Although the misfit understood why his friend was acting this way, he found himself feeling bad for the student that was asking for his help and it was this reason that he called his name.  “Tris.” Truthfully, if Hyuksoo had been around, the misfit would have been hesitant to approach him since he didn’t want to get in their way but since the hipster was by himself, he hoped that that would not be the case.  “Sorry, I am going to steal my friend but I am sure you can find him later to continue this conversation.” He offered the other student a smile and then turned his attention to his best friend as he wrapped his arm around his shoulders before trying to guide him away.  “You are not busy, are you?” It was his way to find out if Tris was planning on meeting Hyuksoo anytime soon and well, he did want to talk to his friend about the ball as well.

when tristan heard his name called by his youngest friend, his head instantly snapped around to the voice, and a smile appeared on his face at seeing the younger. daewon meant a lot to him, much like hyuksoo anyway, but there’d always been something that made the elder protective over him, especially after he’d been told about his situation. it just made him want to look after the misfit even more. but he could tell now that daewon was trying to keep him away from the situation that he was in right now with talking to the other student, but he didn’t fight it. “did you just try to save them from me, daewonnie?” he narrowed his eyes playfully though, wrapping his own arm around his friends shoulder then too. “i’m never too busy for you, you know this. i haven’t seen you enough either, where’ve you been?”

honestly, hoetaek’s having the best time. sure the high school kids were being kind of obnoxious, but hoetaek can ignore them well enough not to care. the gym looks amazing, decked out like this hoetaek can almost imagine keisung is actually a decent school. the company is awesome, of course, deciding to take their best friends as their dates had been a no-brainer that has definitely paid off, and the incredible feeling of confidence they’d felt when they’d first put their outfit on earlier in the night still hasn’t faded. they LOOK great, they FEEL great, and sure, maybe the edibles honey had made for them the other day is helping that along, but the important part is that everything is GREAT. 

they’ve got a wide grin on their face as they slip outside for some air and a smoke break. they lean back against the outside of the gym, trying to take some of the pressure off their feet—they’re dying in these shoes—while they pull a pack of cigarettes out of the pocket they’d stitched under the skirt of their dress. they hum to themself as they light one, sighing contently as they blow out the smoke. it’s nice, they think, to be able to escape the generally shitty passage of time that is life like this. and it’s with that thought at the front of their mind that, at the sound of someone joining them outside, they don’t even look to see who it is before speaking. “man, isn’t tonight just so much fun?” 

coming here tonight just gave tristan the time to dress up and make outfits honestly. which was still something he loved a lot. it also let him dress his boyfriend up too, and his best friend from when he’d come to him asking for outfit help, which tristan had readily helped with anyway. but it was these kind of events that he both loved and hated, but at the same time he really did love it, and now that he could just sit, dance and mingle with a drink in his hand and his boyfriend on his arm, it did make him like this kind of thing better.

now he was outside though, adjusting the mask on his face as he sighed and sipped at the drink in his hand. only tristan hadn’t even seen the figure in front of him until their voice reached him. “i mean, i’ve had better nights, but it’s alright. fun, yes. but i think the alcohol sort of helps there too.” he chuckled quietly, holding the drink by his side. “so who am i talking to anyway?” after all, the masks and such kind of blocked out his familiarity with people right now.

hyuksoo wasn’t one to care about the damage his image would go through. well he did before but he certainly didn’t now, considering he’d just gone through hell and back when it concerned tristan, and he willingly threw away his image when people had gone after daewon. and that image of being an asshole certainly didn’t leave him anymore but he was fine with that, surprising as it may sound; at least it meant people left him alone and knew not to fuck with tristan or daewon. if being an asshole meant people would leave them alone, then he was willing to take on that mantle.`

and he barely even made the chair warm when the hipster had gone and fetched him from the table. he looked over the counter and chuckled when the guy who took over the shift had rolled his eyes at the hipster. well it’s not like they could do anything about it and hyuksoo would rather have more time with tristan. “daewonnie hasn’t replied yet which probably means their professor’s going overtime again.” he sighed out, rubbing his nose until shaking his head and smiling at the hipster. “i feel like i haven’t seen daewonnie around lately. you think he’s avoiding us?” after all, the last thing hyuksoo wanted to do was make the misfit feel like he’s intruding. “anyway, wanna get out of campus for a bit?” where they were, he had no idea, but hyuksoo just wanted to get out of the fucked up campus for a while.

tristan would never necessarily say he was alright with hyuksoo’s asshole image, if anything it irritated him more honestly. but it didn’t change that fact that he still knew who the younger was, and what he was actually like. it just pissed the elder off when he had to hear that hyuksoo had gotten in another fight with a certain rebel over a certain specific reason, from someone else. and that was when his irritation showed. but tristan was pretty certain he’d made it clear enough by now that if he was so keen on fighting, then he as much as he’d visit when he ended up in the hospital, there wasn’t going to be a great deal of sympathy for a situation he was watching hyuksoo bring onto himself; especially after numerous warnings.

when the other got up, tristan slipped his hand into his, lacking their fingers together gently. it was still a little foreign of a feeling, but at the same time, familiar. like they’d been doing it all their lives. “we can go and find him when he gets out then, treat him to something to make up for his professor being like this.” tristan hummed gently, the question next made him shake his head though. “you know daewonnie would never do that. i’ve seen him a few times, but he’s probably too caught up on work now. stop thinking so negatively, soo.” he laughed softly, knowing that their youngest friend wouldn’t do that either. but he tugged at hyuksoo’s hand then as he posed the idea of getting out of campus, pulling them both from the cafe and towards the gates that led out. “let’s go for a walk. forget about this place for a bit-- and i wanted to talk to you about something, but not here.”

