Anas has gastric cancer.
Anas (@dr-anas96) is severely suicidal and is dying on the inside in every sense of the word. Mentally he feels his life is over, and physically he's barely moving anymore, only occasionally coming to consciousness and vomiting blood.
I'm begging you from the bottom of my heart not to let my friend die. This entire time, during this genocide he's living through, he's been:
Supporting his elderly parents find shelter through the collapse of their tent.
Supporting the children of Gaza by cheering them up through drawing and acting and other activities, as well as teaching them survival skills.
Corresponding and reinforcing solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, and the Black community.
Being an invaluable friend to many, including me.
Now, with some reprieve for Gazans seemingly so close, he is dying. I don't use this word lightly because I don't want to believe my dear friend is dying. I am only saying it because I have no escape from believing it
But I still have hope that we can carry him through this so he can see the end of this difficult road. I am not giving up on him and I'm begging, begging, begging, begging you all not to give up either. We're so close.

I think the reason that trans tme's have clung to the concept of "male socialization" and "female socialization" as innate influences of trans peoples behavior, is because the idea that they can't be perpetrators of transmisogyny due to their "female socialization" has protected so many of them from being (rightfully) punished for their behavior.
A common idea i see communicated by transfems is that they experience "female socialization" growing up because they are subconsciously clinging to messages being sent to who they want to be, not who they are seen as. And this idea is translated to transmascs and "male socialization" too. You can see in the way a lot of transmascs are actively misogynistic that there's a truth to this theory.
But for some reason, the second a transfem mentions transmisogyny, it's back to "no, you can't be oppressed because you're the oppressor sex and im the oppressed sex" with no consideration of the actual lived experiences of these women. If I were to look a trans man in the face and tell him that he's ACTUALLY a woman, I'd be immediately torn to shreds, but when they imply it to protect themselves and discredit trans women it's fine. Okay.
We experience faggot socialization. Our peers and mentors try to force male socialization on us, and when it inevitably doesn't work we are third gendered, given the "faggot" label and treated with extensive transmisogynistic abuse for our entire lives, with our only choices being masking, enduring, or death. Many of us aren't able to experience female socialization until we become aware that we are trans and start centering our lives around women more. Discrediting us by saying we're male socialized is a cruel, sadistic, and calculated attack that paints our trauma and abuse as beneficial to us. Terfs and transandrophobia truthers should eat glass.
So rn the US government is starting to defund the National Parks Service, and while this is a bad thing largely because it's mainly being done to open up the possibility of oil drilling in a lot of those areas, I think it also needs to be said that no the National Parks Service was not just there to "protect natural wonders" or whatever. It was there because a lot of those places are incredibly important land to a lot of Indigenous Peoples and if you give it special status that means you can't live on it you can make the natives leave easier because they get arrested if they don't. Like I am very much not in favor of this change as it is being done but I don't think we should respond to it with wholehearted praise of the National Parks System either. Please know the history of the land you live on and visit.
The problem here is not that the national parks service is losing funding, it was a tool of ethnic cleansing, forced removal, and genocide from its inception. It deserves to be talked about as such. The problem here is that that land still does not belong to the native people who inhabited it for thousands of years before colonial intervention. We need to protest the area being claimed by companies that want to exploit their natural resources, and get it back in the hands of the people who once and always should've owned it. We should not let things go back to what they were like under the current National Parks System.

It wasn’t completely secret as i had a supportive partner but it was something I kept under wraps from most people since I didn’t want their opinions & felt it easier to come out if I had “proof”. I regret some of it bc it meant I was more isolated & took longer to find community & realize people were not going to be dicks to me. But like we have to have the journeys we have
Honestly you can transition in "secret" and still seek out community, too! I was attending weekly genderqueer discussion group meetings in person while on hormones and not out to anyone else in my regular life. It helped me a ton. I also got help from Chicago's Transformative Justice Legal Project to change my name and documents while not out to anyone. I really am an advocate for the "I wouldn't be telling you if it wasn't too late to stop it. I transitioned nine months ago" coming out process, esp if you are riddled by shame or worry a lot about ppl's approval. it's honestly a baller move that forces ppl to get with the program or fuck off. glad it worked decently for you!
idk thinking about how sometimes you have to show up for people you aren't that close to, because sometimes you're just the person who's there. sometimes you invite a new friend to a party and end up having to sit with them through a panic attack. sometimes you run into an acquaintance on their worst day and they need to talk about what happened. sometimes someone is crying in a stairwell and you're the only one around to ask if they're okay. and none of this is "trauma dumping" or whatever the fuck it's just being there for people because you're the one in the room with them.

I see a lot of people bringing attention to Sam Nordquist's murder, and the fundraiser for his funeral. What he went through was horrible, and I wish he'd experienced this kind of support in life as well. Thank you to the community and our allies for speaking up for him.
Around the same time the news about his murder was breaking, a Black trans woman was also murdered in my neck of the woods. Her name was Tahiry Broom. Her family says she loved making people laugh, that she was full of energy and confidence. She was only 29.
Her murderer called 33 sex workers, several of whom were also trans women. He had no money on him. He intended to rob and/or kill at least one woman that day, who he felt society wouldn't rally for or miss. She was just the woman who fell into that category, for him.
