@kumokun
Today I learned the IRS doesn’t audit rich people because it’s too much work.
I know this is a fun tweet and all that but it absolutely is an instance of striaght privilege. Heterosexual people have up to seven years to explore their sexual and romantic attraction in an environment that is designed for them while many queer youth deligate their time in maneuvering their identity in response to themselves and their environment. It’s one of the reasons why dating as a queer adult is so hard: so many of us are romantically undersocialized when compared to our heterosexual peers, who are not only given social liscence to explore themselves, but who have the additional benefit of being able to see themselves in media.
There will always be exceptions to this, of course, but it’s so sad to see how the effects of childhood homophobia haunt us well into our adult years, to the point where it limits our opportunity to connect with other people around us.

She got torn up by a boat propeller off New South Wales in 2001 and proceeded to walk it off. Swim it off. Whatever. The scars from the propeller slices healed ~20cm deep down her back and across her tail fluke. Since then, whale watchers down under look for “the Blade Runner” every year. Just the sight of her starts conversations about whether we humans should reconsider being such gigantic floppy penises to our rad cetacean bros.
nobody will ever be harder core than the Blade Runner. She has surpassed badassery.
She is unkillable. She is Life Goals: the Whale.
IMPORTANT: the real reason tumblr is enacting an adult content ban - and no, it isn’t because of ad space.
I have seen many petitions flying around and have signed some myself. However, the main issue isn’t tumblr, the App Store, or even Verizon’s wish to monitize ad space.
The issue is the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA) and Stop Enabling Sex Trafficking Act (SESTA) packaged set of bills. These bills were passed in April 2018 in US Congress, where websites are now liable for their content posted by 3rd parties - and can be sued if someone uses their website to solicit sex.
There’s been articles on this for a while, but they have gotten no where near as much publicity as needed - especially because it was a US bill that was passed rather than an international one. However, the effect it has internationally is widespread. No matter where you are, if you are an internet user, these bills WILL affect you.
It has directly affected websites and platforms such as Craigslist, Reddit, Microsoft, Instagram, etc., and is now affecting websites like Tumblr, Facebook, and more than likely Twitter and other platforms soon. The terms and conditions of these sites are very unlikely to change much if at all after they change to meet the current guidelines. It has affected third party users and has even been reported to have affected police in a negative way. The majority of articles on the bill are not written with positivity towards it, and it has been a controversial bill since the beginning.
This issue is not isolated to Tumblr, and even if you leave this website and switch to another, the rules will be similar or will soon be so. If you’ve been here for a long time - sure, open up some other accounts. However, I wouldn’t be so eager to jump ship - you’ll end up in the same waters.
FOSTA/SETSA has compromised section 230 of the 1996 CDA (Communications and Decency Act), which is known to have been the section that has given us the internet we have today by being a major part of internet freedom and protecting freedom of speech and expression online (by protecting hosts from being ultimately liable for third party content). There is speculation that in the future there will be more attempts made to make more acceptions or “poke holes” in section 230.
This packaged bill is what needs to be targeted by internet users internationally, and especially by US citizens as it is the US government who has put this into law. Due to lack of knowledge about this bill, previous petitions did not meet the required amount of attention. This bill is not only directly affecting tumblr, but is affecting the internet as a whole and it’s time to focus on the root of the cause.
In Summary:
THIS ISSUE IS NOT ISOLATED TO TUMBLR.
The adult content ban by Tumblr is NOT caused by the website curators or the Apple App Store.
The main cause of the adult content ban is NOT Verizon trying to monitize ad space, but requirements by the US FOSTA/SESTA combined bill.
FOSTA/SESTA has poked a hole in the 1996 CDA, section 230 which protects web hosts from being liable by content posted by 3rd parties.
Now, websites will be liable and can be sued for content posted by their users, notably in relation to the solicitation of sex.
It is speculated that further attempts will he made to break down parts of section 230.
