Can you have a normal fictional crush for once?
No, next question
The BEST trope is when a character tells another “let’s run away together, we can leave all of this behind and start a new life somewhere” and gets rejected. And then the rest of the tragedy unfolds
shes so silly ignore the murder
Loving a fictional character is like marriage
You fall for the character, become obsessed with them to the point where you think that they're the only fictional character you've ever loved, like if they were real, you'd marry them in a heart beat
Then you fall for a new fictional character while still being obsessed with the current one, it feels like an affair, but you accidentally became too obsessed with the new one, so you start to ignore the current one slowly, until you completely ignore them, and start to focus on the new one, falling for them now, it's like divorce and remarriage
The cycle continues until you have at least 10 fictional characters
Then you remember your previous fictional crush that you were obsessed with 2 years ago, and then you fall for them again, and become obsessed with them like you used to, it's like falling in love and marrying your ex-spouse again
And then you break-up
And the cycle continues like this, FOREVER
omg, look at him, he's so precious, he's so cute, my perfect baby *proceeds to show you a man more than twice my age that regularly commits atrocities*
my personal hell, but there are no fiery pits, just the sanitization of characters, people bending over backwards to excuse negative traits, justify wrongdoings, and water down flaws to make characters fit into a box they deem likeable, erasing the defining characteristics that made the characters interesting to begin with.
*putting my blorbo's crimes on my fridge with a heart-shaped magnet* beautiful
i hate when people are like “yeah hes hot but hes also evil so i cant like him. 💔” like babe thats literally the best part
Me when I see a picture of ✨The Character™✨:
elsa might be the rezero character of all time. she shows up as the villain of the first arc and she keeps being important to the story even after her death in the 4th. everywhere you look there she is. but shes not even, like, "important" as far as lore and history goes. shes not a witch or archbishop or anything, shes just a really cunty assassin who keeps being relevant somehow. haunting the narrative without even being that significant in the grand scheme of things
but i like that she mattered. it wouldve been really obvious to just have her be a throwaway obstacle for arcs 1+4 (just to have continuity) but she wasnt that! she was a person, someone who had a history, who knew people, whos life and death would cause somekind of affect on the world around her. its stuff like that, that makes the world of the story feel real, like theres always a lot of moving pieces. not just npcs and the main character
elsa rezero is also so funny because, like, shes a crazy person, but shes crazy in such a normal way compared to the rest of the antagonists. all the witches and archbishops are out of their minds through such borderline incomprehensible logic that elsa seems normal. she just kills people. its crazy but pretty uncomplicated
any villain born after 2012 can't big bad... all they know is twist reveal , get shipped on tumblr, reform, be comic relief , have sad backstory & lie.
You know I never really thought about it before, but the arc 4 emisuba convo in the sanctuary parallels the arc 6 convo in the watchtower.
In arc 4, Emilia Is breaking down because she doesn't know who she will be once she regains her repressed memories.
In arc 6, Subaru is breaking down because he doesn't know who he is, now that he's lost his memories.
Emilia knew how to help the same way he helped her, reminding Subaru that he will be loved either way
I just caught up w/ the new season of Re:Zero and thought I'd draw my fav char from season one we love geuse
Cinematic parallels
I love villains that are the reverse of the idea that the absence of love makes you evil. Villains that love to the point of paranoia and obsession. Villains whose love for someone corrupts them. Love being used for awful, evil things. Using love to justify horrific actions. Anything that breaks down the toxic idea that people who don’t feel love are monsters and those who feel love are always pure and heroic and morally right.
