First
Real Ron Speirs wasn't thrilled with the misinformation that Ambrose put in his book about Edwyna. He's not wrong, you could have called and verified the information but you were not interested in truth just a story. (Or could have just left her out of it, you ass.)
And Band of Brothers the miniseries is based upon the book by Stephen Ambrose even if they had a lot of supplemental material, veteran feedback, Dick Winters yelling at Hanks, and a story to put to film...it was still based on the book.
So it is nice they crafted a Sparky for the show. Real Ron didn't smoke, drink or gamble and Webster had strong statements about him not looting either. And our screen Sparky is not married, even though Lipton wears his wedding ring we never see one on Speirs.
You can't remove him from the narrative because he is very much an essential part of this company. You can give a little of what he wanted which was to leave his family out of it and just let someone else play Sparky.
Real Ron Speirs was an incredible officer with a impressive list of accomplishments he probably never told anyone about because it was just "doing his job." It's nice they did give him a bit of what he wanted, too bad they also gave them him the hottest actor in the series who became 'Sparky' so well that he steals the show and made Speirs more popular than anyone could have imagined.
