I think one thing that scares me as the election slowly creeps up on us is that no matter what we can't really do shit as far as getting a competent president into office (not that we ever have but still). Biden is bombing the east and yet he's got the fact that he's raising minimum wage behind him even when he's not necessarily the one responsible for that but whatever. Meanwhile the only other real option is Trump and let's be honest, first thing he'll do when he gets into office is just undo the very few good things Biden has done over the past two years and odds are that he'll keep bombing the east anyways. Either way we are going to have a shit president as usual and that fucking sucks not just for us but for Palestine too. We need action now and yet our oh so glorious leaders are too busy being petty to each other to act. I have no intention to vote but still fuck this place.

Another less important but still important thing about the punk scene I’m seeing a lot of lately is people thinking you don’t gotta be clean when you go to a show. I get it, soap is expensive and fuck the companies behind them and etc but I promise everyone there will be grateful if you dumpster dive for soap every now and then

As a disabled person I fucking HATE the take "oh but some people HAVE to buy from big alternative brands because they can't DIY because they're disabled" cuz well over 9/10ths of the time it's being said by an able bodied person.

At the end of the day even if somebody is genuinely unable to do it themselves, there are workarounds. When my coordination/ability to use my fine motor skills and joint pain get bad I get a friend or a family member to help me out and so do a LOT of the rest of us. For those of us who can't do that for whatever reason we can/often will commission other people to do it for us.

Not to mention the fact that you can in fact "look the part" with very little to no DIY because it isn't just about what the clothing looks like, it's also about how it's styled, what makeup you may or may not do, your hair etc.

Stop trying to use us as disabled people as a scapegoat for your own laziness and the fact you enjoy bumming off of big brands because the way you look is as close to actually being a part of the subculture as you'll ever get. Just admit you buy from these brands because you to at least some extent do not care about the history behind subcultures such as punk and goth and move on.

Imo a person who wears the most bogstandard plain t-shirt and jeans combo is still more a part of punk/goth/whatever other subculture it may be than those of you who throw all of your money at massive, environment destroying, borderline slave labour using brands, because it also isn't just about "looking the part", it's about the music, politics and actually partaking within the community.

Also idc if this comes across as rude I'm sleep deprived and absolutely fucking sick of able bodied people using us as an excuse for everything.

It is utterly insane, and I mean INSANE, to see people say they’re “tired of seeing stuff about Palestine” especially in punk spaces. The EXACT thing punks are against, as a whole, is happening to people in Palestine and you have the audacity to say you’re “tired of seeing it”? Have you considered doing something about it then? Yknow, like punks are supposed to do? Or are you here for the fashion?

I hate to be a boomer apologist but sometimes they have a point, nowadays people are terrified to grab a brick, let alone throw it. And yeah I get it, the stakes are high, people are scared of their government, I don’t blame you for that fear. But action despite consequences in the name of good is key to being punk.