Although it is a US Bill, it affects the entire World Wide Web. This new joint bill has directly impacted several other websites and continues to do so.
Due to lack of public knowledge, previous petitions did not meet requirements.
FOSTA/SESTA repeal needs to be the main focus by tumblr users and social networking sites as a whole.
So, what can be done?
Read this tweet, and thread from twitter user Aditya Mukerjee (@chimeracoder) for more information on what you can do, and more information about what is going on.
Please, share this info. If you have additional information on this, or what US and intentational citizens can do to help with a repeal, please reblog this post and add it.
Funny how the religious right have so much power and yet get away with so much perversion in their own houses
Save The Blogs!
Okay, folks. So. Tumblr’s jumped the shark in a big way, and I’m not even just talking about indiscriminately blocking all “adult” content on a platform that IS, in fact, primarily 18+.
Many blogs, like the wonderful @blackkatmagic , that are not especially NSFW have vanished.
(And I for one LIKE being able to go to curated porn blogs run by actual people and have a chance of finding stuff to my taste, it was one of the things that kept me on this hellsite, but that’s another issue entirely.)
I know lots of people are talking about migrating, but none of us are sure to where yet. Pillowfort seems to be an option, some people are talking about Twitter. But for now, it’s a mess, and even if we knew where we were going, it’s often a huge process, and a lot of us have stuff on tumblr that ONLY exists there. One possible quick solution to save your blogs, both NSFW and personal, is to import it to WordPress. I found this solution through from frantic googling on how to save an entire blog, text posts an all. There are several apps for downloading all the pictures from a tumblr, (Plently for Windows, but only a few paid ones for mac, of which Tumbelog Picture Downloader is working for me so far) but this is the only solution I’ve seen so far that allows you to save EVERYTHING. I downloaded my NSFW blog in like 10 min. My regular blog, which is significantly larger, is in the process of importing, but I don’t anticipate any problems. I will, of course, update you if I have any.
This tutorial I found worked really easily. http://quickguide (.) tumblr (.) com/post/39780378703/backing-up-your-tumblr-blog-to-wordpress
I put parenthesis around the .’s like we’re back in FF-Hell, just in case tumblr’s new thing about outgoing links kicks in. You know what to do. To break it down, just in case:
Sign up for a WordPress.com account at wordpress (.) com/start You’ll have to create an account, with your email, a username, and a password. They should send you a confirmation email immediately, check it, activate it, and you’re good to go. On the site, it will ask you for a site name. That page asks you a bunch of other information too, but you only have to fill out the site name.
Then you have to give your site a URL. If you’re lucky, your tumblr URL is still available, if not you’ll have to come up with another one, sorry.
It will tell you if that option is still available for free.
Then it will ask you to pick a plan. Free is really good enough, I swear.
Now you’re set up! You can import your tumblr! The only differences from the linked tutorial are that the Import button is now on the first level menu, not in tools.
Hit Import, then you have to follow the link for “other importers” at the bottom, to find the option for Tumblr.
Then you’ll have to sign in with tumblr, using your normal tumblr credentials. You’ll be redirected there automatically. You’ll have to allow Wordpress permissions on your blog.
Then your blogs, including all your sideblogs, will show up in wordpress.
Hit import, wait a WHILE depending on the size of your blog, and you’re done!
ALSO!!
I made my NSFW blog private for now, since I don’t know WP’s policy on NSFW.
This means that to access it, someone has to have an account and request access. But hey, part of our problem on this hellsite has been people going places they aren’t wanted, so I don’t personally see this as a bad thing. They can send a request from the landing site on your blog, you get an email, click a link in the email, and PRESTO, they have access. To make it private, go to Settings > Reading > Site Visibility. Go back and check, it took me changing the setting twice for it to actually stick. tl;dr, you can import your entire blog to wordpress in just a few steps. I’m going to tag the hell out of this, in no particular order. PLEASE reblog this and spread the word so people know it’s an option. If you’re having trouble, PM me, and I’m happy to help.
