracitce at home!) -dress like a rich snobby white kid: skinny jeans with boots and a north face & infinity scarf
sephora -never just go in, lift and leave -look around and test out shades. have a question about stuff you’re looking at ready. -test everything. look interested in makeup and new to high end stuff -carry a bag from somewhere else that’s deep enough to shut at the top; ex. forever 21 bags -have a smaller purse and have like a hat or a pair of gloves or something (in the winter) that you can shuffle around in the bag so if an SA spots you mid-conceal or comes around a corner, etc, you can grab your gloves/hat/etc and put them on like you’re getting ready to leave the mall -listen to SA’s on their headsets. if you hear “so and so needs a bag”, drop and run -never lift from a jc penney sephora -if you lift from sephora and feel weird after, go to a place young people usually don’t go. then leave super hard. -it helps to be carrying something expensive with you, or wearing it. look expensive. have expensive taste. -if an SA asks you what you’re wearing for makeup now, always say something expensive. “nars sheer glow and a little bareMinerals powder” works for me. fake expensive taste. -don’t wear headphones. -don’t wear a beanie. -wear lipstick in a noticeable shade. wearing a bright bold lip will make it look you know what you’re doing. if you don’t, go in on a day you won’t be lifing and ask for a tutorial on how to do a lip. -wear heels. youll look classier. -take pictures of things. if an SA shows you an item, take a picture; you’ll look genuinely interested. -if you’re about to leave but feel like someone is onto you, stop and play with a foundation. ask for help finding your shade and ask for a sample. the whole process takes a really long time. act sincerely interested. talk about your current foundation (use an expensive one) and say it breaks you out a bit or dries you out. make it sound worse. have a whole conversation. -when leaving, do not look around at other people. do not. go from looking at a product, checking your phone/the time, then leave. this works well. fake a phone call! say “yeah, i’m just in sephora, i’m leaving in two seconds. where did you want to meet? okay! see you soon.” mentioning the store is pretty helpful. -be really nice.
ulta -some ultas use soft RFID tags on their palettes/expensive items -if there are no blind spots, you can make one by facing the opposite way of the camera, or standing behind a partner -wear something fashionable. do your makeup well. break out your brand-name items… look expensive. look like you can buy that whole store if you wanted to. -bring a big bag; one that has structure so that SAs can’t tell if it’s full or not. lots of lifters like the Michael Kors Jet Set or Selma tote. -walk in; if you’re greeted say hello and smile back -grab an ulta shopping bag. place it in the crook of your elbow. leave your purse up by your shoulder until you can get to a blind spot. -test stuff! -put some stuff in your ulta bag! try putting two of the things you want so it’s not as sus. fill it up with items so it won’t be as noticeable on camera. -find your blind spot and move your purse to the crook of your elbow. conceal. don’t linger. -put the stuff you don’t want back! -if you have a bad feeling, ditch and go -perfumes are super tagged don’t even think about it -don’t park anywhere near it so they can’t track your plates after you leave, just in case -best time: weekday evenings and weekend afternoons -go to prestige and take like one minute, then pick out some random item, then get a shopping bag so it looks like you actually want things -have a question ready, ask for a product they don’t have -blind spots: high-end skincare aisle, low-end haircare aisle, clearance? -do your best to look nice and cute! confidence is key -if you’re not getting good vibes, it’s okay to leave!
old navy -nothing is tagged and there are no cameras??? -dressing rooms aren’t monitored
groceries -go to the biggest 24/7 grocery store and scope it out at like 3-4 am -get a small cart with 2 layers and put two big reusable grocery bags there, open. put your groceries in there while you shop. then just walk out -it’s important that you scope it out before actually going. make sure nobody is stationed at the doors at all times. -if you’re nervous and there’s nobody at the door, walk out looking at an old receipt like you’re looking at how much you spent or the taxes or whatever
urban outfitters -find a store that gives out large paper bags with those stringy handles. ask for a couple for a project on ‘branding’ or something. fill up like a quarter of the space to make it look normal. -there are magnet sensors -little items like books, home accessories, and jewelry can be carried in your hands; find a spot where no one can see you and just stuff what you want into your bag. corners are always good
lush -blindspot in the back of the store with the foot scrubs
for specific things -amiibos aren’t tagged -lift more cotton panties because all that polyester shit ain’t good for your lil gnome garden (via liftinglily)
office depot -nothing is tagged -nobody cares -cute stationary
gap -dressing rooms aren’t monitored -only some things are tagged
icing -no tags
claire’s -fake tags/no tags
sally’s beauty supply -no cameras -no-chase policy -between 5 and 8pm is your best shot -an hour or so after they open is the best time to lift something large; another person doesn’t come in until 10:30 or 11:00
lifting bag -large structured bag so that you can’t tell when it’s full or not
hot topic -the corners are good -bracelets are probably tagged
pier 1 -nothing is tagged -cameras are to monitor employee theft -nice candles, jewelry, scarves, stationary and trinkets
barnes & noble -cameras in toys/collectibles, the music/dvds, comics, the gift card/accessories area, and the sitting/reading area -good blond spot: classic lit -books are tagged sporadically -get a cup of coffee!!
–> message me if you have any corrections or anything!
Great tips! Thanks for putting it together!
So glad I just saw this lmao
Just need to add that the tips about Michaels are almost opposite of what it’s like near me. The tips are 100% wrong. I love these lists, but I definitely take them with a grain of salt.
has anyone done a dńä on bãrñêś & ń0bł£? if so, was the êxper!ence easy? i need to get some @lbums and m@nga for my friend’s bday since i’m so niceee
Info on LP and Return Policies
Again, not mine (source), but super helpful. I honestly believe that lifters should be reading every single piece of advice possible. With a grain of salt of course, but really… we need all the advice we can get lol.
