fell behind on my 2kkis. here’s a tiny urotsuki in the meantime.

There is a recurrent spot where the pattern lolls like a broken neck and two bulbous eyes stare at you upside down. I get positively angry with the impertinence of it and the everlastingness. Up and down and sideways they crawl, and those absurd, unblinking eyes are everywhere. There is one place where two breadths didn't match, and the eyes go all up and down the line, one a little higher than the other.

It is dull enough to confuse the eye in following, pronounced enough to constantly irritate and provoke study, and when you follow the lame uncertain curves for a little distance they suddenly commit suicide––plunge off at outrageous angles, destroy themselves in unheard of contradictions.

i’ve had a quiet project going for a little bit inspired by of the work of one of my favorite illustrators, louis wain. known as "the man who drew cats," his art is noteworthy in that it very vividly demonstrates the progression of his mental state as he struggled with schizophrenia, as his figures became distorted and melted into the patterns in the backgrounds of his illustrations. i recently reread "the yellow wallpaper" by charlotte perkins gilman and was taken with the idea of turning wain's "wallpaper cats" into gilman's "creeping women."

it’s october, and you know what that means. this year i’m doing illustrations based on yume 2kki characters, settings, events and creatures. i’m already off to a late start, but let’s see if i can beat last year’s record of 14 days.

taking a few warm-up requests, nothing over the top or fancy!

bonus points for yume nikki characters, monster girls and personal ocs, provided you have enough reference that you can direct me to. i might also do two characters interacting, but probably not more than that. i’m unlikely to do fan art of any series i’m unfamiliar with.

feel free to link me to any other color palette challenges if there’s a color palette that you prefer. i might bend the rules a little bit and toss in a few other colors to help ground the piece if i need to, so put some thought into the color combinations you pick!
