It's hot so I've been doing more sewing. You know, because it's cooler work than knitting. Wait I forgot about all the ironing 🥵

Anyway I improvised a simple A-line dress for my daughter, because all girls' clothing is made of thin fabric UNLESS it's summer and you're looking for something breezy made of light cotton or linen

Finished handspun! Once it's no longer so hot and I have time and the sewing stuff is off the table I can weave it into yet another scarf

My wife looked over just as Roxanne was demonstrating this bobbin you can attach to a drill for easy yarn transfer, and went: "I'm surprised I haven't seen that as a KitchenAid attachment yet"

A yarn adventure (yarndventure)

I got some pooling yarn and wanted to try out assigned pooling. I was also curious about triangular construction in the round. So I knit a triangle in the round. Findings:

This does not lay flat. Maybe it would with some rigorous blockong

The triangle shape is pretty good

Assigned pooling is very fun. Good balance between mindless and mindful

However I haven't found anything I could knit that I would want to wear. This pattern in particular is fun but throws off the gauge and is too airy for anything you'd want to be warm, like a hat.

I like the colourway; it reminds me of the disability pride flag. So I would actually like to knit something with it but idk what. 388 metres of fingering weight yarn but my gauge here was 21 stitches/10 cm

Things on the knitting list

cardi for wifey. Probably this one. I swatched first with some lovely bfl-yarn but I did not have enough for a decent cardigan. Then I swatched with some other dark green yarn (I used to be a pullover from B & F), which I do have enough of. But it's a fingering yarn that apparently has the gauge of a DK... So I'm hitting 20 stitches / 10cm, and the pattern we decided on has 28 stitches/10cm, soooo ... I can recalculate but row gauge does seem to be important since you start with the cables and then pick up stitches so I'm a bit scared

Also for wifey, a top in silk yarn. It's one they saw on tumblr a while ago and loved so I hope it works out

second long sock, this time with different negative ease on the leg to compare with the first sock I just finished

I want to try to recreate the sweater x cape thing my ex-colleague had but that too needs a lot of Headspace to be free for occupation with Maths and I'm not sure when that will happen

I also still have two yarn vouchers I haven't used yet - but I want to work through some of the stash first

I also maybe want to knit another beaded scarf even though it's not the type of thing I wear :/ but they're fun to make...

I'm currently at a place where I Want To Knit but I don't want to Math so I'm a liiiittle bit stuck

Thaya DK Top pattern by Valentina Bogdanova

I finished another long term project! It sadly came out too baggy. Looks good on my wife, though (bottom row)

I wanted to knit something that wasn't wool for summer and rediscovered I don't like knitting with not-wool. Oops.

Yay it's finished!

I started spinning the yarn for this cardigan in 2024, started knitting last winter, and finished it now!

I wanted an oversized cardigan with a zipper and without ribbing. The gradient yarn gives it a fair isle look. I was a bit scared when it looked pretty tight when I tried it on after I'd cut the steeks but the cardi grew a LOT after blocking so it was fine. The shaping isn't very flattering but it is COMFY.

What do you call patterns that keep calling back and forth to other parts of the pattern? Anyway. This choose your own adventure pattern means I missed the bit where I needed to add two centimeters of ribbing. I noticed while I was working on the second sleeve. Not sure if I feel like undoing the bind off...

Long socks on the train

Knitting this to see if my long sock calculations in the generator are correct... Roxanne Richardson covered long socks this week and mentioned using a greater negative ease in the leg section so I'll be testing that out in sock two to report on the difference.

Then I'd ideally also like to add bottom-of-foot gusset increases and that means more test knitting

And then maybe I'll be brave enough to put it on Ravelry

But I don't feel I should since this generator was made with my calculations that are solving my problem of Tiny Narrow Feet Big Ankle and I don't know if it also works on people who have Broad Foot Problems ... So ideally I'd need test knitters. I know there are people on Ravelry offering this service but (how adult of me) I am nervous about interacting with Strangers on this so I'd prefer to get Tumblr testers who I maybe vibe with better if that makes sense?

16. do you ever freehand knit?

I guess? I haven't heard of freehand knitting before :D And Qwant only wants to give me "free knitting" information. Does that mean knitting without a pattern and adjusting as you go? I do top-down hats like that sometimes.

29: do you ever machine knit?

No, I don't own a machine... One of my regrets is that I didn't inherit my* grandmother's knitting machine... Machine knitting looks very interesting but also very fiddly and what weaving has taught me, is that I don't like the fiddle.

*we weren't actually related by blood so I didn't get anything from her, and there was a falling out with the family since my sister, who is related by blood, got cheated out of her part of the inheritance by the rest of the family so yeah, my flaky uncle got that machine, no clue what he does with it

12. colorwork or cables?

Hard choice! I'm guessing cables because you don't need several yarns to knit? Even though calculating gauge can take huge swatches... But I'm a bit annoyed by how on Ravelry you can't really search by meterage/yardage required for a pattern of your size, and the results for "I only have this many metres please what can I knit" are even worse for colourwork.

27. what's a knitting-related skill you want to learn?

I'd like to be able to use more types of knitting! I'm an English knitter (despite being from the continent and never having seen any knitters in the family use continental), I can do continental eg for multi-stranded colourwork, but I'm just not as good at it which makes it frustrating.
