Lady with a Dove by John Brett
The sitter, Madame Mathilde Loeser, was painted by Brett at the request of her husband Frederick Loeser. However, it is said that several artists wished to paint her, for her ‘wild bush of grey hair and her strange and picturesque beauty’. The wing of the dove echoes the curved outline of the sitter’s skirt, and the dove motif is repeated in the mosaic brooch on her shoulder. cr: tate.org.uk

the fact that i’m not on a balcony in italy watching the sun set eating fresh fruit with my lover is offensive
slowly finding things to live in the little cubbies in my desk. soon I'll start studying for the physics GRE, or I'll at least tell myself that. in the meantime I've been writing letters to my friends.
