So, this is all based on an AU @caspian1350 & I have been working on for the last few months. The series is called My Dear Band of Brothers and will (hopefully) go through Easy's time in WWII and probably some time after. This specific section is LuzToye's contribution to the Forward/Prologue where they are supposed to be answering the question: Why did you join the Airborne?
Now, why did I join up with the Airborne? Because it was supposed to be the best of the best. The cream of the crop, "the most powerful fighting force in the history of the U.S. Army; if not the entirety of the Armed Forces." And it sure looked like a helluva lotta fun. No one who volunteered for the paratroopers really knew what they were signing on for. I'm not sure any of us would have believed it if you'd tried to tell us. Hell, most of us probably would have signed on even if we did know, for the fun of it. And we did have fun, didn't we, David? But with all of that said, that money was real nice too.
Say, David, I think this is a real swell idea you've had here. And don't listen to Joe, either of them, they just wanna be mysterious assholes about everything.
Don't I know it. And that's nice of you to say, George.
Now I don't get it,
Neither does anyone else, it seems.
But I don't have to. And I think it's really something to try and memorialize us like this. Even those who refuse the spirit of it.
