I have a hard time doing illustrations like this, because I have so many thoughts in my head and want to say (visually) and I want to capture them all. It hurts to have to create this ... that this is reality... that we have to march, protest....RIOT...fighting for just the right to LIVE! To be treated the same “civil rights” equal rights... Being a black man, and having a black family...having these discussions on race, and black history in America to my 8 year old son 12 year old daughter... explaining to them that just because of their color they may be treated wrongly... or harmed. Along with the important of education... being proud of who you are, self defense...self awareness self confidence... yes EVERYONE needs this but being black it seems that needs to be our superpower. This may not be the way we wanted change to happen, but this maybe the way it needed to be... the world is watching/listening... we are on the main stage.... what happens next? It took me a little while to create this ... at first I was in disbelief because the internet definitely spreads false information but then when the final report came I was like damn one of the GOATS 🐐 is gone... then as more information came in and finding out his 13 year old daughter Gianna was on their too ... as a father of three I could only imagine the thoughts that ran through their head as this was happening ...holding your child not knowing what’s going to happen and no way to protect them... this is want hit me the most ... not to mention his wife Vanessa who now has to mourn her husband and daughter if not just one is hard not to mention getting up everyday to take care of your newborn baby and 2 other children.. This hit me hard ... then learning that there were 7 others 3 of them from the same house hold... mother father and daughter John, Keri and Alyssa Altobelli, ... Sarah and Payton Chester, Coach Christina Mauser and of course the pilot Ara Zobayan. I know there are many tragedies that have happened but if this doesn’t help reiterate the saying that “the present is a gift and we must value it because tomorrow isn’t promised...” I don’t know what does.
