Shin’s smile became gentle. He reached over and patted Kun’s shoulder, hoping that the simple gesture would convey everything that words could not. “I’ll come around as often as I can,” He said sincerely. “And when I can’t, I’ll tell Jaesung to visit!” 

He patted the arm on his shoulder, it was comforting -- maybe a gentle reminder from the universe that despite his looks Shin was actually older than Kun De. “That sounds fun.” With another gentle squeeze he let go of the hunter’s hand. “Come on, let’s go grocery shopping. The food I have at home will not be enough to sustain your appetite.”

“No, because the food is excellent.” Shin gave his brother a cheeky grin. “Are you suuuuure you want to invite me over that long? I mean, you know how much I like to eat.” 

A laugh escaped his lips, “And you know just how much I like to cook.” He gave Shin’s hand a gentle squeeze, his smile now holding a bit of sadness. “Also… I know I wanted to experience life outside Asia but it’s been a little lonely without you lot to bother me everyday. So please bother me.”

Good Neighbor || Kun De & Delilah

She was there only to buy one ingredient. She was only there to buy a bit of whipping cream to top a cake. Nothing else. Delilah told herself this, again and again, and felt certain that her trip to the store would be a quick one. 

“Let’s see…ooh, sprinkles! Those would be perfect! And maybe a bit of strawberry essence to -” She stopped short. The two ingredients sat on the shelf, but she could not reach for them. It was then she realized that she was standing in the middle of the store, barely balancing half a dozen assorted ingredients and pans in her arms. 

She had been there to buy one ingredient, she thought again. “…why did I come to a specialty store?” She said, shifting her arms and trying not to drop her load. “I could never resist all the cool stuff…ah!” Despite her efforts, a small sack of almond flour that she’d rested on the top of her pile slipped, and it fell to the ground with a small thump. She mentally kicked herself; she was really stuck now.

He rolled his cart into another aisle thinking over everything he might need again and looking over everything he’d already gotten. Sprinkles, he needed more sprinkles. There was a lady blocking the sprinkles though and she... was carrying way too many items. He smiled in amusement -- he’s pretty sure he knew what happened.

He left his cart for a bit and went to get a basket near the cashiers, he came back with the lady in the same position. Kun De offered the basket to her, smiling kindly, “Got a little carried away with the baking supplies I assume?” He noted the almond flour on the floor and picked it up before placing it into the basket. “I know the feeling.”

There really is no point in making a shopping list when you ultimately forget it. He let out a small breath, the only sign of his frustration as his face remained rather stoic. He had a lot to shop for today. He was done shopping for his regular replenishments – he had gone to the regular grocery store for that but needless to say it had been a disaster, his scatterbrain meant he had to recheck his items repeatedly only to find out he had missed something and/or had gotten too much. That had happened too many times, 17 times but who’s counting?

This is why he needed a list.

Right now he was at a specialty baking store. He wanted to see what treats he could make for his new neighbors before he went back to his family in China for a visit. His goal was to try making a few treats for the immortals he’d been able to meet in his short time in Westlore. If you want people to like you after all the best way to do that is to feed them.

“Gonna tie a napkin around my neck?” Shin said, chuckling and amused. “We both know a stay at your house is better than staying at a five star hotel.” He thought of sleeping in the fluffy guest bed that Kun de would no doubt have ready, complete with a cup of hot cocoa on the nightstand, and he smiled. Regardless of how his hunt turned out, he would be resting well after.

Idly, he also thought it was lucky that this hunt was likely to be quiet -he didn’t want to get blood on Kun de’s new carpets and bedsheets so soon.

“Because it’s free?” His voice was teasing, he really never minded when any of his siblings came over to stay -- he liked taking care of everyone. It felt really good to be needed... loved even. He gave Shin’s hand a gentle pat. “Stay as long as you’d like. Even when the job is done I’d be glad to have you around, you know that.”

