entertainment you’re consuming for free. I can’t stress this enough: you’re enjoying someone else’s craft for free. You paid exactly zero money to look at/read/watch it.

S H A R E D  with you, not made for you. This is the most important point: someone created that, put it online and you found it. No one forced you to consume that fanwork, you C H O S E  to do it. 

Whenever you feel like leaving a mean comment, anonymous hate or make a ~clever post about how ‘lol look at all of these overused tropes every fic writer crams into their fics’ remember you’re being a dick to someone who shared their work with you. You’re not being funny, you’re not being edgy, you’re not being brave for calling something out - you’re being a dick.

My therapist just told me my problem is that I need to write more fanfiction.

This sounds fake but the logic behind it is actually really interesting? She said obsession with a new fandom triggers quick dopamine release when we consume all this related content--it's easy and addictive.

What we're NOT getting is that 'slow dopamine' that's more sustainable and engaging. That's the kind we get from DOING things that take effort but are ultimately rewarding.

So like, she suggested that writing fic and making fanart are ways to balance the quick dopamine of watching a show/reading fic with the slow dopamine of working at something that takes effort.

Moral of the story is you should engage in the process of creation around your favorite things. You'll feel better for it.

Hi! When I write a story and have a story idea, I always know the end and the beginning but never what happens in between. It always stumps me and I don't know how or why.

Have Story's Beginning and End But Not Middle

It sounds like you're coming up with two random ideas and trying to make them into a story, and that's just not how stories work. Stories aren't random ideas connected by other random ideas. Stories have to have a purpose.

Stories are about someone (protagonist) who wants a thing (goal) trying to get that thing despite the obstacles they face (conflict.)

Before you try to write a story, you need to understand who your protagonist is, what type of goal they're pursuing (internal, external, or both), what type of obstacles they face, and who or what places them there.
