It's just medicine || Harvey and Mia
This was the last moment she had before it started. Whatever exactly it was. The last moment where she could make a run for it and just end up in isolation for the day. Maybe even two depending on how angry Dr. Young was. So, she had to decided, was she going to make a break for it, or learn to be brave. She chose the brave option. "Close your eyes." Mia did as he said and watched the world blur away into a singular shade of black. Here the colors of the lights that were above her danced about her vision. It was like looking at something too hard and having it imprinted in one’s mind, except she didn’t have to look at the lights for long in order for this to happen. "Just don’t fall asleep." She realized that not only had what he said finally processed in her brain but she also was getting quite tired, so she stopped focusing on the patterns left in her mind from the lights and instead on what he was about to say.
"You are going to listen to my voice and only my voice." So, Mia did, she cancelled out all of the noise from the people in the hallway, and the ticking clock. "My voice doesn’t scare you it’s the only voice you can trust." For a second, Mia hesitated, the word scare popping out at her, but then she listened. She really listened and tried to tune everything else out. Now, she trusted him, more than she could ever will herself to do. "Any voices you hear are your enemies, voices that cannot be trusted, voices you have to ignore." Mia listened and absorbed. She believed it all, with all of her heart. Even her own voice there in her head was tuned out, she didn’t want to listen to it’s will, instead she focused on her doctor’s voice and his alone. Even when he wasn’t speaking it seemed to repeat within her head. An endless void of the same sound.
Thoughts were fading, and so were recognitions. "You are not going to be afraid," She wasn’t going to be afraid. "You are going to trust my voice" She was going to trust his voice. "You should listen to only what I say." She would listen only to what he said. The words kept repeating in her brain, over and over. He continued on as she fell deeper and deeper into a pit of thoughtlessness. "When you are going to open your eyes, you will know nothing but my face, your thoughts will be erased and you will have no memories. You will know only me and you will trust only my voice." Mia now knew nothing of what was around her, she didn’t even think to ponder about it. She new Dr. Young was somewhere, somewhere near her and that’s the only thought that needed to fill her mind. It was the only thought her brain craved to know.
"Open your eyes Mia." She opened her eyelids, and blinked a few times. They still had to get used to the light that was now shining down into her iris’. Then, she turned her head to face Dr. Young. He was the only thing she noticed. Sure, she saw the walls and the desk and the shelves filled with books. But she didn’t really she them. She didn’t think about them, and she didn’t think to think about them. Mia didn’t speak, because she was not asked to. Instead she just sat there looking, mindlessly waiting. She was under his command now and would do nothing without him saying so first.
Mia seemed so lost when she opened her eyes and Harvey didn't know if this is what he wanted. No, no, she isn't lost. She is hypnotized. By saying that, his lips curved into a smile, but now he didn't know what to tell her. He looked into her empty eyes where there was no sign of knowledge, no sign of acquaintances, no sign of persons she missed, no signs of life. It looked like a dark, black hole where she as a person jumped and she seemed to not come back. But Harvey didn't freak out he already knew this was going to happen and this was the easiest part. The easiest part has been done. The most difficult part not only for him, but for all the doctors was getting the patients back. It was easy to lose them, but difficult to take them back especially if they were already lost in their world as Mia was.
He sighed and looked down at the pendulum, trying not to squeeze on it too hard, because it was the only one he had and he couldn't get another one from anywhere. After taking a deep breath from that dull air, he looked at her and back at the pendulum, thinking if he ought to stop. He could bring her back from here, he could make everything okay and let her go like nothing happened. But he was not a coward. He didn't just let the things go away. Harvey looked at Mia and again and he remembered the procedure. He knew what he had to do next and he put the fear somewhere back in his mind.
"Now, I need you to focus on the pendulum" - he said as he put the pendulum in front of her, moving it so slowly that he sometimes thought it wasn't moving. "Don't think of anything else and don't take the eyes off the pendulum" - he continued, his voice being calm, the tone he was using was the one that he used when he was trying to convince people of something. "It won't harm you" He had to take her to the hypnotic world where she would meet her greatest fear, where she would see nothing but what she is afraid of and he would help her get over everything. "It will take you to a new world" - he said moving the pendulum faster. "Don't take your eyes off it".
