hey so maybe let’s stop blaming a kid for getting covid guys
seeing a lot of tommy hate, and as i always do, i have Thoughts
The UK lifted restraints way too soon. It’s not the same as it is in the US and everything he did was perfectly legal and within the “guidelines”. Masks aren’t required anymore (even though they really should be) and you can meet with any number of people outside. Lots of places are reopening.
Now, speaking a little personally. It could have literally been anything that got him covid. I got covid during Christmas because my dad went to the supermarket after working at home for months (wearing a mask!) and he caught it there, and then because he was in the house, we got it too. It’s so random, dude. Saying Tommy “had it coming” because of the vlogs that were filmed within government guidelines is really fucked up.
Do I think he should have been more careful? Yeah. The UK really rushed lifting the restrictions, but it’s really not on him for following GOVERNMENT GUIDELINES. There’s this narrative that he wasn’t following Covid-19 guidelines, but people are looking at it from a US guideline angle and not a UK one. He WAS following the guidelines, they were just too rushed and that’s not his fault. He was under the impression that it was safe.
I will admit, the promotion of Vidcon is definitely icky. It’s his first one, so I get he’s excited, but I feel he needs to be more realistic about things. Encouraging people from all across the world to meet in one big area is uh…no.
Another thing! People aged 16-17 COULD NOT get the vaccine until THIS WEEK. I was only able to book an appointment yesterday.
So much of this can be boiled down to “stop thinking the rest of the world is like America” lmao.
Also I’m pretty sure the “it’s just a bad flu” was to reassure people that he personally would be fine, and wasn’t meant to soften what Coronavirus actually is. His symptoms made him feel like he just had a bad case of the flu, that’s what he was talking about.
TLDR: He should have been a bit more careful but everything he did was within UK covid guidelines and blaming him for getting covid is fucked up.
