Kora Danvers is unstable. She is damaged. She is not Kara, she cannot handle loss well. She cannot adapt well to losing the people that she loves. She becomes dark and twisted and gets lost in her own mind. She becomes obsessive and borderline psychotic when she realizes that there is nothing that she is capable of doing to bring her loved ones back.Â
“You do one thing and you’re done. That’s it, that’s who you are forever. No one ever forgets the one time you fucked up and no redeeming qualities, no amount of apologizing or friendliness is ever going to fix that. You know what you’ve done and you repent and yet you’re left there feeling empty and alone because you chased everyone away. And out of what --- insecurity? It’s stupid and yet it sticks in everyone’s mind and it’s like a poison. You’re infected and no one wants you around anymore because if it happened once, it could happen again. You do one thing and that’s it. That’s who you are. You’re done.”
Barry felt he didn’t have the right to allow himself to get upset right now, this was his fault. He;d failed them all and now one of the sweetest people to ever exist was in peril. He was supposed to be a hero, he was supposed to save people, he was supposed to be fast enough; but he wasn’t any of those things right now. And this wasn’t the first time that he’d been to blame for something terrible.
“I’m sorry. I know I can never feel what you’re feeling right now, but you can trust that I do feel terrible. I know I failed, and that’s something that I’m going to have to live with for the rest of my life. I won’t ever forget this.” If she got hurt… “I’ll go back in time. I know what happened now, if I go back in time, I can stop it from happening.”
He had already learned from changing the past, it always had terrible consequences, but at least those terrible consequences wouldn’t be Kara’s kidnapping. “Someone else could get hurt though, changing the past always has repercussions, we need a plan. You can exact whatever vengeance on me that you feel you need to after we get Kara back.”
Crushing Barry’s hand would possibly make Kora feel better, but then what? That wouldn’t bring her sister back. That wouldn’t help anyone or any part of the situation that they were stuck in. Dammit. “No, if you go back in time you’ll just screw things up more. All of this happened because of your time jumps, don’t you get it? My sister is with this psychopath because of you.”Â
Kora needed to calm down, take a few deep breaths before she exploded. Covering her face, she turned her back to Barry. “You’re not going back in time.” She ground her teeth together. “We need to find out where they went. If we can find out where they took her, we can get her back. I am going to crush his bones into dust with my bare hands when I see that stupid smirk on his face again. Can’t any of your friends figure out where he took her?”
