It was an unarmed nuclear Trident II (D5) missile tested somewhere in Pacific Ocean off of the west coast, launched from a submarine. This missile launch test was performed twice; the first one that caught the attention of social media was launched last Saturday night, and the new one that was launched Monday afternoon (yesterday, as of 11/10/2015) got much less attention as it was launched in daylight. The missile can travel 4000 miles and was obviously very high in the atmosphere, hence why it could be seen all the way in Nevada, Mexico, and elsewhere. That “sound” in the video could not have been possible; at that height, even if the sound could be heard, it would have taken several (if not dozens) of seconds to reach the people recording it. There are no other recorded accounts of anyone hearing the missile, to my knowledge. Media sites say the blue streak was produced by the Trident missile’s rocket motor, and it’s also safe to assume that such a visible streak was intentional, both for the purpose of visual data collection (the streak helps show off the trajectory of the missile) and also even to catch the attention of social media, as is exactly what happened.
