@ulixneriadne I canāt message you smh so this will be a temp post
Iām curious if this is an idea thatāll ever come up in the manga, because I think that Yana would now not want to make what a āheartā is so tangible. Though I think that still exists in how they relate to cinematic records, I can see sebastian being enchanted by this intangible thing (describing the heart as something made of joys, agonies, and jealousies of humankind definitely aligns with Sebastianās view of them)
Sebastian has referenced having a soul (that belongs to Ciel), but he didnāt think he should even be capable of the emotions that would cause one to cry (though his apprehension and concern for ciel staying in that forest actually betrayed that he was just as susceptible to the psychological warfare)
I think demons lack heart, they lack care, they lack desire, and they (supposedly) eat souls because they donāt know how to fill the void in them. The bizarre dolls are introduced almost like a reflection of that
I think Sebastianās plight (and maybe the plight of all demons if Claude and Hannah were written based on what she told them about demons) is that having a heart is not an innate quality, but sebastian is a romantic.
He sees the passion that exists in humanity, itās intrinsic, but I think he (all demons?) take it for granted that their desire is for the soul. I think earlier on, he would interpret the feeling of being proud of the boy, excited by him, in awe of him, enjoying time with him, wanting to hold him, all as primal hunger. Like he was convincing himself that this particular soul is going to be the best and what fills him up. He didnāt have the tools available to really recognize his own feelings as they were. I think since the luxury liner arc heās had his own āfeelings-realizationsā moment, and he hates undertaker so much now because undertaker forced him into admitting and exposing the lengths seb would go to for ciel
The āhand reaching outā motif, food metaphor motifs, and this ābellyā motif (that doesnāt often make over to English, bc theyāre such common words there) are things I pay attention toā¦. Thereās always been something odd about that shot from chapter 14 where sebastian is lamenting how he didnāt get to give ciel the birthday cake he made for him, and heās just standing in the dark alone as if he only wishes he could understand what appeals to them (or just ciel)
that cake is what ends up giving his curry the ādepthā that Agniās curry had, according to soma. This chapter title page says āA beautiful joint struggleā!!ā With joint-struggle reading as ācombinationā, in reference to the previous chapter.
Speaking of the luxury liner arc, he was given a lot of lizzy parallels that Iāve been meaning to post about. But Iām on like 3 Benadryl rn so I already know I canāt make a more coherent effortpost than this atm lol
I got one more little tiny irrelevant not-literal-eating-factoid and one more about the belly thing that Iāll put here without elaborating
The wolf doesnāt even eat the goat in the book she was referencing
and I think the belly thing reminds me of how Sebastian suggested he could ākeep ciel in his body and away from the outside airā during the formation of the terms of their contract, that was so bizarre to me because it just sounds like eating him? lol. But during Sebastianās cinematic record, the first cover was this, and it makes me think that whatever Yana was thinking when she wrote that line, must have been on her mind already for a while. Idk what the official English release said, but itās something like āIf you wish, I will envelop you...
With claws still baredā¦ā either envelope or embrace is accurate.
Maybe thatās what he imagines himself doing whenever he throws his jacket over ciel
