Animal testing for drugs and cosmetics to die soon using lab-grown skin instead
An international team led by King’s College London and the San Francisco Veteran Affairs Medical Center (SFVAMC) has developed the first lab-grown epidermis – the outermost skin layer - with a functional permeability barrier akin to real skin. The new epidermis, grown from human pluripotent stem cells, offers a cost-effective alternative lab model for testing drugs and cosmetics, and could also help to develop new therapies for rare and common skin disorders. Thank heavens we could possibly have a solution . Glad to hear technology can finally help those poor animals AND the human race
An afternoon with Charles Jardine
Firstly I must express my thanks for the time Charles so kindly spent with the group today. As Charles is an experienced Coach, Instructor and Angler it was great to learn so many techniques . Its not only his technical ability that simply amazes all bystanders its also his understanding of how to maximise the individuals needs.
I have already touched on technically ability and I its truly amazing how little effort is put into his casting technique. There was a repeat of some words which Charles believes is at the core of understanding and delivering a cast:
Timing
Compression
Tension
If the structure of the cast meets all those criteria then physics will often take over and aid the cast .
That may seem an over simplification but when it was demonstrated to me it did make sense . If I was to add a fourth, it would be to relax.
It was a truly inspirational afternoon and glad to know that Charles has offered his time for a "wash up " session.
Bylaws
Whilst attending an Angling Trust regional meeting it was brought to my attention that our bylaws may be somewhat misinterpreted. I have found , what I think to be clear definition of the current bylaws and so I would like to share this information.
Coarse fish removal
On rivers, you may take no more than:
• one pike of less than 65 cm per day;
• two grayling of between 30 and 38 cm per day;15 barbel, chub, common bream, common carp, crucian carp, dace, perch, pike, roach, rudd, silver bream, smelt or tench (including any hybrids of these species) of less than 20cm per day.
All lengths are measured from the tip of the snout to the fork of the tail.
There are no restrictions on the number of other coarse fish you may take (see later for eel and shad).
On stillwaters and canals, you may only take freshwater fish with the written permission of the fishery owner or occupier. NB. Canals are defined as those canals where the coarse fish close season has been removed.
You may keep fish in a keepnet or keepsack before returning them to the water.
Eels and shad
You may not take or kill any rod caught eel or shad from any waters, including tidal waters.
You may keep eel in a keepnet or keepsack before returning them to the water. Shad must be returned immediately.
Hope it's a good one