“hey, i never said i wouldn’t pay the exact amount you put forward,” malee crossed her arms over her chest. “i’m just… a little low on money right now, hence my request to pay it off in instalments.” it was true – as a way of being more independent, malee had refused the huge sum of allowance her father initially wanted to give her every month, opting for her own survival methods like every other keisung college student (almost all of them, at least – she supposed the inferiors were an exception). the money she made for herself from tutoring the high school kids was enough to cover most of her expenses, but she’d gone and splurged on her dress for the ball and now, she was left with a little less money than she’d meant to reserve for the mask.

tristan’s snark was something she didn’t appreciate, not at this moment, when she already had so much going on in her own head. still, patience is a virtue, and she was going to have to keep her cool to strike a deal with him. “i do want it,” sighing exasperatedly, malee let her arms fall back to her sides. “i promise you’ll get the total amount by next month.”

he shook his head. “it’s not cash i’m after though, malee-ah.“ tristan didn’t work on a payment plan that involved money after all. or well, not in it’s physical form-- he already had more than he needed, and he didn’t really care for it much. call him a prestigious brat, but he had more than he’d ever need, or want. but the hipster also wasn’t about to around doing things for people without getting something in return. if he was going to do someone a favour, or in this case design and make something that he could sell on a runaway in his own store, then it wasn’t going to be free. “i’ll make you what you need, and you give me something in return. if it’s not enough, i’ll ask for something else on top of that. think of it like an exchange system. i just don’t deal in cash.“

he crossed his arms then, leaning against the table with some kind of nonchalance that could only come with years or learning not to care about anything in the world. as far as he was concerned, now that he was safe and away from his mother who had found herself in prison, he had nothing to worry about. “if you say next month, then i’ll hold you to that. just don’t forget because i don’t like having to chase people down-- and i will if i have to.”

“as far as you picture me to be. the favour situation is actually a very valid and viable way of payment, and i’m not asking for favours. it’s simple, if i do something for you, i expect payment for the favour in some sort of way that isn’t money, because i don’t need anymore. i just leave it up to whoever owes to choose. it’s not as bad as some of the other things people do around here, i don’t know why you’re so hurt about it. or is it because you have no skill to offer, so you’ll never be able to even ask for money for your services?“

“look, i told you that i’ll help you with your outfit or your mask, but there’s a price.“ tristan reiterated the last words spoken that were seemingly going over head right now. how difficult was it to understand this-- it wasn’t like he was going to make something like this for free when he literally had companies requesting that when he was better he’d come and do some things for them or release a new line under them. “if you don’t want it, then leave. there are other people already asking, and all you’re doing right now is being a disturbance to those around you.“

if there was anything that would take hyuksoo off-guard, it was getting into a relationship with one of his best friends. hyuksoo believed that when he got into a relationship, none of them would be his best friends; he thought tristan and daewon were far too good for an asshole like him. hell, people always asked his best friends why they were friends with someone like him. not that they could blame them considering he did get into fights with the bastard of a rebel leader, but he did feel hurt sometimes that people thought he wasn’t good enough to be their friend. and now that he was actually dating tristan, especially after everything that happened with his bitch of a mother, hyuksoo’s out there to make sure nothing bad happens to the hipster again.

he playfully rolled his eyes at his boyfriend, adjusting the bag on his shoulder before taking the paper bag with the pastries. “don’t be such a smartass, choi. it’s not pretty,” he teased instead. “in half an hour if his professor isn’t being a little shit about their class.” hyuksoo isn’t even surprised anymore that he has a shitty professor considering the good ones in keisung were few and far between. “i’ll wait for you at the usual spot. tell whoever’s supposed to take over from you to hurry up. they’re taking up my time with you.” he pouted then, unusual for it to appear on his face, until he smiled and started to sit down at the table near the back, taking out his book and reading through until the hipster came so they could leave. he’d been wanting to get out of campus for a while now after all.

tristan didn’t care when people wondered why he was friends with someone like hyuksoo, a near opposire of himself really. because tristan knew, and well, the other had been through so much with and for him. he’d watched him nearly die from a head injury after his mother tried to kill him, and then he’d stayed with him until he was better. both him and daewon together. and then they’d been in france together, and that was seemingly where everything just turned around and tristan hadn’t even known he’d felt that way about the younger; but something had apparently changed in that down the line.

“don’t be disrespectful, ji.“ tristan narrower his eyes, but it was in a more playful way as he leaned against the counter. “keep up the choi crap and i’m gonna start throwing this right back at you.“ he chuckled, because tristan still wasn’t sure where or when he’d started calling him choi, but it was amusing nonetheless. “and how many bets that his professor is going to keep him longer instead?“ because they all knew how awful the professors in this damn school were, and tristan had had his fair share too of course. “can’t tell them to hurry up when they aren’t hear yet. but i’ll join you soon.“ and the pout just made tristan melt a little inside, even if he didn’t show it much on the outside, but still. tristan watched then as hyuksoo left, and no more than five minutes later the guy taking over his shift appeared and he didn’t waste much time in pulling the apron off and throwing it over to them so he could slip out and over to hyuksoo now. “come on, we can go now, soo.“