“Sure!” Shin smiled back, bright and cheerful. “It’ll be nice to stay somewhere cozy.” It was always lovely, staying with Kun de -his home was always perfectly neat and clean, and often smelled like the baked goods he was always making. Pleased with their plans, Shin went back to munching his own food and took a big bite.

He had barely finished swallowing before nodding excitedly for Kun de. “Can we make hotteok? You have a way of making it really tasty.” 

He sighed but it was an affectionate sigh, one that told just how long they’ve been together and how used Kun De was to the other’s antics. It’d be nice for you to stay somewhere safe, he couldn’t help but think. At least the reflector got to watch over Shin this time as he jumped into another dangerous situation, that was a small comfort. Actually a large comfort -- he could prevent the hunter’s attempts to self medicate serious injuries that he’d be very grateful for.

The child like excitement of the shorter male’s was enough to get a laugh out of Kun De. “Yes I’ll make you hotteok and whatever else you’d like. You’re my guest after all.” His smile turned more playful. “Might as well put my service to the test.”

“It won’t count as late if I come home in the morning, right?” Shin said cheekily, punctuating his words by snatching up the last chorizo on Kun de’s plate and happily munching on it.

However, once the treat had been swallowed, he spoke again in a less mischievous tone. “I’ll be working at night for this one -it’s the best way to catch them off guard!” 

"...Right." Kun De wore a pained smile on his lips before taking a sip of his drink. It wasn't like he wasn't used to the emotional roller coaster that was Shin's job. One of these days though Kun was probably going to snap, locking Shin up for his own safety.

"So you'll bring your things over later?" He smiled again, this one soft and genuine. Despite the probability of a heart attack Kun was glad for the company. "Let's go grocery shopping afterwards, I'll make your favorites while you're here."

“Hey, I always come back alive, right?” Shin said cheerfully, chuckling a little as he pulled his hand back. “There’s no way I would die so easily. I’ve still got a lot of things to do, you know!” He grinned. “So, dangerous or not, you can be sure I’ll come home!” 

He sighed deeply at Shin’s easygoing attitude, sometimes even he found it hard to remember that the other immortal was actually older than him. “Well don’t come home too late. You know very well that I have trouble sleeping if you’re still out, I can’t afford to lose sleep this month.”

The night was long and unnerving for Kun De whenever his house was missing someone. Even in China -- he had lived alone but it was normal for a his siblings to stay for a couple days, as long as he knew someone planned to stay over he didn’t feel calm in the evenings until that person was safe at home.

He let out another sigh, he really was such a mother hen.

Shin reached across the table to pat Kun de’s hand. “I’ll be fine, I promise,” He said reassuringly, giving Kun a smile. “I don’t expect there to be a lot of action on this job. I promise I’ll always be on time for our plans!” Leaning a little closer, he pinched Kun’s cheek with a laugh. “You don’t need to worry about me!” 

Kun De gave him a withering look, clearly unconvinced. It didn’t matter if you were just an acquaintance or close enough to be considered a sibling, everyone was well aware that Park Shinyong had a knack for getting into trouble. “Sure I don’t,” he said with a slight tone of sarcasm, gently swatting Shin’s hand away from his cheek. “Still it’s reassuring to know that this job isn’t as dangerous as your usual ones.”

Without missing a beat, Shin took the napkin and swiped it over the stain on his cheek -Kun de’s thoughtfulness was something he was used to, and by now it was routine to them. “I’d love to help!” He said brightly, beaming from ear to ear. “We can do it before I have to leave for home. We’ve got a few days!” 

“So the itinerary for this week is cooking, eating, movie nights, and exploring the town; is that right?” He finished off the last bits of his pasta leaving a bit of chorizo on the plate for Shin to take. “Then you’ll work on your target while I go to the office--” Kun pressed his lips together, his usual stoic expression breaking into something that resembled worry. “Promise to be safe or call if you run into a problem, if you’re close I can and will help.”

