obv can’t speak to the mindset of the specific person you’re referring to but i know it’s very common to block on here not because there’s any beef but because it protects, for lack of a better word, your tumblr experience so you don’t see posts for ships/characters/topics you don’t want to see in general tags. and in terms of k*ngdon, a lot of us block people who post about m*ntos and tr*nity (censuring the names so they don’t show up in searches and annoy people) because we get dogpiled in reblogs, replies and anon asks with horrible shit if we even mention tr*nity with nothing negative so blocking also protects people from getting hate. it’s often not personal, just an attempt to stop people who send hate, who might follow you, from seeing our posts
i guess i understand this but i also think if someone is tagging their post in character tags when they are degrading a character (as op was doing with trinity, despite starting the post saying they loved her lol), then it’s fair for people to respond. if you don’t want people to respond that may disagree with you i feel like it’s best to not tag the post? i only saw the post bc i follow mel’s tag and disagreed w it and responded. i would understand if i had been rude or crass but i think blocking someone just bc they disagree with you and say that publicly, also opening myself up to hate and dogpiling, is immature. like every time i reblog a post to disagree with i open myself up to that same thing (and i do often get anons telling me to shut the fuck up or kill myself or whatever) but idkkkk i just think if you don’t want your discourse posts to be engaged with then you shouldn’t tag them. but that’s just me
also mind you i have like 10 followers that are active pitt posters and i promise none of them are gonna be sending anyone anon hate 😭 i am a mel lover first and foremost and i hate garsantos so i dont really have many trinity akgae followers so i promise i am not the one riling any of them up
i thought this was the website for discussion and discourse of tv shows /-: turns out when u wanna discuss or respond to anyone’s discourse that they put in public tags they block you immediately even when you didn’t say anything rude or personal and just discussed the tv show in question lol
i truly do love trinity santos as a character and i am rooting for her to grow beyond her trauma and become the person i know she can be. like, if she can take the empathy and kindness she shows towards children and extend it to both herself and other adults, she will be thriving and i will be so happy for her. i have a huge amount of sympathy for the pain we know she's been through and it's truly impressive that she's as good of a doctor as she is when she's dealing with all that.
but lbr she is not in a healthy enough place to be a good friend to someone like mel right now. to whitaker, who has experience with older brothers and has probably dealt with that kind of familial bullying his entire life to the point where it's just part of his life's landscape? yeah, okay. to victoria, who is learning to stand up for herself and understands sarcasm? maybe. i can see that.
but mel? no. not mel. not right now.
what's going to happen in the immediate future is that she is going to continue to treat mel exactly as she did in season 2. walking away from her when she gets bored with whatever mel is talking about, making jokes that mel finds hurtful or doesn't understand, possibly voicing her own complaints but tuning out when mel wants to talk about hers.
but then turning around and latching onto her when she needs someone.
like, i don't WANT this to be the case. i want her to do the hard work of being a better friend, but i just don't see any evidence in the show that she's going to do that.
season 2 did her a great disservice by basically leaving her spinning her wheels. (as it did for most characters.) at the beginning of the season she's exhausted, overwhelmed, and not dealing with any of her emotional issues well. at the end of the season, she's exhausted, overwhelmed, and not dealing with any of her emotional issues well. she has no arc to speak of; her story goes nowhere, really. isa, of course, did a fantastic job with what she was given, and we got some nice scenes (singing to the baby my beloved), but there was no forward motion for trinity.
she and mel are so different that it would take a large amount of work for her to figure out how to communicate with and support mel, and it doesn't seem like at this moment she's got any incentive to do that work. she didn't hit a bump that made her realize that she's been ostracizing herself in within the e.d. she didn't even take the moment where mel was like, "hey, 2nd year is really hard, i'm here if you want to talk" to heart.
as i said, i think she COULD be a real friend to mel if she did the work. but she hasn't yet, and i'm not sure that the writers are aware of that.
i do think it’s interesting that these are the moments you chose to pick for “if mel and santos relationship looks in s3 like it did in s2, this is what it will look like” and not “if mel and santos relationship looks in s3 like it did in s2 it will look like them working on cases well together, trinity taking direction and guidance from mel well, trinity being the first person who asks mel if she’s doing okay and the first person who tries to make her feel better (even if it falls flat on mel’s end, it was still trinity trying), trinity being willing to speak up for mel about why she was stressed to al-hashimi because it was obvious mel didn’t want to talk about it anymore (and trinity caring enough about her to notice that and do something about it), trinity waiting for mel to leave to take out her anger on whitaker instead of mel because she knows mel doesn’t deserve that even when trinity herself is extremely overwhelmed and wants to lash out, trinity being one of the only people who constantly engages with mel (even if it is sarcastic a lot of the time, that is something about trinity herself and is how she engages with everyone in the hospital, not just mel), and trinity noticing mel was sad and lonely and had no plans after work so deciding to invite her to hang out after work, which mel was obviously very happy about.”
i think there’s also a lot of discussion in the circles of people who don’t care for mentos’ friendship that santos is too sarcastic and that is incompatible for a friendship with mel which i think is absurd for a number of reasons but also: Mel is literally the only person that Santos opened up to and was honest with about her sarcasm being a defense mechanism. Mel knows that when Santos is snappy and sarcastic it’s because she is feeling defensive and that’s her way she protects herself, because Trinity was the one who told her so in season one, and Mel literally thanks her for telling her that. Has Trinity ever opened up about her sarcasm, her defensiveness, and her snappiness to anyone else? No. And it could hypothesized she did it because she understood that Mel didn’t always understand when she was being sarcastic so she wanted to give that explanation.
obviously trinity needs to grow and learn mel better and they need to learn how to communicate better, but mel also needs to grow and learn trinity too. it is growth necessary on both of their ends. but i think to say that trinity wasn’t trying at all to be a friend to mel is a glossing over of like 70% of their s2 scenes together and a hyperfocus on the moments that could be interpreted as trinity being cruel. but even when you do look at those latter moments, trinity is not treating mel any differently than she does robby or whitaker or javadi, who are all people that trinity considers friends/friendly
the term ‘whumptos’ gives me the craziest ick in the world like out of all the characters you want to choose to write stories about getting hurt or harmed or violated so someone can take care of her and the writers and readers can get off on it. sorry to kink shame but like it’s just sooooooo off putting to me. do this with someone else and not her it’s just sooooooo so gross
reiterating my side in the war on whump kink/whumptos in general
the pittlings are the characters whose first day was the pittfest shooting. aka the first day four. the are the babies of the pitt, ie the pittlings. mel, santos, javadi, and whitaker are the pittlings. nobody else is. let’s put this argument to rest now. thank you <3
happy mentos mthursday
