god, the way people outside of the community treat audio rp pisses me off sometimes. So many people, when “giving it a chance”, refuse to suspend disbelief for a single second. “Excuse you, I would not say that.” “All I can imagine is that guy sitting in a closet, making out with his mic, or do they kiss their hand?” “Again, I didn’t say that. It’s like you’re not even listening to me.”
It’s a fundamentally different medium which means you treat it differently. You use your imagination to picture the descriptions in a book, you let yourself be fooled by the cgi in movies, you immerse yourself rather than bawking at it the moment you hear them reply to nothing because it’s considered cringe.
And like any medium, the quality varies. There are amazing creators and amateurs, but because it takes so little budget, it’s largely amateurs. And I love that, it’s an incredible way for people to tell stories, get into voice acting, etc.
I just wish more people engaged in it earnestly and I appreciate all the people who do
