I really don't like the nomenclature of "Main" Tank vs. "Off" Tank, outside of designating roles for specific players in specific content. Telling us that the Warrior and Bastion are "Main" Tanks and the Paladin, Dark Knight, and Gunbreaker are "Off" Tanks makes it sound like the latter three are lesser, only suitable as understudies, and I don't think that's the intent at all.
I'm waiting to see more about what their specific gameplay differences are going to be, but I suspect they'll have more or less comparable base mitigation, the Main Tanks will have a few more Personal Survival tricks and the timing-focused counters that were described, while the Off Tanks will have a few more Group Survival tricks and powers that can be used on allies. So until new information emerges to contradict this, I'm mentally classifying them as "Counter Tanks" and "Guard Tanks".
In a similar way I really dislike the designation "Pure" Healer, since it suggests that the Shield Healer has diluted or degraded their function. But White Mage is so vanilla that it's hard to pick out a single defining characteristic that sets it and Astrologian apart from the other two. All four healers do what White Mage does, White Mage just does the most of it. Meanwhile Astrologian feels more akin to Sage and Scholar to me because it's still applying a ton of buffs in addition to filling the health bar, those buffs just happen to do things other than grant temporary HP.
In any case, I'll probably be adding the Bastion to my main character's roster of jobs important enough that he'll get their Relic Weapons. I've added one job per expansion and the lineup right now is Dragoon (the one week of 1.0 that I played), Monk (ARR), Machinist (HW), Red Mage (SB), Gunbreaker (ShB), Sage (EW), Viper (DT), and probably Bastion (EC). Dragoon is the hold-over from my FF11 days (Black Mage, my other main job, is represented on my most-played Alt), while the themes of the rest can be grouped into Guns (MCH, GNB, SGE, BAS), Ala Mhigo (MNK, RDM), and Swashbuckling Pirate type behavior (RDM, GNB, VPR).
Which means I have all seven armor types represented and now both types of Tanks. A part of me feels temptation to also add Astrologian to his lineup so I'll also have both types of Healers but I'm holding off more because I don't want to go back and get five expansions worth of relic weapons, and also out of the hope that another "Pure" healer will get added that better fits my character's vibe... although the cards are adjacent to the sort of Gambler theme that fits my rowdy old buccaneer of a WoL fairly well. It's a tough call.
Its more that they define MT as "more self-mit and less utility" to party and OT as more utility to party...
Then put PLD as MT? Even tought paladin got 2 raidwide mit in comparison to other that only got 1, 2 dedicated solo-ally protection with cover and the shield AND can heal other too

I could also go afrer GNB for this too, who is a bit... short in mit and heal being so damge focused but anyway.

Putting my ffxiv character Zhai through the blender today. :)
Context: she goes from being pretty much the most powerful summoner in the land to being aetherically disabled after Stormblood, having taken some grievous wounds and resorted to some pretty forbidden magics to fight Shinryu. It takes years for her to regain connection to her magic.
As someone who put most of her self-worth on her skill, this does not feel great for her :) She spends much of her recovery time isolating and angry/depressed.

Going to bash my head against the wall. To get the next critical mission to get new rank in the city company you need to run squadron mission. 5 different.
But! They are too fucking stupid to step out of bad aoe, keep standing in everything from pool of lava, to ice, to unstable aether AND can't move faster than walk AND can't aoe.
