A few months ago, I was touring with my university’s men’s glee club and on one of the last nights of our concert tour, I was in my hotel room, finishing writing a chapter for my ROTI fanfic. I was rooming with this senior who I didn’t know and who was super Christian and kind of a brownnoser to our conductor, so we didn’t get along much. But just as I was getting ready to exit the Google Doc tab, he asked me what I had been typing.
Well, obviously it’s Total Drama fan fiction so I didn’t want to tell him or anyone. Not only is the series slightly niche, especially now in 2026, but writing fan fiction in general isn’t the first thing I’d readily admit to anyone
Anyways, after I was evasive for a while, I eventually just didn’t care and told him I was writing fan fiction. When he asked me what I was writing it about, I said “It’s from this series that was on Cartoon Network, it’s called Total Dra–“
Y’all, the way this man’s eyes lit up and I had barely gotten my sentence out 😭 He started talking about how he was a huge fan of the series when it was airing, and was so devoted that he watched every season as it aired on Cartoon Network all the way up to RIDONCULOUS RACE. That’s like eight years of continuous dedicated viewership, even after Gen 1.
Anyways, we talked about the show and our favorite characters for a while after, and he seemed so surprised when I told him about the Reboot Seasons 1 and 2 (FreshTV, PLEASE do better with your marketing). I also told him about the plot of my fan fic and he asked for the link to it.
Anyways, he’s graduated now and I might never see him again, but it’s nice to know I sang in a choir with an Owen and Lightning stan.
