‘You’re too sweet,” she giggles brightly at him as he leaned in for another kiss which she contently returned. Sitting down, she picks up her fork to start eating as well. She had always had a decent appetite despite her thin form, but ever since the baby came into their lives her stomach seemed to be like a black hole. It seemed like she was always hungry. Plenty of times now she’d make Kit go downstairs and get her ice cream or whatever she and the baby were craving. She wondered whether that was a hint on what gender they were. Maybe it was a girl that they were going to have.
Hearing that he was off tomorrow, she nearly chocks on her bite of food from the excitement. “Oh, that’s great news! I was thinking of taking the bus and checking out some baby clothes…” She pauses, knowing that it would present some potential problems for them being that they were an interracial couple. With Kit by her side, she didn’t think it’d be all that scary. After all, with him, she felt like anything was possible.
Kit didn’t mind getting Alma ice cream, or whatever else she wanted when she asked him to, because he loved her. And he was just excited for their child to come into the word at this point. The start of a family was always exciting, and Kit would be the best father he could be. And he knew Alma would be a great mother. She was so kind and caring, it seemed impossible for her not to be. And it people judged them, who cares? As long as they were happy, it was enough.
“That sounds like a great idea,” Kit agreed. They would probably be needing clothes soon anyways, since Alma was so far along in her pregnancy now. Though the gender being uncertain would make them have to choose wisely, something that didn’t lean too much to one or the other; white or gray or yellow, or something, whatever caught their eye. After he had eaten a bit, another thing popped into his mind. “How much longer? I just can’t wait to see our baby, start a real family... You been feeling okay lately, anyways? I swear you’ve eaten gallons of ice cream by now,” Kit commented with a laugh.
