merry christmas to me 🤩
all i can say is y i k e s
me at school: “when I get home, im catching up on all my work and finishing assignments"
me as soon as I get home:
Things My Math Teacher has Said and Done
-”Now I’ll take attendance in the order in which I don’t like you”
-Made us say ‘may I use the potty?’ in a British accent when we need to use the washroom
-”Good morning, how’s my favourite class doing-they just left you would’ve passed them in the hallway”
-Had names for all of the variables: a is for apple pie, b is for brownie, c is for cookie, and D IS FOR DOUGHNUT
-”This is beautiful. Just like if you were in front of a mirror-with me standing in front of you”
-He spent like 10 minutes making sure we understood the difference between cannoli and cannelloni
- “You should join the geek protection squad, we would beat up kids like you”
-On the first day of class he drew an x in the corner of the whiteboard with a box around it and it???? somehow stayed there???? all year?????
-”you should all take French just in case you meet a pretty French lady on a plane like I did”
-We had this closet in the corner of the room, and then it just became a thing to talk about the body in the closet (especially when people not in the class would come in)
-Answered the phone in one of two ways “greetings human” or “Pizza Pizza”
-While we’re talking about phones if someone was being looked for he’d tell them that they were out in the smoking area handing out anti-smoking pamphlets
-”You guys are so loud! People would think you’re Italian or something”
-Once turned the lights on using ‘the force’, a.k.a a lightsaber he kept on his desk, and a student standing under the light switch
-”BIG LIKE HOUSE”
-He told us this story about how a few years ago if a kid was particularly annoying/disruptive he’d send them to a certain teacher to ask for a ‘long stand’ that teacher would take a loooong time looking for this item before sending the kid along to the next teacher (I think there were 4?) anyway, once the kid would get back and be like ‘there is no long stand’ he’d say ‘well weren’t you standing for a long time?’
-There was a girl who had a broken arm, who got moved out of the class when her schedule got rearranged. During attendance he’d call ‘broken arm girl’ first, and she would come into the room before we got there to write stuff like ‘broken arm girl was here’ on the board
-The day before christmas break we just talked about star wars the whole class
-called us all sunshine and when one girl asked why he called her stormy clouds for the rest of the year
-If someone came to borrow something, before he’d give it to them he’d ask if they would like to know where they could get one, and then the whole class would all be like ‘staples’ ‘best buy’ ‘dollar store’ etc

Free
It was something
it was heavy
overwhelming
it made the oceans rise and fill the rivers that poured onto my cheeks.
& the rivers kept flowing
questions were kept tossed by the waters
answers still to be found
it could be described as traumatic
but it was life
it was a life she kept a hold of
letting no one help
she kept on going
kept suffering until she could suffer no more
it was the life she kept a hold of
until she gave it away
she gave it to the one who created her
she was made free
free in Him
Compilation of Shakespearean Insults
“Villain, I️ have done thy mother”
“Away you three inch fool”
“I’ll beat thee, but I️ would infect my hands”
“I️ am sick when I️ do look on thee”
“More of your conversation would infect my brain”
“Thine face is not worth sunburning”
“Thou art unfit for any place but hell”
“Thou damned and luxurious mountain goat”
“You are as a candle, the better burnt out”
“Your brain is as dry as the remainder biscuit after voyage”
“Drunkenness is his best virtue”
“Thou crusty batch of nature!”
“The tartness of his face sours ripe grapes”
“Out of my sight! Thou dost infect my eyes”
“Thou hast no more brain than I️ have in mine elbows”
Dust to Dust
Life is heavy
Sometimes too heavy to hold
It gets overwhelming
like a wave of chaos
a tsunami of negativity
people can be like that too
people can lift you up
then tear you down
people can get under your skin
until you fear they've inhabited all that you are
people so unlike you
they think differently
react differently to situations
treat other breathing humans in such a way you think is unimaginable
people so unlike you that you feel attacked and engulfed in their ego
others give you a hand and a smile that lasts for a minute then is taken away and given to someone else
with life being the way that it is it gets hard
what are we to do?
people find outlets in things like drugs
alcohol
religion
a distraction from what life really is
art
sports
even other people
the one thing that is the same through all those things is that they all will fade into nothingness
life will fade into nothingness
along with all that we strive to be
all that we hate to become
all that we worry about
all that we are anxious about
all that annoys us
all that brings us joy
all that causes pain and suffering
all will fade to become nothing
nothing but the dust that others facing the same things we are today will walk on
that's the thing
life is so heavy
it turns all that it weighs on to dust
college study tips that actually help
put your phone on silent and put it across the room
listen to classical/soundtrack music without lyrics
make index cards for important vocab
wear pajamas
make diagrams and pictures. they don’t have to look pretty, as long as you understand it
make timelines for historical events
have a light snack
drink coffee or tea to keep you going
take a break every hour or so
have one pencil/black pen and one colored pen or highlighter. anything more will just distract you. the aesthetics aren’t important, your knowledge is
don’t be afraid to email/message your teacher or a classmate if you don’t understand something. the last thing you want to do is learn the incorrect information
know that sleep and health is more important than your grade. you cannot perform as well on a test if you are tired or sick. take care of yourself
it’s not a race. it’s not about who can learn something in the quickest time, it’s about learning
take a deep breath
prioritize your homework by how long it will take you and when it’s due
plan some you time in between studying and school
if you’re mentally exhausted, set a timer for 30 minutes and take a nap. any longer and you’ll wake up even more tired
don’t understand something? that’s perfectly fine, don’t stress over it. ask for help rather than complaining
have a goal in mind and write them down. say things like “i am getting an education so i can get the job of my dreams. the life that i want. the happiness that i deserve”
be thankful. it is a privilege that you get to go to school and get an education.
you got this.
PSA for everyone writing term research papers right now
Mendeley is the greatest program ever
I want to weep with joy every time I use it
Just click a button when you pull up an article and it will automatically save it to your library
And cite it for you
And you can use it on your mobile devices
And it’s free
Just download it and you won’t have so many urges to kill everyone in sight while writing a research paper
Thank you so much!
Guys, I cannot stress how amazing this program is.
You can use it to highlight, write notes, mark up, etc. What I do is I highlight all the important jazz, use the comments to write notes on the document, and on the side bar, I write an annotated bib for it for future me. It save everything you write on it forever for you and you can put the articles in folders and organize it.
But that’s not the best part, the best part is that you can access your articles ANYWHERE. Literally anywhere. Forgot your laptop and at a public library? No worries! You can go to the Mendeley website and ACCESS ALL YOUR ARTICLES WITH YOUR NOTES ONLINE. You don’t even have to download the program to access it! It is a life saver and I suggest everyone in academia use it!
The bookmark tool is the best ever. If you find an article you want to cite, you can click a button on your toolbar and it will automatically find the metadata, allow you to select which library to save it to, and allow you to add notes or save the full PDF directly to the citation in your library. Also, you can import libraries from endnote or whatever program you currently use. I love this program.
Also, if you use Word make sure you connect it with Mendeley. Hit alt-M and cite while you write!
