At the accusation, Shoto slides his bleary gaze from the kanji soup swirling in his notebook up to Iida. He’s usually one of the first to bed among their class (second to Bakugo, probably), so it must be obvious to the class representative when he hasn’t slept well… but it’s still a novel experience that Iida is hounding him for not taking care of himself, punctuating his concern with hands chopping at the air in front of Shoto’s face.The breeze from the movements is just enough to wake Shoto up. Feels nice… His eyes drift back to his Japanese homework.

“Yeah, my bad,” he replies, warding the sleep away with slow blinks. “I was having trouble with a question on one of our assignments. I finally worked it out, but it was past midnight by the time I went to bed.”

Despite being scolded, Shoto finds he likes the idea of someone looking out for him like that, enjoys that someone would pay attention to him enough to recognize his habits and usual schedule and speak to any anomalies. Having friends is definitely a good thing. “It won’t happen again any time soon, Iida. Sorry to make you worry.”

He is, but not fully. It’s that feeling of his eyelids being glued shut, the desire to remain still rather than disturb himself from such a comfortable position. Shoto’s hum sounds more like a disgruntled moan when he acknowledges hearing Midoriya’s words, although not necessarily the meaning. Midoriya’s voice sounds like pleasant background noise if anything.

When he shifts it’s to press his face further into his pillow, unaware or indifferent to the fact that it’s Midoriya’s thigh he happens to be rubbing his cheek against.