Alma dropped her gardening gloves in the bed outside and brushed the dirt off her hands. She was more than slightly confused by this man she’d never met before, but he seemed polite- far more polite than most, actually. So she accepted the proffered tin of cookies and held out her right hand. “Nice to meet you, Jesse, I’m Alma, though I guess you know that.” She pulled her hand away and propped it on her hip. “Might I ask why you’re here?”

With a small smile Kun De shook her hand hoping that it wasn’t sweating; it didn’t normally but his body and mind had this knack for screwing him over at the worst times. “I-- Well, I know there are people who are required to make their presence known to you first when they visit Westlore. I wasn’t sure whether I should inform you or not when I arrived, but I thought it’d be better to see you sooner rather than later either way.”

“You should try and get to know the place!” Shin said cheerfully, after swallowing down a bite of pasta. “I’ve heard good things about Westlore -it doesn’t quite feel like my kind of city, but it sounds nice and peaceful. Looks like they’ve recovered well from the war, too.”

“Hey, when you’re finally free. we can stroll around together!” He added. “You’ll get to know the place, and I’ll get to explore!” 

“If you want to explore we should do it this week, it’s the deceptively calm period of my December workload.” As he said this he casually slid a napkin near the hunter’s plate after noting the speck of sauce that managed to get itself caught on Shin’s cheek. “I’ve wanted to bring by treats to my neighbors, maybe we can do that then. Want to help me make macaroons?” There was an amused smile on Kun’s face he knew the older would mostly likely eat more than actually help but it was always fun having him in the kitchen so he didn’t mind.

Shin reached over, stealing another piece of chorizo with his fork before happily eating it. “I didn’t know if you’d have a place ready,” He said. “I figured you might still be setting in and all.” 

“On that note, how is Westlore?” Shin asked brightly. “I’ve never stayed here for too long. Is it nice so far?” 

He shrugged, he had made sure all his unpacking was done the day he moved. Kun De hated the sight of boxes cluttering what he was soon to call home -- well, one of his homes; he hated clutter in general. The coordinator had spent hours going through his boxes, arranging his furniture just right to be able to accommodate guests and himself. 

He might have slept at 4 am but at least by then his new home was clutter free.

The younger nodded taking a sip of his water before answering. “The people in Westlore have been friendly so far; I haven’t been able to socialize much, the last few months of the year are always my busiest.”

Shin giggled when his hair was ruffled; Kun knew he liked getting petted. “Can I?” He beamed. “I had a place rented out for myself, but I’d love to sleep over! We could watch a movie!” 

He shook his head before feeding himself another bite. “You shouldn’t have bothered renting a place, you know very well that I’d be happy to take you in.” Truthfully Kun De had been feeling rather lonely; he was so used to the boisterous atmosphere of his old home, living all by himself made a rather drastic change in his lifestyle. It’d be nice to have the hunter around to keep him company. “I’ll be sure to make movie snacks.”

“Well, that too!” Shin laughed. “But I’d miss getting a Christmas hug from you!” 

When the waitress arrived, Shin grinned brightly and cheerfully thanked her for the food. The rich aroma nearly made his mouth water; he hadn’t realized he was already quite hungry. Before digging in, though, he noticed the slight shifts in Kun’s posture, first going to his dignified stance before returning to something more natural -though he figured only he would have noticed it in that restaurant.  He knew better than to mention it outright, however. He only smiled at Kun’s offer and took a small chorizo from Kun’s plate. “Thanks Kun De,” He said happily giving his brother a big smile. “You’re so nice.” 

He reached over the table and ruffled Shin’s hair, smiling freely. “Only because you’re easy to be nice too.” With a small laugh he retracted his hand getting back to his meal, it really was quite good; when he finally had the time he’d try to recreate it, it shouldn’t be too hard. “If you’ll be here for awhile you might as well stay with me, my guest room is all furnished if you’re interested.”
