When released, the film received mixed critical reaction. Since the film was an indie with limited distribution, many people missed the film then and today. I’ve always been enamored with the film and its lack of wider notice then and even now. Seems as if other similar films at the time caused it to get lost in the mix. While it was a bit raw, I thought there was much to enjoy and celebrate about the themes and character and techniques. I never see it played on cable or TV and a DVD is hard to find. Is it even on Netflix?

When released, I definitely remember responding positively to the reflexive techniques. Many critics seemed to react negatively to the use of “breaking the fourth wall”. Since I was living in NYC at the time, I had an organic connection to the tone, vibe, setting, and gritty moxie the film exhibited. Being male, I welcomed the female and feminist perspective.
