I’m sure someone has already discussed this much more in depth than I’m about to, but I’ve just been thinking about how being fat is gendered.

Fat men are feminized with empasis on their perceived softness or lack of dominance (often sizeist mockery of fat cis men focuses on their chests and comparing them to breast tissue in an attempt to emmaculate them). Fat women are masculinized with emphasis on them “taking up space” (often the sizeist mockery of fat cis women focuses on their bellies and physical size comparing them to cis men in an attempt to defeminize them).

In both cases, fatness is perceived as a sort of gender nonconformity which is then punished visciously. I think that’s why fat, visibly LGBT folks face such high rates of interpersonal harassment and abuse.

Even the popular face of non-binary identity is thin, and fat nonbinary people can be mocked and misgendered due to someone gendering their fatness.

I don’t have a concluding point, only that I think sizeism/anti-fatness is closely interrelated with oppressive systems of gender
